121  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] BIT.AC :: Signature and Avatar Campaign on: November 11, 2016, 11:50:40 PM
Thanks for the heads up and this has been a very enjoyable campaign that I hope I can re-join in January when you decide to start again.
Hopefully SFR10 will still be in charge,as he was very informative of any issue and very punctual with the payments.
122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Revolutionary Protocol: The Emergence of Bitcoin on: November 11, 2016, 09:35:53 PM
The origin of Bitcoin was definitely born in the anti-establishment and anti-banking sector of the community, but has since progressed to

something much bigger. Yes, the revolutionary views are still strong in a huge part of it's users, but without government support it will

end up in the hands of the revolutionary only. We need to pull all resources and people together to make this work.. not just the small

group of revolutionary people who started this.  Wink

That is a interesting statement because to me that falls in line with people that are not reflecting the values of anti establishment.
Meaning the masses are more inclined to endorse the idea because they are wanting to profit off it,rather than take the system down.
It seems to me to be counter productive to want to spread bitcoin by bending over for government, would be interested in what you are driving at if you are putting yourself in the early day thinking, well wanting government interaction to take it to the next level.
For me those two things are opposing but I am open to new ideas.
123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain Wallet - More Than 8 Millions Users - How To Protect The Wallet on: November 11, 2016, 09:31:29 PM
Yet most people would still run the bare minimum for security and most likely would not be interested in upgrading their protection in any way.
Think this is the one wallet most new users end up connecting to and then if they stick around they branch off into other wallets.
My main gripe with them is they can go down infrequently and the last few times where when I need access to the funds,so now I am more spread out to protect myself from being all in.

Still need to figure out the new wallet as I was a slow adopter due to a old computer, now I need to learn the basics all over again, like signing a message!

I do like the features and it shows that they are trying their best to secure the wallets in a more effective manner, its up to the customer after that.
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just bought Bitcoin from a train ticket machine in Switzerland for a trip abroad on: November 11, 2016, 09:06:32 PM
When this topic was first posted about atm use at the trains I was thinking you could us it on the train fares as well.
Nice to get feedback from some one that actually used the system and see the way it is setup.
Totally get stress of using it,often feel that way when I am using a new atm and it feels like everyone is watching.
Think my first attempt ended up me just walking out after a poor attempt to buy some bitcoin and returning 30 minutes later.
125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India Bans Its Largest Fiat Currency Notes on: November 11, 2016, 08:17:01 PM
Sometimes make me think that with bitcoin we are playing right into the hands of the movement to restrict our funds.
Crypto is perfect for governments if they control it and can take it away in one click or divvy up the funds between the elite.
Its funny how those attracted to bitcoin initially wanted less government and now it is starting to look like government is going at it the same for total polar opposite reasons.
There is also a trend of eliminating the lower coins and bills in some Countries to eliminate costs and weighing people down with change.
This always looked to me as a reason to over charge the customer due to not having the smaller change and rounding up.

A US federal prosecutor stated that you can't shut down bitcoin. http://motherboard.vice.com/en_ca/read/us-federal-prosecutor-you-cant-shut-down-bitcoin-kathryn-haun

I don't know how they would "divvy up the funds between the elite" with one click?

We are not talking bitcoin specifically when we are talking about crypto currency being a wet dream for government.
If a bank or government creates a crypto that is controlled by them, meaning they have written into the code a way to grab all funds or automatically charge interest, then you are one click away from that happening. It is a very clear point and issue,I do not mention bitcoin anywhere in my response.

To address the Federal prosecutor link I will just say the Elect President has gone on record about scraping laws and agreements he deems unfit. So with that same reasoning he could change the outcome and make the "you cant shut down bitcoin" a out of date statement. We have to remember that super powers wane and so does societies norms, you can not presume things are always going to be the way they currently are. To state it another way... Would you rather be prepared for that day or unprepared?
126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dubai accepts Bitcoin on: November 11, 2016, 07:59:44 PM
This story made little sense to me when it was posted, reason I held off responding to it.
But I can not shake the idea of getting caught up in some unknown laws or custom break that would have you potentially in a bad place.
Rather not risk my skin on my back over a need to use bitcoin on holidays in countries like this one.

