4  Local / Trading, analisi e speculazione / Re: Scambio di opinioni a freddo su recente crescita on: December 08, 2017, 02:49:09 AM

5  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: BITCOIN PUMP! on: December 08, 2017, 02:32:18 AM

How to recover IOTA from old seed? Is there any video guide?
Really helpful and detailed guide:

https://matthewwinstonjohnson.gitbooks.io/iota-guide-and-faq/getting-started/guide-transition.html

Hope it helps other too Smiley
unfortunately this guide, as many other ones, doesn't explain anything if the seed was too long
I'm still waiting for a damned IOTA dev reply to this thread, maybe after 1 year or 2 I will find somebody helping me to recover my IOTA lost-in-sleeping balance
You would know only if you have read the guide properly and did your due diligence. Refer to Point no. 4, they have details of issues faced and resolution for same. Point 4 Sub Item 1 should have answer to your problem.

maybe you don't know that the solution of "If your old seed was longer than 81 characters, only type in the first 81 characters to this text box" SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK..YOU CAN GENERATE THOUSANDS OF ADDRESSES AND THE BALANCE IS STILL ZERO but you are so able to speak about "properly" and "diligence"

Hi everyone, Has anyone had the same problem with the new upgrade to 2.4 The upgrade has not gone well for me so heres the problem. Followed the instructions on the blog exactly. Completed the transition and entered new seed but when i login to iota version 2.4 with new seed, it shows no balance even after generating over 250 addresses.
Any ideas what not right. i was connected using lite wallet with bitfinex server.
I also notice that the history in my new seed shows 0 addresses and 0 transactions Any help will do
I am using the new version 2.4 lite wallet and tried several nodes but after I do the transition from my old seed to new one the wallet just says transitioning and the wallet window goes black. Any help please

The transition window does not say it was sucessfull.
The new seed does not show any incoming transactions as well when i login in to the new seed.
Thanks

While i was away i had this little idea.
Wouldn't it be better that iota devs or someone with the iota skill create a site where all iota token holders can transition from old seed to new seed everytime there is an upgrade.
I suppose something like this:
User can logon onto website:

1 Enter old seed
2 Get all balances linked to old seed
3 Transition balance to new seed.
Is it possible for anyone to create something like this that is open source
too easy..they only know difficult things as tangle or building new versions to improve security
allowing simple users with a old seed to recover their previous balance looks too easy for these genius

GMK Hi,
A simple interface is drastically needed if iota is to scale to millions of people without losing their iota's. maybe a few thousand might get the wallet thing but try millions. How many millions will have the time to sort out software issues.
Take this scenario: If some people go on holiday or get ill or are too busy involved in some other life matters and come back too late only to find that they have lost their iota balance then how many millions of users are we going to have using iota.

Iota will only build a bad reputation.
i think this early stage is where we dont want lots of people losing money.
exactly, at the moment Iota is dramatically superficial and not user friendly; their support is a ghost, they never reply
I can not recover my Iota balance because they decided to "improve" security..so improved that at this moment I have lost all haha

Please Iota team if you read this message make a version with the option "allow LONG seed login" (and convert too)
removing 9 chars from a 90-chars seed doesn't solve the issue
thank you

Hi all
I already know this info: https://blog.iota.org/new-gui-transition-phase-explained-b536ed80f412
but when I try to recover, the new 2.4.0 version shows me the error "seed too long"; indeed my seed is of 90 characters...what to do? is there a way to adjust or convert a seed too long?
thanks in advance

The maximum length is 81 chars. If you take out the last 9 chars out of your 90 chars you will be fine.
Good. How many attempts? How many address do I have to list before to see my balance? 100 thousands?  Grin

are you waiting for your balance to show after the transition? NO, I am waiting for somebody who explain me how to restore/recover my balance from an old seed of 90 characters

What does it show in history? anything, I can't see anything as I can't load anything with this v.2.4.0

Errors while setting up new wallet and resolution:

"Invalid Seed" Error:
  • Type all of the letters in UPPER case.
  • If your old seed was longer than 81 characters, only type in the first 81 characters to this text box.
  • If your old seed had numbers other than "9", or any spaces, those were automatically converted to the number "9" by the old wallet - you'll need to enter those characters as "9" in the text box here.
"Seed is too short" Error:
If your old seed was shorter than 81 characters, type the full seed in AND THEN fill in the remaining characters with "9" until the 81 character threshold is reached.
"Seed is too long" Error:
If your old seed was longer than 81 characters, then use first 81 characters of the old seed.
"Invalid Hash" Error:
Click the button that says "Invalid Hash Error" and try to search again. 'Click through' the invalid hash error 5 or 10 times and it should disappear. If it does not, switch hosts by going to "Tools" > "Edit Node Configuration" > select a new host from the drop down menu. Exit and reopen the wallet to try again with the new host. Repeat this process (continue switching hosts) until the invalid hash error disappears.

ok but how many attempts to refresh the incomplete balance? 500 addresses still ZERO

If you are on Windows, go to "Tools". If you are on Mac go to "preferences".  Either way, from there go to "Options". There is an option to allow a short seed.
Done. Nothing has changed, same error message "seed too long". Option is to allow a short seed, not a long one.

damn thats a bad error. you could try deleting number 9 in your seed and see if you can get it down to 81 characters. as far as I understand IOTA uses 9 to fill up short seeds. so maybe deleting the 9 works too? it wont work i assume, but just try . maybe it works.
doesn't work, even because deleting all 9s it becomes a 83-char seed

Leggiti tutti i vari thread.

No no, nessun "predicozzo", quello lo vedi solo tu.

i think no way
these idiots stopped service (without notification) on 26th july and in this moment just one peer connected, so no sync and no chance to import their useless master seeds anywhere
