1  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam alert! "asicrigs" company trying to scam people on: August 10, 2013, 12:39:12 PM
Both of these sites are obvious scams, but I ask, they have a coinbase account on the .ag site which requires a link to a US bank account, is there no way to find out who owns this account? Does coinbase protect the identity of everyone who uses their service regardless of their "business practices"?

Also the .com version of this scam has a mtgox  account..

Is bitcoin being an unofficial currency a way to steal things with no repercussions? Or can we somehow press charges of theft against coinbase or mtgox for aiding in these fraudulent activities thereby forcing them to reveal the identity of the criminals or face prosecution themselves?

I could understand if they just had a random bitcoin address that tracking these people would be difficult or imposable but having a coinbase account or a mtgox account is another story.

Who knows the law well enough to answer these questions?

-Thanks

It's a clone site  of asicrigs.com         However I would not know if the .com is or is not a scam. But fishy crap for sure

Ya.. on the .com site they have a mtgox button and pictures of BFL devices.. To me they both look like scams.

Be wary of either site imo. And for sure don't trust the .ag site..

I did not order anything from these guys. Lucky me! Smiley

I just noticed them yesterday and knew right away they looked like trouble.

I was not making any "accusations" I was pointing them out to the community for further scrutiny.

I sent them an e-mail asking if they had any pictures(since they say they "have them in stock") or working devices I could see.

They responded telling me to just place an order and then I could come to their office (in Oregon where I live) and pick it up..

This is a super scam! 110%

Not only did it say 'BFL' on the original add, but they also say they "use mtgox" when their bitcoin payment buttons link you to coinbase!

For sure a lie!

Please tell as many potential miner customers about this so these crooks don't get away with too many illegitimate coins!
4  Economy / Scam Accusations / Scam alert! "asicrigs" company trying to scam people on: August 09, 2013, 09:00:13 AM
Today I saw an add for a company named ASIC Rigs, out of Oregon USA. I went to their website and what I saw does not look good. Angry

http://asicrigs.ag/

It is almost a guaranteed scam! Do not trust these people!
They say they have 100gh ASICs for $2600 and are shipping within 72 hours of placing an order.

I would like help from people on this forum getting the information out about this scam so they don't get too many people's bitcoins.

Please go check the site out and let us know what you think. And spread the word so our friends don't get screwed..

-Thanks
5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is BTC-E kidding me? on: August 06, 2013, 08:47:49 AM
This anti-fraud.
This requirement interkassa!

When this is anti-fraud, why you are releasing the money to me?
And do not wait 24 hours?

Don't you unterstand, that I have already buy BTC for the USD I deposit?
What is, when the seller will now withdraw the USD from me and
Interkassa will not release the money? Thats the biggest shit I ever heard ...

If you do not like the requirements, do not use btc-e!

That is some impressive customer service.  I think it is obvious that NOBODY should be using btc-e!

Good idea! Boycott Btc-e!

bitstamp is better anyway. and cryptsy has more options. coinbase is my personal favorite for buying bitcoin, they now have instant transactions with verification.

I don't get it why Ripples get so much publicity.
OK, it's probably a scam, but what makes it so interesting that people are interested in it more than any other altcoin ?

Advertising money...

Spend a little(several million in this case) make a lot(or so they hope) Don't buy the lie!

Scam artists have no place in our community and must be punished immediately!  Angry

The management of these forums feels differently. They are whores for the advertising revenue.

So your saying "Its OK to be a con-man as long as you pay us our cut"? Doesn't that make the management of these forums accomplices to the con? Are you saying these forums are themselves a scam?

The ONLY way ANY of you who ordered ANYTHING from these con-men is getting a 'ROI' is through a class action lawsuit.. Unfortunately they probably worded their contract in such a way that as long as they 'eventually' shipped you something(in 2 or 3 years) they would not be responsible..

BUT! I think the contract should be gone through with a fine tooth comb by a good lawyer and a lawsuit should be initiated at ONCE!

Hi,

What do you think of the prospects of Ripple? Do you think it would replace Bitcoin in any shape or form? Sooner than later?

Thanks

I think it's a joke personally.

I concur with the above theory. I would like to add that its not a very funny joke.:|

I think as do many others that ripple is a scam. Ripple is whats known as an 'instamine' meaning all the 'coins' have been premined and 20 BILLION of them kept by the developers. There are a total of 100 billion 'ripples' in existence.

Its an attempt to corner the digital currency market, ruin all other crypto currencies, and become the next federal reserve bank.

Avoid ripple (XRP) like you would avoid a keystroke logger, or the swine flu.. Again not funny at all :|
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you guys think that UNOCS is a scam? on: August 02, 2013, 02:40:49 PM
Not a scam per say.. But more like big headed wishful thinking.

Maybe it will work. Maybe not. It looks like someone has spent a lot of time and effort on it that's for sure.

Even if it does work I can't say that I really like the idea all that much. To 'central bankish' for my tastes..

I want a currency that is more anonymous and people powdered. not managed by some "community" of developers.

No matter what happens I will continue pushing other Alt-coins..
13  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: August 01, 2013, 01:44:32 PM
My thoughts on the whole BFL thing are:

They got all the money from the pre-orders, used it to buy a massive load of ASIC chips, got all the chips and other necessary equipment and started hashing with them as soon as they arrived, made 4 or 5 times the amount the chips and other equipment cost, then started slowly building the miners and even slower-ly started shipping SOME of the out so folks would not totally freak out. In the end I think you will all get your miners, LONG after they have become unprofitable to run but AFTER BFL has made a serious killing on them.