127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Llew Claasen: Why the Rest of 2016 Will Bring Even More Growth to Bitcoin on: November 11, 2016, 07:53:48 PM
Will have to keep a eye on the price in the next four days to see if there is any sudden gains to tie to the news.
So far I was wrong on bitcoin speculation because I presumed a drop would come now till Christmas with college kids coming home needing funds for Christmas cheer.
Looks like the price jump may have kept a few more people speculating on more of a increase from now till then or I totally have overestimated the Christmas drop off.

Bitcoin seems to be on a positive track, hopefully it can stay out of trouble for 3-5 months to see some real honest gains and foundation building.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities on: November 11, 2016, 06:12:43 PM
Problem with this question is we are looking at bitcoin being used for traditionally illegal activities but bitcoin can easily be seen as a illegal activity in its self.
Recall the big music download era where pedophiles started sticking files in peoples music for defensive reasons or at least thats how I saw it without understanding another reason they would do it! Often wonder if bitcoin was traced and they went after everyone that touched that bitcoin at one point, not understanding the technology or claiming not to understand well prosecuting a wack load of folks.
A far off example of how we all become illegal in a swipe but it really could happen with all kinds of things.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Proposal: Living Free on: November 11, 2016, 05:59:49 PM
The problem being that people that are into these concepts are usually in a realm of extreme personality types, meaning they are hard to get along with due to fixed ways of seeing the world.
By grouping a bunch of people that have a lean towards not liking other people, you are due to face conflict in many areas.
Do not take this as a knock,as I consider myself to be one of those people that would be hard to get a long with as I have a few similar view points but on others I can go in totally opposite directions.
So lumping even a bunch of people on a island that have similar views would eventually go sour or stale for most of us,as we need to be challenged more than one would think.
Humans fracture into groups and eliminating a large segment means you have even smaller ways to seperate from the "others" and this presents a real problem for the mind that needs/wants to group things.
130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a revolutionary currency but a fairly inefficient payment network on: November 11, 2016, 05:51:00 PM
Off chain aspects seem to be a real issue for me and having a way to achieve this would really help speed up transactions and spread use.
The problem is hard to for me as a layman to figure out and I think it would have already been achieved if it was simple task.

Would love nothing more than to some how pre confirm my bitcoins to use in day to day transactions on even a limited scale of transactions under $20.
131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How bitcoin protects against geopolitical risk on: November 11, 2016, 05:44:13 PM
Being safe in politically charged times and being speculated on during those times are two different things. Its hard to correlate one with out thinking about the other and how it may be altering the perimeters of the discussion.
We really are not seeing any push in areas that are in turbulent times. Greece was highly speculated to be driven to bitcoin and we had a company announce it would open up quite the army of bitcoin atms. It never materialized as a factor for Greeks even with the strangle on their currency limits per day. Would be interesting to go look at the numbers for the company that proclaimed they where opening up roughly 100 atms to help drive bitcoin use.
You can pretty much look at every country bitcoin community has thought would be running to bitcoin and see a very small bump,I suspect more to speculation than people thinking this is the answer.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India Bans Its Largest Fiat Currency Notes on: November 11, 2016, 05:38:10 PM

Indians queuing to exchange their cash

Hey, what are you doing, today?
I'll spend the whole day at the bank, exchanging my cash...

Governments have such a twisted mind, they have invented the concept of black money (or dirty money). Money which is earned the usual way, by hard working people, but the government wants its share of it, just like the mafia, you know. So, it resorts to extortion, by forcing people to come out with their money, so the bad guys can get a piece of the cake.

Standing in line with all the bills in the air for some one to snatch and run off!

