3  Bitcoin / Project Development / Homesteading Virtual Estates on: May 04, 2013, 02:48:15 PM
Although this topic may not seem related to BTC, I feel this is NOT spam because the project will ultimately support BTC payment and is another use-case for digital assets (vs. just digital money). If it is spam, well read the information anyway and you can thank me later Smiley this is a GOOD project and one that at least indirectly both legitemizes and is legitemized by BTC

You can find more about the project here
http://www.facebook.com/darklabyrinths

a rough prototype here
http://fractwall.appspot.com/html/prototype3.html

and the current funding project here
http://www.gofundme.com/DarkLabyrinths

this project is starting at GoFundMe, will then continue on to Indiegogo and will finally be primed and ready for Kickstarter. I raised over $100 in my first hours of the project and listed in the directory.

Anyway, if you want in on the ground floor to own this virtual estate, there are several things you can do.

If you are a developer, designer, or you can do video, write press releases, help with public relations/marketing, then you can get co-founder credits and earn free property (and many kudos)...i have reserved properties specifically for this purpose

please, please help make this happen, I can guarantee this will return more to the BTC community than almost any other project, especially when one contemplates what will be done with the money raised, and how that factors into step 2, BTC virtual currency and gaming...

definitely worth a look!

4  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Beer for bitcoin on: May 04, 2013, 12:01:27 AM
you should start your own alt and call it BrewCoin or BeerCoin, would be at least as popular BBQCoin, right?

note: be sure to check out the other 'pages' in the wiki

i also have a working prototype, but have set this project aside temporarily as I have to complete another project that popped up first...i should resume work on this within the next 60 days or so...
7  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shouldnt we be funding/supporting a mesh network ? on: March 28, 2013, 01:53:46 AM
The trouble these days with the Internet is the ISPs. They are the weakest link in between us and the government.

To create a mesh around the ISPs but can still connect to the Internet is the way to go.

I believe that Bitcoin is the key to funding such a thing.

I would be fine with becoming an Internet repeater that generates Bitcoins on a pay per use type of structure.

And like many who have been looking at the pirate boxes, setting up solar powered repeaters all over town (on top of light poles, tall trees, water tower, etc.) to create a full mesh would bipass the whole need for an ISP.

If people can set up repeaters and get paid like people are getting paid to mine, we could reach the point where the mesh grid is more widely accessed than ISPs.

now this is starting to make some sense Smiley
8  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shouldnt we be funding/supporting a mesh network ? on: March 28, 2013, 01:40:48 AM
honestly, if the Internet goes dark, i don't think anyone will be willing to trade anything of true value (e.g. food, water, medical supplies, alcohol, guns, tobacco, drugs, etc) for BTC, USD, gold, silver, nothing...and i dont' care if someone has a backup power supply or not, if the Internet goes down all hell breaks loose and even if you had 30kw generator and solar cells, food stocked to the nuts, everything...what good with BTC do you then? You going to whip out your mesh android and sell some beans and grits to mr. needy cause he has nothing but bitcoins?

the truth is, even the most die-hard doomsday survivalist is going to be strapped to even exist beyond a few months without infrastructure...too late to go back now, we're all globally interconnected and interdependent.

now i'm really done posting on this thread as i am messin' with all-ya-all's zen
9  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Project for employers and freelancers on: March 28, 2013, 01:36:45 AM
i was testing some more and it seems to be working now. before, none of the clicks were working. sorry i didn't dig deeper to find out why. i'll keep an eye out and test a bit and if i see any further probs, i'll let you know. looks interesting.
10  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shouldnt we be funding/supporting a mesh network ? on: March 28, 2013, 01:23:53 AM
it really isn't worth arguing, but just one more question and then i'll leave it alone...how long you think you're power will be on if the 'Internet' fails? again, i should just shut up, but talking about proposing any network to simply act as a 'backup' for the internet just doesn't make sense in my world...but who knows what works in your world...
11  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shouldnt we be funding/supporting a mesh network ? on: March 28, 2013, 12:19:42 AM
one more thing...how's your 'mesh' going to connect a merchant in chicago to a buyer in australia?
12  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shouldnt we be funding/supporting a mesh network ? on: March 28, 2013, 12:18:34 AM
I'm not talking about 'The Web'

I'm talking about the Internet...seriously, maybe you have some secret knowledge i'm not aware of, but what are you going to overlay 'your' particular flavor of mesh onto?

what's the difference between the Internet and an Intranet? how are mesh topologies accomplished in an enterprise, using which communication protocol stacks, etc., and even remote db access, etc., all over INTERNET PROTOCOLS

whatever...yeah, i'm the idiot...bitcoin doesn't need the internet, you all have it all figured out! ha! have fun with your meshes boys.
13  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Project for employers and freelancers on: March 27, 2013, 10:05:08 PM
none of the links on this site take me anywhere but the home page (e.g. terms and conditions, sign up etc) all just take me right back to home page.
14  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shouldnt we be funding/supporting a mesh network ? on: March 27, 2013, 10:02:42 PM
don't mean to rain on your parade, but the fact is that the Internet is indeed the largest mesh network even possible and to propose a 'supporting' network is almost ludicrous, because by definition, such a network would simply become an extension of the network. in fact, there is NO WAY that bitcoin itself could operate without the Internet....again, setting up a 'second' or 'supporting' Internet is not really technically correct way to see it, because by definition this 'extension' or 'supporting' network would simply be another part of the Internet.

