283  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: [Poll] - Will ASICs Hit Before Block Reward Halving / Drop? on: November 03, 2012, 06:42:55 AM
I've said it before in another thread, but I'll say it again; I predict ASIC manufacturers will do what is best for the market they serve, which would be releasing batch-1 shortly after the block reward halving. Less volatility in BTC supply this way. Predicting early early December release.
284  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Finally photos of real BFL Single SC and Jalapeno ASICs on: November 03, 2012, 06:33:46 AM
I think it's in everyone's interest that no ASIC hits the market before the block reward halving. Less volatility in the supply of BTC that way. Predicting an early December release from both BFL and Tom(caplepair).

286  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do people assign value to Bitcoins? on: November 02, 2012, 12:26:29 PM
For the same reason cigarettes have value in prison even to non smokers.
A carton of newports is worth 2 bald asian guys these days. That's value.
287  Economy / Services / Re: Will seed torrents for BTC on: November 02, 2012, 12:16:52 PM
you don't have a huge market with this crowd, most people using this forum are 'security-concious' and upload their wares through a vps or some such
288  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is a computer with 1.7 GB graphics card enough for bitcoin mining? on: November 02, 2012, 12:06:45 PM
mining with a laptop is generally not a good idea no matter what gpu it has, due to heat generation.
nevertheless, to determine your gpu under windows 7, right-click anywhere on your desktop, left-click 'screen resolution', left-click 'advanced settings', and left-click the adapter tab. if your machine has an ati/amd radeon hd 5xxx+ gpu, you might consider mining. if you do end up mining, be sure to cool the laptop with an external standing fan or some such, as your laptop will get very very hot.
289  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Simplest way to stash bitcoin? on: October 30, 2012, 03:53:12 AM
Sorry... I know this has been answered, but I'm tired of searching all this technical stuff.  I simply want to buy $200 worth of bitcoin and sock it away on a disc for a few years.  I don't want it to be on my hard drive in case I get hacked or my comp crashes.

I am very non technical, what is the easiest way to do this? Thank you, Ann.

Paper wallet in your bra. We need more women here, seriously.. I have smacked myself for being sexist.
Anywho, once you have a wallet.dat file with the desired amount of coins on it, copy that wallet.dat file to a few different thumb drives, stash them in various places, and delete the wallet.dat that's stored on your hard drive. This is often referred to as 'cold storage'... keeping data offline.
290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hurricane on East Coast - possible Bitcoin service disruptions on: October 30, 2012, 03:48:59 AM
I'm about 15-20 minutes southeast of Washington DC, we've had some crazy wind but rain isn't anything more than a constant drizzle more or less. Lost power once for about 2 minutes a few hours ago. I feel like I've been cheated out of an apocalyptic storm... I like it when people forget about money and politics and just huddle together for mutual survival Sad

My only advice.. stay away from Burger King's "zesty" sauce.. formerly known as onion ring sauce... oh dear gods...
the gas from it smells like, well, a garbage truck giving itself an enema in your nose while you choke on your own vomit.
293  Other / Off-topic / Re: Hurricane Sandy on: October 28, 2012, 03:43:14 AM
is it bad that my primary concern will be my mining rigs won't have power to continue mining due to electrical outages?  Huh Cry

295  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some fun and not so fun times at the MSI forum on: October 28, 2012, 02:37:58 AM
One hears all this bla bla about how the internet is so "democratic".  It is bullshit.  It is lord of the flies out here.

Thats the 3rd time that has happened to me in 2.5 years. Amd game > Sapphire > Msi forums... The Sapphire mod was a real nut.

"flobelix" is an idiotic feeble minded twat. Underclocking video memory most certainly does lower overall card temperatures. You should seek out the global moderator of that forum, and have his moderator status revoked for not knowing what the fuck he's talking about.

Hi kwoody.

Thanks for the response and plz mind your language the next time. Lets keep this civil. :p

pEACe

There is nothing civil about discrediting misinformation. History has shown force and hostility are the only effective methods. Enjoy living under your rock, though.

298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Increase the availability of BTC on: October 27, 2012, 10:19:01 AM
People use USD/EURO/JPY etc... because they get them as their salary, then it is very natual to use it

But if you need to spend BTC, you must first open an account in mtgox and transfer money, or setup a minning rig, that is way too complex

If someone can use BTC to pay out various online contest, more people will get access to it
I'm on it bro. Captain Brocoin to the rescue.

Bitcoin Forum > Marketplace > Gambling -  would appear to be the best spot to post this sort of thing. Nice game.
