1361  Economy / Economics / Re: Starbucks, Nordstrom And Whole Foods Now Accept Bitcoin on: May 18, 2019, 09:33:26 PM
Don't say this is good news if we don't know the truth, first make sure whether this news is really real or just bullshit. of course if that really happens surely the price of the coin will soar because this is good news and now coin coins are only up a few percent.
Acceptance happens through a legacy POS terminal, so while you can pay with Bitcoin there, they don't actually know you do so. The only thing you do is scan the QR they show you to finalize the transaction.

Overall, it doesn't really matter how merchants accept it as long as we can exchange our coins for their goods, because that's how money should work. We can't expect merchants to directly accept Bitcoin themselves.

I'm not sure if this will have an effect on the price. The number of people actually spending their coins is still negligible, so don't expect anything. All eyes are now pointed at the block halving, not merchant adoption.
1362  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cryptopia goes bankcrupt on: May 18, 2019, 08:27:13 PM
This is a shame, Cryptopia literally gone out with our money simply reason of hacking. They had the capability to come back, however the truth is I lost my Bitcore token around ~$60 and this is an exit scam.
It hurts initially, but the sooner more of these incompetent garbage exchanges fail, the healthier this space becomes. It's not for nothing that all these exchanges go down, one faster than the other.

I'm not sure if they would be successful relaunching, and I'm happy that they no longer try it, because one way or another, their users would very likely end up losing money again.

From now, will try not to leave my cryptos on the exchange anymore.
Coinomi wallet allows you to store a wide variety of shitcoins where you control the private keys, so download it if you haven't already. Let your $60 loss be a lesson that helps you improve and not lose again in the future. Smiley
1363  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-17] Bitstamp Starts Investigation After Large BTC Sell Leads to $250m on: May 18, 2019, 07:15:05 PM
The way the sell order got executed hints at a leveraged side trade, but as long as there is no evidence to back this up, we can't be sure that it was actually what people consider manipulation.

I think this "investigation" is meant to signal to regulators that they take manipulation serious so that it adds to their legitimacy. Don't think whales will stay there if Bitstamp does this after every large buy or sell order.

Overall, there are no rules in place as to what you can and can't do. Bitstamp should stop trying to look like Coinbase and appreciate that whales generate the main part of their fee income.
1364  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-18] Bitcoin’s Rally May Not Be Finished Just Yet on: May 18, 2019, 06:38:16 PM
As long as we stay above $7k I'm bullish for the short term, if we go back to $6k, it means the bull run is going to take longer than we expect.
Not necessarily. Most of the crucial wider time frame moving averages still hover below the $5000 mark, so the price technically can still bounce off these averages to settle a higher low and it will still be bullish.

Don't forget that most people who bought in this year are all in the profits, which means that we can't discard sharp corrections until the demand is so strong that their dumps won't even dent the price.

My end of the year target was to break the $6000 mark and that's exactly what I got. I expected more resistance between $6000-$6400 but the demand apparently was strong enough to break through the sales.
1365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction fee has gone up by 10x during the last two weeks on: May 17, 2019, 09:53:39 PM
I agree that LN can and should be used for micro transactions but inevitably, fees might just continue going up.
It's quite embarrassing seeing how Bitcoin yet again has like 70k unconfirmed transactions waiting to be confirmed. This, while the fees didn't rocket up like 2017, is unacceptable in my opinion.

Even if you want LN to onboard as many users as possible, we still need larger base blocks because SegWit alone isn't enough, and I'm afraid that we won't ever go over that 1MB mark because it requires a hard fork.

Bitcoin's conservative development nature isn't really working in its advantages here.
1366  Economy / Speculation / Re: Taking profits but don't be afraid! on: May 17, 2019, 08:59:37 PM
I am expecting the price to recover soon since this looks like a temporary correction.
It might, it might not. I have seen people on Reddit feel disappointed that they didn't buy in the $7000 range before it went to $8000 and now that the price has corrected back to $7000 again, they are gone.

People only regret not having bought after the price has gone up. If people believed it was a temporary correction they would have started buying, but they don't seem to do so.

News outlets blame a faulty trade to have resulted in the selloff that we have seen, but I don't believe any of that at all. It was a legit market sale, very likely side-leveraged on BitMEX for extra profits.
1367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Upcoming 60 minutes segment on the Pizza guy on: May 17, 2019, 08:32:46 PM
The thing though is, there's a fine line between great marketing, and straight-off bullcrap clickbait(which this one is).
The line is money. They go with whatever has proven to be the most effective way to get as many people to click and read their articles as possible. Not sure why people are still so triggered by this.

