1101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with my GPUs when ASIC arrives? on: September 09, 2012, 03:11:46 PM
BFL originally stated shipping in October.  They are taking on more staff to speed up the process and now hope to start shipping in November?!  It appears that getting them before Xmas may be tricky!

Orininal statements said October shipping.  I am now hearing nOvember.  There is very little information comming from BFL so it may well be later than this but the block reward halving is known and ASIC will hit at some time.  Now is not the time to be buying GPU's dedicated to mining!

Agreed.  It takes a bit of getting used to.  I have closed QT and wondered why Armory stopped behaving properly!

Once you get the hang of it its great.  Have a selection of online and offline wallets.  Use offline verification of transactions etc!  Very useful.  Also paper back ups really put your mind at rest.

If you are new use the exchanges.  They will allow you to buy what you want.  No one will trust you until you have been around for a while (and even then they wont unless they want to lose money)!  Trust no one and you will be fine.

I cant believe they are still operating after one of their founders ran off with more than a couple of coins!  Fickle bunch bitcoiners I suppose!

Armory is good.  Offers offline wallet functionality and paper back ups!

Whilst I agree that this is all true, the talk in this thread about replacing the current system is slightly nieve.  The entire economic system is build on credit.  You wont replace that because a new form of Gold has been discovered (which is basically what BTC is).  There will be a lot of pain before the curent system can evolve into something fit for purpose, and unless you are paid in BTC, spend olnly BTC and have all investments n BTC, you should be careful what you wish for.

I recently joined Pyramining.  A mining operation which takes bitcoin investment and buying mining equipment, returning the investment along with a bonus- generated by mining.  It seems to be a very well set up outfit with FPGA hardware and investigatons into ASIC.

Things are going well!  Contact me if you have questions.

I would imagine it will be difficult to prosecute as BTC is a virtual item, which is not recognised as currency in most juristictions.

Couple that with the fact the fact that Pirate is probably not his real name etc etc and proving that he is the one who people sent all their coins to will be difficult.  Added to which, most of the investment was done via pass throughts or secondary agents etc.

You can see that it is not simple to investigate or prove and thats if any law enforcement is actually interested.
1117  Economy / Economics / Re: EU/US: Need for explenation on: September 08, 2012, 11:30:34 AM
In todays world, using fractional banking, countries can just continue to print as much cash as they want.  The issue is that the cash is worth less than it used to be!   This is how China is buying up US debt and keeping its currency artificially low, making its exports competitive.  If the Yuan was allowed to appreciate as it should, chinese imports would not look so appealing.

So how much are the preorders for Jalepenos going for?
1119  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL ASIC DESIGN? on: September 08, 2012, 11:24:04 AM
That is actually a good idea.  However, as they are suppoosed to start shipping in 3 weeks, I doubt that it could be incorporated into the design!

I assume that they are still on track to stary shipping in Oct?  I havent heard any different.

Welcome back.

I would expect people to dip in and out of bitcoin during the early stages until it is adopted more widely.
