This is transferring between your wallet and a mtgox wallet, so that is pretty much peer to peer; of course, in this case, it seems the problem was not with the bitcoin transfer, but with mtgox's systems obtaining notification of the transfer from bitcoind...

If I understand correctly, this isn't about giving away a copy of a game, it's about having some kind of competition (eg. SC2 1v1 ladder) in the chosen game.

Well, hello everyone. I've had a forum account for ages, but apparently haven't posted much; I've also been around online for ages, as a quick Google search would confirm. On IRC (Freenode and OFTC) I go by idnar, I'm also registered at #bitcoin-otc (PM me if you require proof that this is my account).

Yeah, I can't find Bitcoin as a source or destination option either.

The transaction is of course visible in the blockchain for anyone to see, and since you control the sending address, you could sign a message using the key(s) of the wallet address(es) the payment was made from if you needed to prove that you are the person that sent the transaction. Unfortunately, there is nothing stopping the *recipient* from claiming that the bitcoin address you sent the funds to is the wrong address; I believe this is something that the "Signed URIs" proposal at http://electrum.org/bitcoin_URIs.html is attempting to solve, but I don't know if any online store currently implements this.

Due to the problems with PayPal (risk of chargeback, PayPal's hostility towards any bitcoin-related activity), I suspect most people will be reluctant to engage in a trade such as this. If you have any existing reputation online that you can leverage to reassure people you're not going to rip them off, it might help if you referenced it.