Mainstream media is news for the masses, and the mass doesn't know what's click-bait or not. $800 million pizza is a money making headline, and it to some degree it actually holds some truth as well.
1368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ebay accepts crypto? on: May 17, 2019, 08:10:44 PM
Some of the merchants in Alibaba had been accepting crypto for years now.
Are you sure about that? I looked up Alibaba's payment methods and Bitcoin isn't listed as option, and as far as I know individual merchants don't have the ability to use other payment options.

There have been new crypto based marketplaces and these markets would surely put some pressure on Ebay to try something new.
I have seen none that actually pressure eBay in whatever form or shape. OpenBazaar looks like an eBay killer on paper, but its use hasn't been picking up, which has been like this for years now.

If something doesn't take off in its first few years of existence, chances are that it never might, especially with how there is zero marketing to attract new users. No marketing means no users, it's that simple.
1369  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-5-16] World Bank, CommBank Team Up for ‘World First’ Blockchain Bond Trans on: May 17, 2019, 04:37:07 PM
I invite anyone to come up with 1 reason, just 1, why the legacy financial system will be using blockchain tech
You are absolutely right that blockchain tech doesn't provide the legacy system an advantage over a centralized database system that's better in almost every possible way.

If financial institutions want, they without the blockchain can set up a network enabling instant transactions from bank A to bank B, etc. They just don't want it because they thrive on the fees each hop generates for them.

Overall, regardless of whatever business it concerns, they all just use the blockchain hype momentum to raise capital and enjoy the free press that comes with it. Can't blame them for using the momentum in their advantage.
1370  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-17] Stablecoins beat bitcoin according to ECB presidential hopeful on: May 17, 2019, 03:23:01 PM
I think that stablecoins in terms of being a convenient means of exchange aren't better than just Bitcoin in that field, but better than every single crypto currency in existence today.

The average person doesn't care at all about it being centralized, they just want something to offer more convenience over what they currently have, and that's what stablecoins offer right now.

As long as the stablecoins can move freely from one address to the other, it can and very likely will take off big time. I'll use it just like how I use fiat. I don't see crypto being a good option today.
1371  Economy / Economics / Re: Toronto Man Scammed Over $2,000 by McDonald’s Mobile App on: May 16, 2019, 05:07:29 PM
Since most of the time banks reimburse the loss, so they don't care much
Not sure how the situation is in your country, but I have noticed how banks here started to be less willing to compensate people for their own stupidity, which if you take off your anti bank cap, is understandable.

If you as bank continue to compensate people in every possible way, they won't care about internet security anymore because they automatically assume that the bank will just cough up the money as if nothing happened.

That's one of the reasons I like Bitcoin so much, you are pretty much forced to take internet security seriously because if you don't, you could lose your money and there is no one you can complain to.
1372  Economy / Economics / Re: Why can't we have a good cryptocurrency exchange? on: May 16, 2019, 04:22:30 PM
I was hopeful even last year but now with 2019 whiling away and no DEX able to displace the big guns, I guess it'll be a long wait.
It won't even happen in the next couple of years. Development follows money, and the money is where centralized exchanges are. People should forget about dexes and just move on.

I am happy using local exchanging services instead of the main spot exchanges. I do pay a slight premium (1% on average) over spot, but that's for the convenience they offer, and it's of course a profit oriented business.

If I had to list the downsides, then it definitely would be them running out of coins, which happens when the price either pumps hard because noobs buy then, and dump hard because of smart people buying.

Support is superb. I can call them, visit them or just use their chat support function.
1373  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin on the way to $10,000 on: May 16, 2019, 12:40:10 PM
There are still some people who are afraid to invest their money, they think the price is not going to hold for that long and there is going to be a fall.
I wonder how many of these people have followed what the clowns behind the hyperwave theory came up with. Before the rally started I noticed that more and people actually paid attention to the hyperwave.

This is what happens when you follow a bunch of ignorant and greedy people pretending to be a guru or expert. In 2018 "experts" said that a bull run was due, but we went down instead.

In 2019 "experts" said that a capitulation candle to sub $1000 was possible but sub $2000 was more or less only a matter of time, but we went up instead. In other words, do the opposite and you'll likely make sweet profits.
1374  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price and Binance on: May 16, 2019, 11:29:21 AM
But it’s just an unreasonable assumption, it would be impossible for it to have any effect on bitcoin price, I think this surge is just a normal investment surge.
It's not entirely unreasonable. Newbies just aren't used to these events and consider hacks and whatnot to be bad for the market, so I don't blame them for thinking that. It shows that they are at least paying attention.

