You should probably put the 620 watt figure on your website so that people are clear about the amount of power the whole unit consumes.
I completely agree, the website currently indicates the total system wattage is 450w.

When quoting BFL's numbers, no one includes the PC it's hooked up to either.
A Raspberry Pi definitely doesn't pull 200w though and you can hook the BFL stuff up to any low power board with USB connectivity...

It's even worse that there was no warning from Yifu about it.
Pretty dishonest. I don't believe for a second they didn't measure/know this. Of course http://launch.avalon-asics.com still says:

Power Consumption: 450w
Hmm.
144  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:32:50 AM
    620 Watts, 5.6 Amps
That is not 400W :\ I think I might be reconsidering my purchases from batch 2 now.

Thanks for taking the time to write the review and take the readings Jeff Smiley

Do we have any idea what (International) shipping costs will be?
146  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 01, 2013, 09:31:50 PM
Quite terrible timing for europeans
Eh? I'm in the UK and 9am EST = 2pm GMT.

Well they're not charging in BTC, they're charging in US dollars? BTC is just the method of payment?

We are aware this will introduce Import issues for certain EU and SA countries. Avalon ASIC hope re-sellers will take this opportunity to grow and take care of this problem.
I'm in the UK so this possibly covers me. Does anyone know what "issues" they're referring to other than the obvious customs (VAT) charges?

As previously noted, it makes NO sense to buy individual hashing modules at the moment. You would have thought they'd be marketed as cheaper than just a 1/3 of the price of a full unit.

let me add an IMAP header to your message.

x-troll-detected: yes
Pretty sure you mean a MIME / RFC 2047 header.

Also: Not trolling, I think they're perfectly reasonable questions?

It might depend on shipping, but why would you buy one unit and three upgrades for $3000 when you could just buy two units for $3000? If you really want to space, gut one unit, mount the three boards in the other, and sell the PSU and other stuff.

A pretty good point, although I guess you'd have to pay more shipping?
152  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 01, 2013, 04:54:24 PM
Nice. For $3,000 (not including shipping) you can have a 900 watt 'desktop' sized box running at 132GH/s. I suppose that's decent if you're thinking of short term gains.

This is what I'm considering. But I do have some concerns:
1. Will the power supply be overloaded with 6 hashing units? (Can it supply ~ 900w?)
2. I assume things are going to get mighty toasty in the box with 6 hashing units in there. Considering the review of the first unit and its problems with overheating, is this going to be even more unstable?

Pretty exciting.

I'll take two Smiley

Before you jump in, I'd recommend against purchasing ASICs until at least one of the vendors has actually shown any proof of a working product. Consult the rest of the forum and you'll see the controversy surrounding ASICs at the moment.

Incidentally, BitInstant now accepts bank transfers from the UK.

Choose the last item in the list, "Online bank transfer"

Are you sure they're not going to do an expensive conversion to USD?

I would've thought the polite thing to do was donate 0.5BTC as an actual donation for returning your 10BTC! I know that's what I would do if I had been so lucky!
This!