Maybe this could turn into a massive class action suit against them if someone could prove they were using the hardware before shipping it. Maybe each person in the class could reap the amount of BTC they COULD have mined if BFL would have shipped on time + some for psychological suffering. That ought to get them off their yachts in the Caribbean..

I'm sure someone has already said this but anyway here I am saying it again.

Address: 10770 El Monte, Leawood, KS 66211 United States of America

Voicemail: 1-800-809-MINE (6463)
Fax: 1-800-809-MINE (6463)
Skype: butterflylabs

If you google map them with the above address you can see their office(or what they claim is their office) I was able to get a good 'street view' from the interstate that goes right by them.

They have what looks like solar panels for window shades..

The phone, fax, and skype numbers are of little help.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is a profitable rig to mine with? on: August 01, 2013, 09:38:27 AM
You can also try mining primecoin (XPM) with CPUs. dedicate 20-50 cores to it and sit on the coins as they should be worth something when bitcoin and the 50-60 other alt-coins loose some of the wind in their sails. XMP is the only coin that is still easier to mine with CPUs.

Amazon ec2 cloud may also be a good place to start some XPM mining.

Search this forum for XPM mining and learn more.. good luck..
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what does Mt.gox stand for?? on: August 01, 2013, 09:31:41 AM
mtgox=right place right time. I think the founder "magicaltux" should be called "luckytux".

I don't see much of a future for this exchange. Sure they are big but defiantly not the most innovative. And they seem to be loosing ground quick. There are many other exchanges that are poised to take over and fast!

Lets hope for 'tux's sake that he gets out without TOO much debt   Embarrassed

If I had coins or money on gox(and I don't) I would certainly be taking them/it elsewhere.

here is the wiki for some of them: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Category:Exchanges

There is also btct.co a bitcoin based stock exchange that is making some big waves..

maybe gox can go back to trading Magic the gathering cards...  Smiley

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think BTC will hit $200? on: August 01, 2013, 05:41:39 AM
I think it will stay where it is more or less up and down (because of day trading and bots) from 80-120 back and forth till the big ASIC farms and individuals who ordered them go online. Then the price will go down for a while as the new mining power is dumping coins out.. When the network stabilizes(2-4 months after the first farms go online imo) the price will start to climb again. In the long term I would agree with the folks that say 200 by 8-14 months.. We may even see another panic spike to 400 or 600 after folks realize they are not mining them fast enough to pay their equipment off as soon as they had hoped.

Who really knows though. there are many new alt-coins up and coming that will also play a role in the price of bitcoin, and we don't know what governments are going to pass or not pass what laws that may also effect price..

I would am holding on for at least 9 months though.

I disagree

That's nice...

I know a lot of you bitcoin bag holders wont like the idea of the 'new kid on the block' coming around and spoiling all your fun, but.. here he comes!  Smiley

We all know there are  already hundreds of different currencies to invest/trade/use for commerce. Most of them are really poor at their intended jobs.. We need to fix that if we really care at all..

Its not all about 'me me me' getting rich and having all you want. Its also about making a better world for the next generations to come.

We have a good start, now lets step on the gas and really make a good currency!

I think it's a great Idea I'm working on something similar at the moment called Artcoin, it's a peer to peer painting currency, instead of contributing computational power each peer has to make the picture a little bit prettier. Once a user on the block chain agrees to buy the picture because it's lovely for $2, the difficulty doubles and the next artwork needs to attract a buyer at $4. There's a predetermined amount of artwork to be created (30) as the last one's got to be an absolutely blinding masterpiece that no one can top valued at $1,073,741,824

I'm also working on BC coin (bible code coin) where each peers hashing power goes towards finding revelations about the future hidden inside War and Peace every time we find something trippy an automated email gets sent to the sunday mirror in return for cash split among those who contribute hashing power.

Wonderful! You are what we need more of in this world, original thinkers. We have quite enough 'glass half empty' nay Sayers..

Make your coins! I am behind you 100% If they work, awesome! If not we learn why, and what to do/try for the next round.. Either way... AWESOME!

How do you keep the adults out of it?

If you can't keep the adults out of it, then don't the "Smaller sized or less complex addresses" mean "less secure and easier to steal from the kids"?  Wouldn't the difficulty quickly increase to match the cost of the hardware that the adults could afford to mine with?

Good questions.

My idea is to make it so these coins can never really go up in value to much. Something like a trillion total coins. This way they will never seem/be profitable enough for adults to even consider. Being easy to mine will also reduce the possible value significantly. Besides that adults will have 'bigger fish to fry' with all the other more profitable coins out there.

I am talking little kids who have piggy banks now. The 'whales' in kidcoin will have $50 worth and the 'super rich' kids may have 100!

And kids could use their coins to pay for video games and toys not "Silk Road products"..

And when they 'grow up' and need more room to store their wealth they can trade kidcoins for bitcoin(something like 50,000 kidcoins for 1 BTC) or one of the other coins that may end up beating out bitcoin in time...

Again, just tossing ideas out for people to contemplate.
