Any thoughts about a record date policy?
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What can your coin do that LTC/BTC can't? on: June 05, 2013, 03:46:06 PM

Seriously, as others have pointed out, they offer a collection of ideas for the market to test out, and for promising devs to get their bones.  Those are reason enough.  I agree with the OP that throwing money, whether fiat or BTC, into one or more of these alt coins with the hope of getting rich is a Very Bad Idea.  But that impulse, if not applied to altcoins, would simply be applied elsewhere.  It's not the fault of altcoins that some people take get-rich-quick actions that will hurt them in the end. I feel bad for them; I feel worse for their families.

But for people who are just playing around, or are serious about learning the ropes, altcoins are a great place to come and do it.  The OP seems to suggest that a lack of true innovation = failure.  I argue that Satoshi-level innovation should not be expected of anyone but Satoshi.  But even Satoshi had to learn a thing or two before s/he/they unleashed the beast that is Bitcoin.

Just a head's up that today's dividend is larger than I anticipated so I will need to wait for the real divs to clear in order to do payout.

What an awesome problem to have.  Somehow, I'll endure the wait  ;>

Shouldn't this OP be given a Scammer Tag for trying to trick us into downloading a trojan?
+1, -Like-, etc.

Oh thanks.  I have no idea how I'd have gotten that off of the official site.

Since I'm just a girl, I might have trouble updating.  If I copy my wallet.dat to your dropbox, can you fix it for me?

Thanks.  A buttload.

Hey now! There are plenty of female bitcoiners out there who know what they are doing, don't be that guy..

I can't be that guy, because I am a female bitcoiner; hopefully not an entirely clueless one.  Kudos to Foxpup for giving a much clearer warning about this scammer than I sarcastically did!

Thank you all for offering to help, I just need to wait for Burnside to handle the resolution.

Waiting with you - will do nothing with the funds until there's a resolution.  I agree that taking action right now will make final resolution more difficult.

Hi burnside.
My account is locked because I tried to login with wrong password to many times. What must I do to unlock it again?

IIRC, wait 15 minutes and try again.

My hash puts me in the top 100, barely, but I am not going anywhere.
109  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 24, 2013, 02:55:06 AM
I'm going to try to buy one of those miners off someone in Arklan's group buy. I know that there's a good chance that it'll never roi, but they're just so cute!

Back in 2011 IIRC someone was selling bitcoin patches. The cool thing about them was that you could only buy them with bitcoin - 1BTC = 1 patch.  I considered it.

However modest, the ROI on the USB sticks is better, and the sticks are cooler.  I am tempted.

Young company, new to solo mining, still freaking awesome, lesson learned.

Me too ;>  (I'm not as grey as she is yet, but maybe some day if I am lucky!)

My guess is that in addition to any ddos that may be happening, people are trying to get in a last-minute purchase before ASICminer dividends hit.  Or hammering the server trying to see how rich they are this morning.
113  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 22, 2013, 02:24:39 AM

TAT: Takes 5% of profits + does NOT let you convert into Direct shares.
I'm staying the hell away from that one.

ASICMINER-PT: no tax on divs, can convert to direct share, Burnside is more than a name (he runs the best known BTC exchange: https://btct.co/)
only issue is you need to pay 2.5BTC to buy one share nowadays... But there is more security, dividends and flexibility in the long run.

TAT: Good for dividend reinvestment. Expensive fee on the dividends compared to ASICMINER-PT to be sure, but only 1/100th the cost to get in to the security, making ASICminer available to far more people, and opening up dividend reinvestment to more people as well. Also good for the occasional arbitrage opportunities that show up between the full PT and themselves.  I currently have <100 shares there, which I think is the right number, and the best place for dividends to accumulate at this time.  More than 100 gets swapped up to the full PT when the sell/purch ratios between the two are right.
114  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Homeland Security raids mall kiosks, claims they "fund terrorists" on: May 22, 2013, 02:07:50 AM
In Northern Ireland, after the IRA declared a ceasefire, there was a similiar rash of investigations into petty drug dealing and the like.  There really is nothing like the scent of redundancy letters to inspire this kind of zeal.

^^^ This.  Some of us are old enough to remember.
115  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Homeland Security raids mall kiosks, claims they "fund terrorists" on: May 20, 2013, 09:59:33 PM
There is nothing wrong with seizing counterfeit products. Your sensationalist title skews the issue.

It's not the seizure of counterfeit goods that's the problem - it's the sowing of FUD by tying it (everything?) to terrorism.

Terrorists eat food, right?  Shut down the farms!
116  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 20, 2013, 05:16:12 PM
First solo block:

From now on the solo result of ASICMINER will have "Mined By ASICMiner" within the CoinBase.

Another disappointingly brief update.  NOT.

Bravo Friedcat!
117  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Offering PayPal for Bitcoin? You're likely to be labeled a scammer - Read why on: May 20, 2013, 03:02:16 AM
Speratom - you were wise to limit your exposure.  There are a lot of scammers hereabouts for sure, but there are also some good decent people, too. Helpful ones, even.  I recommend you lurk, a lot. Here's some very good advice: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=119896.0

It's a PITA to convert fiat to BTC, but not impossible.  Getting cash into the exchanges is also a bit spendy with the fees, especially wiring fees.  But it's less spendy than losing a lot to scammers. Take heart that you lost relatively little compared to too many others.  That said, I hope you get your money back from the bastard.

Glancing at my miner, 5477 shares accepted, 1 stale.  Unbelievable!
119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][LTC][POOL][PPLNS][STRATUM]Invasion Mining Network[200mhash] on: May 16, 2013, 04:25:42 PM
I am closer to 1%, but that is on our fairly crappy wireless connections to a very crappy ISP (monopolies, peh).  Head and shoulders better than what I usually see ANYwhere else.  Fantastic job!
120  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Community Exchange w/ Options, DRIP, 2FA, API, CSV, etc. on: May 16, 2013, 04:18:07 PM
I was asking for all types of fees incurred by using the PT. I have to admit, I did not realize not using 2FA costs me more. That notice should have be more explicit.

Thanks