anyway, you can't really create an 'internet' backup, and your question demonstrates you don't really know how the Internet works, or what it means. I'm just trying to help clarify so you don't waste years on a dream that is fruitless. The Internet is just that INTER-NET, it's not just one network, but literally millions or billions of nets all tied together, and even the BitCoin network is just another extension. amazing right, when you really stop to think about it.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The end of government is rapidly approaching, due to crypto-currency on: March 21, 2013, 09:42:25 AM
there's no end to government! only the realization of the ideal, that someday we would govern ourselves, as opposed to trusting the 'experts'

16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Virtual currency, Cryptocurrency, how about "network currency"? on: March 21, 2013, 08:01:08 AM
Virtual currency makes Bitcoin sound inferior. People think digital currency are their bank accounts. Decentralized currency will confuse many people. Cryptocurrency has a "shady" connection to Joe Public. How about the term 'network currency' which brings in the point that it is maintained by the network?

social currency
17  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: ANN: Announcing code availability of the bitsofproof supernode on: March 19, 2013, 11:01:38 AM
i'm interested in implementing this on aws and building a pristine community image and good documentation or even automated security automation on setup, and also getting running in a worker role on azure...anyone interested in collaboration?

Interviewer: OK, one more thing for today. We're using Rock 5.1 to bang nails with. Have you used Rock 5.1?
Carpenter: [Turning white...] Well, I know a lot of carpenters are starting to use rocks to bang nails with since Craftsman bought a quarry, but you know, to be honest I've had more luck with my nailgun. Or a hammer, for that matter. I find I hit my fingers too much with the rock, and my other hand hurts because the rock is so big.

Interviewer: But other companies are using rocks. Are you saying rocks don't work?
Carpenter: No, I'm not saying rocks don't work, exactly, it's just that I think nail guns work better.

Interviewer: Well, our architects have all started using rocks, and they like it.
Carpenter: Well, sure they do, but I bang nails all day, and -- well, look, I need the work, so I'm definitely willing to use rocks if you want. I try to keep an open mind.

one more thing...if you're insinuating what it seems, then consider that what you call 'rock 5.1' is actually a standard that i've watched develop for the past 11 years since xmlhttprequest was first introduced! i was doing xml/xsl right in the browser with full xml based web services long before the terms ajax or rest were even a thought in someone's head! i was probably coding javascript before you knew what an array was, and i've coded on unix, linux, windows and using dozens of languages, from c++ to masm/tasm, perl, python, c#, visual basic, even 'cut my professional teeth' with ibm system/36 (not 360) with cobol, rpg, etc, and with almost every database imaginable and on sizes i'm confident you've never even seen (e.g. smallest datasets measured in tens of gigabytes) but what's happening on the web is unique and if you're thinking of the technology blend i mentioned as the latest 'rocks 5.1' then you are obviously in for a nice wake up call Smiley

NEXT DAY:

Ring...

Interviewer: Hello?
Carpenter: Hello. Remember me, I'm the carpenter you interviewed for the black walnut job. Just wanted to touch base to see if you've made a decision.

Interviewer: Actually, we have. We liked your experience overall, but we decided to go with someone who has done a lot of work with brown.
Carpenter: Really, is that it? So I lost the job because I didn't have enough brown?

Interviewer: Well, it was partly that, but partly we got the other fellow a lot cheaper.
Carpenter: Really -- how much experience does he have?

Interviewer: Well, he's not really a carpenter, he's a car salesman -- but he's sold a lot of brown cars and he's worked with walnut interiors.
Carpenter: [click]

i know you probably think you just made a brilliant observation...kudos to you!
20  Bitcoin / Project Development / web developers check this on: March 19, 2013, 09:21:21 AM
i am working on a new project that is currently in alpha. however, i anticipate releasing into beta within 1-2 weeks. i have some of the code staged to github, and have started a wiki (note: half those that read the wiki tell me it makes no sense, and half tell me it's great!)

in any case, i am currently working on implementing this platform on GAE, but am actively working to deploy a range of services across aws, azure and gae with full, open builds, everything for all three platforms.

i started this project in january, and will take me until end of year to complete across all three platforms. i have the technical skill to complete project on time, myself.

however, at least two developers have expressed a very strong desire to be involved, and the more that get involved, the quicker this thing can grow legs.

what's also great is this is especially for you if you love web 2.0, oauth, social software, and html5 development as opposed to having to download and install every freakin' alt-chain that comes along...

At the end of the year, there will be enterprise class implementations of full suite of shaman server classes

with any additional help, we'll be able to generate dozens or maybe even hundreds of apps on this platform during the year's development

current skill-sets immediately helpful:
server-side:  Translation, jinga templating (to help with translation template/i18n file mappings, etc), python, ndb, experience with oauth

client-side: jquery, standard dhtml and html5, canvas, three.js, any other skills helpful to build engaging apps (e.g. json, yui, etc)

https://shaman-labz.appspot.com/

and the wiki

https://github.com/shamaniotas/yotagem/wiki

so if you see value of mining in the browser, understand the transactional limitations of bitcoin network, don't believe in centralization (but also understand fully-mirrored primitive p2p is not the answer), comprehend the value of micro (and sub-micro) economics and transactions, then maybe you'll be interested to watch how this evolves over the next year, or even get involved!

note: i have taken a complete leave of work for the next year to dedicate my life to this project. regardless of win or lose, this ship is going to float, and all her flags will be flyin' by the end of this year. this may seem crazy, and it is crazy enough that it just might work!
