1  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: April 17, 2013, 04:50:34 PM
yo Slush,

I'm using cgminer 2.11.3, using stratum.bitcoin.cz, but my stats page on the pool site is giving me a huge red box deprecation warning Huh  is everyone seeing this or ?  I am not using getwork...

Yeah i get the same thing, both of my miners are using cgminer 2.11.2, one says i'm using stratum the other says its not.

Is there a setting in cgminer that may be making one of them use getwork?
2  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can I make my desktop run smoother while mining? on: April 05, 2013, 06:26:02 PM
Cool yeah I'm just playing around with that stuff now, it just seemed to not be working right, but after rebooting cgminer it seems better . BTW, What is the range of intensity? 1-20?
3  Bitcoin / Mining support / Can I make my desktop run smoother while mining? on: April 05, 2013, 05:52:31 PM
I'm mining on my main desktop, which is running Ubuntu 12.04 and cgminer. Right now, I have a fair amount of input lag on the machine.

Is it possible to get a desktop running totally smooth while mining?
4  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti - Mining worth it? on: April 03, 2013, 10:11:52 PM
I have a 560 TI in this machine. I tried mining with it and it only gets like 90Mh/s. It's better than nothing i guess but not really worth it to me.
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / starting miner from rc.local on: April 03, 2013, 07:13:26 PM
I've followed some other information on the forum to put together a script that starts cgminer at boot in xubuntu.

So far I've got my script running from rc.local starting cgminer in a detached screen after 120 second delay. When i run rc.local manually everything works perfect, but when i reboot i get,

Code:
 [2013-04-03 12:58:42] Started cgminer 2.11.2
No protocol specified
No protocol specified
[2013-04-03 12:58:42] Error -1: Getting Device IDs (num)
[2013-04-03 12:58:42] clDevicesNum returned error, no GPUs usable
All devices disabled, cannot mine!

Is it trying to load cgminer before the GPU drivers load? I feel like i'm so close but just can't get over this hump. Any ideas what's happening here?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Bah, I was having a very silly and minor issue with the Catalyst drivers that i didn't catch. Once I got that figured out everything's running perfectly. I was very near deciding to just install windows, but I'm glad I stuck it out and got everything figured out. The linux setup is so much nicer to run headless.

Well tomorrow's a different day, who knows what's going to happen with prices. Everything depends on what happens with the value of the currency and the difficulty of the network.

Isn't the risk of buying bitcoins with paypal the same risk as buying anything else with paypal?  What is considered to be the safest way to do this other than going to someone in person and making sure you get the cash in hand?

Yeah i've got my main desktop mining right now on Ubuntu, in slush's pool, with poclbm on the command line. I just want to get this other machine doing it rather than on my main machine. I'm confident I can get the mining working, but getting these catalyst drivers working may be a different story, lol.

I was kinda wondering along the lines of windows, or linux, that kind of thing. I did look into the one you posted though, but it seems like it's no longer being developed.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Choice for mining rig operating system on: April 01, 2013, 01:16:35 AM
Is there any preference for operating systems? Is there any benefits of certain ones?

I'm trying to get a headless ubuntu system going with my Radeon 5850 but the catalyst drivers are just not cooperating. I guess I'm mostly wondering if the days of struggling with catalyst and ubuntu is worth it.

Hey there, I made an attempt at bitcoin mining a couple years back with little success. Trying to make another attempt so figured I'd join a community and try to get deeper into it.