Another aspect is that the mainstream media adds to the uncertainty of people by over-exaggerating the consequences of hacks. CNBC and Bloomberg are the worst in that regard.

At the end of the day, hacks mean coins being taken off the market, at least in the near term. If there is an effect on the price to begin with, it should be positive because there are fewer coins to be sold.
1375  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-15] Microsoft Picks Bitcoin to Create a New Identity System on: May 16, 2019, 10:06:03 AM
A second layer on top of Bitcoin? Offering possibilities that go beyond the Store of value? This is one of the dreams of the Bitcoin Maximalists.
LN does that too, and then we have side-chains such as Liquid and RSK that offer a wide variety of features. Now it's waiting for actual use to pick up so we can see how they stimulate creativity and productivity.

It's great and all that we have these second layers and side-chains, but if they aren't being used they're worthless, just like how worthless altcoins are that pretend to be cheap and reliable.

I'm going to read into how this identity system actually works and now it leverages Bitcoin's blockchain and security, because none of the articles I have read have gone in-depth or gave a useful brief explanation.
1376  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-16] Bitcoin Bull Run Could Eclipse The Last Crypto Bubble on: May 16, 2019, 09:27:25 AM
I believe that the price is rising because the people realized that 1 year left for bitcoin halving and to get a lot of profit, they started to buy early
Not this early on. I'm quite sure that institutions are playing with Bitcoin right now, where the average joes will jump in later on, when there are just a few months left before the block halving takes place.

I haven't seen much of a change in hashrate with how the price has more than doubled in a matter of months, which means that miners are having a great time utilizing the lack of circulating mining hardware.
1377  Economy / Exchanges / Re: GDAX put my deposit on hold... on: May 16, 2019, 09:04:43 AM
Did not expect something like this from something as popular as Coinbase though I am still not sure if it is completely their fault. You can only play the waiting game currently since there is not much you can do apart from contacting their support staff again and again.
Coinbase is by far the most regulated and US government ass-kissing exchange in the crypto sphere, but whatever happens outside the US is a completely different story unfortunately.

People in Europe haven't really been treated well by Coinbase in the last couple of years, which is why a lot of Europeans choose to use Bitstamp and Kraken instead, so OP is better off using one of these exchanges.
1378  Economy / Exchanges / Re: WTF-BITTREX DISABLED MY ACCOUNT!!! on: May 16, 2019, 08:44:16 AM
However, I do not like the manner in which they are forcing KYC down our throats.
I can understand that, but exchanges looking to comply with regulations are paranoid because they don't want to lose their banking relations. Bittrex not that long ago enabled USD fiat trading, and they don't want to lose it.

Banks as shitty as they are have a strict set of rules that you should follow, else their bank accounts will be terminated. It's not for nothing that US traders aren't allowed to trade IEO tokens.

If decentralized exchanges were a thing I would say dump centralized exchanges, but there is no alternative that offers enough convenience and liquidity. I use a local exchanging service now, much friendlier and less demanding.
1379  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin unable to breach the $8000 milestone on: May 15, 2019, 11:42:16 PM
It's impossible for Bitcoin to go down to $4000 again
Just like how "impossible" it was according to people that Bitcoin wouldn't fall under the $6000 mark? Bitcoin has proven that nothing is impossible here--at the very best, things could be pointed at as unlikely to happen.

I prefer to see the market consolidate around lower levels after getting rid of sub $5000 buyers. I'm sure that they will dump the moment they see the price comes closer and closer to their initial buying price.

however $5000 is still possible but I don't believe Bitcoin will re-test its support at $5000 area.
You think $5000 is still possible but don't believe it will be tested? Makes sense.... Roll Eyes
1380  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbene doesn't have withdraw for QKC? on: May 15, 2019, 11:05:17 PM
Coinbene allows non-verified accounts to withdraw funds up to 2BTC per 24 hours, so that's very likely not the issue, unless you're trying to withdraw more than 2BTC worth of QKC.

I checked online to see if there are people with similar issues, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The only thing you can do is contact Coinbene to see what the reason is for not allowing you to withdraw your funds.

As an experiment, if you have other crypto funds in your account, try to initiate a small withdrawal to see if it isn't an account restriction or something. These Asian exchanges are notorious account blockers.