The crack down in India will be studied by other Countries and most likely copied to achieve more power over the currency. The USD is one of the most mattressed currencies in the world and any move to change the bills would cause a global ripple. One thing I always notice when travelling abroad is the guys with the briefcases in the local square that help the unbanked at a high percentage. Imagine those guys in India are making serious profit right now.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if BTC was Banned? on: November 11, 2016, 05:32:17 PM
I love to compare bitcoin with the poker scene as I think the two have similar trajectories.
When black friday came along and got rid of all the American players in the poker world,it hampered the scene big time.
It has never gained back its traction to 2005 times when it was mayhem and money splashing all over the online sites.
So bitcoin would most likely not be banned in every country but if America was to follow through it would limit or cripple its use.
134  Economy / Economics / Re: Places to look for economical news and trends? on: November 11, 2016, 05:28:44 PM
I have not had the habit of following the news before, and after spending some time on this forum and talking to people in real life about the economy, I find most people knows what's going on in the world, economically. I really wish to get first hand information as well and stay more updated. Any recommended source of news?

Bloomberg and Economist are good sites to get an idea about trends and economic news in general.
You can look at social media too, for real time updates.

I read both but find Bloomberg to be very slanted in their articles and not reliable for anything indepth or honest. Read it more to see what smear campaign the left are attempting to run.
Economist is great for whats going on in the world, usually I read it front to back but it does put me to sleep. Prefer to read these physically rather than websites.

Whatever sites you use make sure you are also following the opposite of that site is political viewpoint to balance out any propaganda.
135  Other / Meta / Re: Personal notes on: November 10, 2016, 09:04:47 PM
Should have guessed it might be brought up in the new forum section, thanks for the link.
Will see if i can get used to a third party note system or if I even want to bother, maybe coffee will work better.
136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Legalization of Marijuana in US can BTC help sell weeds? on: November 10, 2016, 08:45:25 PM
The  average cost of housing an inmate in the U.S. was $31,286 in 2012. So it has it's benefits, but Marijuana is also seen as the first step to

harder drugs, which is not good. The legalization of the drug, will influence Bitcoin in a good way, because people will now sell it legally

through regulated merchants and customers will want to do it anonymously and bitcoin will over them the opportunity to do that. Why

anonymously? ....because it will still have a negative stigma for a while.  Roll Eyes

It cost 114K per prisoner here in Canada! Shocked Seems like Canada should ship our prisoners to the States and we could all profit.

Do not be so quick to jump on a registry or any lists stating you smoke or use pot either. Governments are known to change their minds and then they have a nice little list of people that they can go after. I tend to look at my library card that way as well,so take me lightly.
137  Other / Meta / Personal notes on: November 10, 2016, 06:27:36 PM
Besides blatantly marking some one in trust,is there a way to note a person for future reference?

I suffer at times with not recalling if a person is coming at a topic with a set political view or location that skews their view on the topic. This is just one example but I would like to know if there is a way to note a member for future reference besides a trust comment that every one can see.

138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How serious is BTC to you? on: November 10, 2016, 06:18:54 PM
Agree with xdrpx in that the potential is what I really look at with bitcoin. Have become a little more disillusioned as I watch bitcoin morph into a more profit driven agenda. The sell off to government for profit drives me nuts when I see people wanting to regulate the hell out of it.
So if the potential to disrupt/work outside the system is taken away,I would venture to say it would be fleeting for me to stay involved with bitcoin. Would most likely move towards a new product that encompasses the freedom aspect.

So not in it for business and more social shifting.
139  Economy / Economics / Re: What a great step by Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi..!! on: November 10, 2016, 05:58:34 PM
Would suck to be out on a boat unable to get anywhere near a bank before the deadline, seems like a short window.
Will the banks except these bills up till then or will it become a issue in its self?
The demonizing of higher currency bills has little to do with the black market and more to do with citizens stashing money away and not using the banks. Think the drive towards getting everyone using a bank globally is on and I know for sure India is pushing this at full steam. Once they have us locked in prepare for negative interest rates, can just smell this coming down the pipes, also other reason the idea of crypto currency is appealing with government/bank controls built in.
140  Other / Off-topic / Re: How does the world end if bitcoin doesn't exist? on: November 10, 2016, 05:52:45 PM
Would the world change if World of Warcraft never existed?
That draws way more people and keeps a lot of lives on pause due to questing their lives away.
Bitcoin technology on the other hand is a changer, bitcoin on its own tends to be less of a impactful bomb then you would think comparing it long term.
