201  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 23, 2013, 06:35:04 PM
Wonder how many non-believers panic and sold when we dipped down to $17.10 or so Tongue

I use the term "non-believers" in jest.
We have some real veterans *cough* trading with only one indicator so I expect a lot of depression around here.

Many ppl will discover that day trading is not so easy after all, and just by sitting on coins you can have better profits. Smiley

exactly.

i advanced a thesis well over a year and a half ago that most of the early adopter day traders around here will have gotten shaken out of the biggest moves to come.  this has come true.  look at all the frequent posters of even a month ago that have gone missing.  and all the legions before them.

Yeah. In my opion there's not many early adopters with coins left. Maybe even no one. They either sold or gambled and lost.

yes.  the temptation is so great to sell after you've seen your coins go from $0.05 to $5.40.  but that's how bull markets are; a new group of adopters comes along to pay off the previous adopters while they in turn wait for the next wave up.  it's a fascinating dynamic exemplified well by a stock like AAPL:

Except Tim Cook sucks. Cheesy

Amount of fiat on gox doesn't stop rising.

Source for this data?

Also, we have people trying to call the top of this rally all the way up to $30. The psychology is changing.

Soon enough I'll be buying your single digit coins.  Wink

When?
When Apple goes open-source, becomes anti-government and announces iCoin.
205  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you believe in Reincarnation? on: January 23, 2013, 12:05:55 PM
Wrong question.

All there is is the fundamental reality, "god" if you want. Consciousness is probably a better word. The world is a manifestation in consciousness, which is aware of all things.

You are not "you" or the body or the mind. You are consciousness, which is aware of the body/mind/experience.

The confusion comes from the ego. What this means is that the mind of your average human has this idea inside it that "I am this body" (or something similar) and simultaneously holds the idea that this is a true thought. As a consequence, this neural network/learning machine that is the human brain, behaves AS IF IT IS A BODY. This is all a deterministic process. Obviously a brain will behave according to what it believes.

The result is a phenomenon where every action that the body takes and every thought that it has is associated with the belief that "I" am the doer of this deed or "I" am the thinker of this thought. This then reinforces the belief that "I am this body". This is the ego. It is an illusion.

Consciousness is simply aware of this illusion; it is aware of the experience of believing you are a body. In an enlightened being, it is aware of it's true self as the fundamental reality.

There is no reincarnation. Each human is really just a manifestation of the same fundamental reality. A vessel thought which god experiences itself.

You equate God with man? Heresy! Burn him! Cheesy

John 17:

"That they all may be one, as thou, Father, in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent me."

Also, I think the biblical god tried to tell the people they were god when he told Moses his name was "I AM".

Exodus 3:

God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘"I AM" has sent me to you.’”

However this has been treated as heresy and subversion for the longest time. Some Jews have gone as far as barring people from saying the verse as intended.
206  Economy / Speculation / Re: Government ban on bitcoin will crash bitcoin or the other way? on: January 23, 2013, 12:02:00 PM
Mt. Gox would eventually have to close if the US passed sanctions on Bitcoin transactions due to Japan's relationship with the US.

The price would crash at least 10% and likely much further. The price may return to its previous norm if a Russian or other offshore exchange took Mt. Gox's place.

Bitcoin will always be in use with or without an exchange.

IF the price go below 16 USD this are more likely bounce levels

I concur with this analysis.

Isreal is kind of the finance capital of the world, Its no surprise its taking off there as much as it has.

NY, London and HK. Tel Aviv is far behind.

Yeah. Where did you get that Israel capital?
Israel is "the startup nation", but that's something else entirely.
70% of the land in Israel is owned by the Rothschild banking dynasty whom founded central banking as we know it by making loans to governments. IIRC, the Rothschild family was part of the founding of the current Israeli state.

Knowing that, it makes sense to associate Israel with banking.

"After the death of James Jacob de Rothschild in 1868, Alphonse Rothschild, his eldest son, who took over the management of the family bank, was the most active in support for Eretz Israel.[30] The Rothschild family archives show that during the 1870s the family contributed nearly 500,000 francs per year on behalf of Eastern Jewry to the Alliance Israélite Universelle.[31] Baron Edmond James de Rothschild, James Jacob de Rothschild's youngest son was a patron of the first settlement in Palestine at Rishon-LeZion, and bought from Ottoman landlords parts of the land which now makes up present-day Israel. In 1924, he established the Palestine Jewish Colonization Association (PICA), which acquired more than 125,000 acres (22,36 km²) of land and set up business ventures.[32] In Tel Aviv, he has a road, Rothschild Boulevard, named after him as well as various localities throughout Israel which he assisted in founding including Metulla, Zikhron Ya'akov, Rishon Lezion, and Rosh Pina. A park in Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris, the Parc Edmond de Rothschild (Edmond de Rothschild Park) is also named after its founder.[33] The Rothschilds also played a significant part in the funding of Israel's governmental infrastructure. James A. de Rothschild financed the Knesset building as a gift to the State of Israel[34] and the Supreme Court of Israel building was donated to Israel by Dorothy de Rothschild.[35] Outside the President's Chamber is displayed the letter Mrs. Rothschild wrote to the then current Prime Minister Shimon Peres expressing her intention to donate a new building for the Supreme Court."

Yep, they weren't only part of it, they pretty much launched it out-of-pocket.

honestly how can people not be shitting their pants? I'm trembling trying to guess the top. Not to mention the lurking fear that perhaps somewhere Avalon has caved to the insane temptation that "burning in" their aiscs on the network and dumping/selling at $17.
$19 is a safe bet.

A friend linked me to this video that can induce hypnosis. It guides you through an imaginary door in a deeply relaxed state that should purportedly bring back a memory of "your most recent previous life". After the video, stories like this show up:

"Mine sucked.

Born at the turn of the century in Czechoslovakia. My father was killed during WWI. I developed a bit of a complex over it because I broke my leg as a kid, and wasn't able to go off to fight due to a permanent limp. My family grew up pretty poor due to not having my father around, and I ended up supporting them for the most part. I worked for the local (district) law enforcement, probably to satisfy my need for paramilitary service. I took my work pretty seriously and rose to relative importance rather quickly. I wasn't very social or anything, though, so I spent most of my money spoiling my nieces/nephews.

My past self kind of disappointed me, though, as I didn't help out my best friend during the Nazi occupation. He was an artist, and didn't hide his homosexuality. My men and I went to his house (along with others) with the Germans, and my men saw that I was upset when they went to his house. I knew that they would fight at that point if I asked them to, but I just went along with the Germans. I didn't have any family or anything, so I think it was just wanting to ensure that I stayed on track to be prominent that I did that. He ended up dying in a concentration camp, which helped me develop into a bitter old man.

I sort of redeemed myself when the Soviets came to power, though."

and

"This was pretty amazing. I remembered being a little inuit girl in Alaska. I think it was the 1920's I fell through some ice as a child and was sick for most of my teen years. I married an american man who was never around. I think he worked at a college. he might have died young. I died as an old woman I fell down outside somewhere and hit my head. I awoke only for a moment to find myself in a comfy but unfamiliar bed before passing on. I remember death being a pretty nice experience."

So, want to give it a try and report back? I am having a hard time getting relaxed and seeing something because I'm addicted to coffee. Sad
213  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yet another analyst :) on: January 22, 2013, 08:48:14 AM
Yes, the orderbook does not encompass the sentiment of the entire market. It does indicate some since there is a cost associated with putting funds on it. Even intentional manipulation of the data can be used as an indicator.

Again, using only a single indicator--including the orderbook--is not a safe way to trade. All data should be considered.
214  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yet another analyst :) on: January 22, 2013, 08:31:01 AM
the heavy weekly MASS INDEX just made re-entry. this usually indicates a long-term trend reversal. get your seatbelts on, kiddies! Grin

looks pretty ominous, huh?

Relying on one indicator is not a reliable way to trade. Especially in a small market such as Bitcoin. The orderbook still indicates significant demand that is only being held stagnant by Mt. Gox logistical issues: Money transfers are being delayed.

the orderbook cannot indicate demand. many orders never show up on the orderbook and many orders on the ledger are cancelled before they are executed. a decent indicator of where the market is used to be interest rates on bitcoinica; the interest rate for USD denominated loans on bitfinex is ridiculous, indicating a demand for leveraged long positions, indicating an excessive amount of open, leveraged long positions. everybody thinks we're going up, up, up so we're likely to see a long squeeze.
The orderbook can indicate demand but it can also have misleading information, which is what you are trying to say. That in itself does not prove demand cannot be indicated. Even the disingenuous information may indicate a greater truth. While it is not reliable information, it is information.

It could only do more harm than good. The federal government has no incentive to endorse an alternative currency.

Throughout history you will find people saying that we are in complete control of our existence. I do not believe they are wrong.
Such thinking gives freedom a whole new meaning--yet it is very liberating. Victimization becomes a foreign concept in such a world.

what about random bad luck (eg being in the wrong place at the wrong time)?
The esoteric school of thought I believe baron was referring to is one where we are essentially "god" or are directly of "god": We choose our lives and the terms of our existence through whatever means before our birth on this plane of existence. Thus, any transgressions against our perceived happiness or well-being have already been accepted by ourselves, random or otherwise.

Feel free to correct me, Baron, if I am misinterpreting your statement.

It looks like our top is going to be around $19 judging by a conservative view of the orderbook.

The whole thing boils down to this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musean_hypernumber

Basically it means an attempt to make the number spaces R, C, Q, O compatible.
Complex number: 1 + i2 = 0
Quaternion: 1 + i2 +j2 + k2 = 0
Octonion: 1 + i2 +j2 + k2 + l2 + m2 + n2 + o2 = 0

Problem is the thing isn't established in math at all an generally viewed as esoteric mumbo-jumbo since nobody has demonstrated that it works outside such brain-fucks as "proving god".
As usual when you research these things and follow them to their origin not much remains from the initial fascination.

You know your math very well. Thanks for all this reading material. Smiley

I haven't really, I'm not in academia either, although I aim to, some day.

There also is this guy: https://www.youtube.com/user/sweetser
He attempted to actually do the things these guys just dream about, albeit he had a recent setback in his work I still enjoy his videos.

What was the setback? Is there something demonstrably wrong about Hypernumbers?

He used hypercomplex numbers which is a different approach. He predicted that there will be no higgs particle and nothing like it but that didn't actually work out. (Unless Cern faked their results)
That wasn't the reason for the setback though, I don't understand it enough to be able to explain it to you.

You can always watch the videos and try to explain it to me if you like however Wink

Haha, will do! Great stuff. I've been contemplating a more simplistic view of this theory and I knew this had to be written somewhere. And I now see that is the case.

Thanks!
