21  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Isn't deflation theft, too? on: June 13, 2011, 04:45:57 PM
Let me answer with a question:

I decide to store some type of computer cable, and suddenly the manufacturers stop making it. Now there is a lot of people that want that cable replacement and a very reduced supply, therefore the price goes up. Am I stealing from someone?

So inflation isn't theft either, right? After all, if people choose to use an expensive cable my company makes that's their choice. If my company is able to dramatically decrease production costs and therefore reduce the price that ought to be a good thing.

Emmanuel Goldstein was behind it for sure.

For once I agree with you.

With a 2 BTC handgun a 3-year-old child can easily kill his/her abusive 6' 300 lb father. No other piece of technology brings about this sort of social equality.
24  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Porsche 911 turbo for BTC's any takers? on: June 13, 2011, 06:12:35 AM
8700 btc seem fair.

Let's see. Bitcoins are currently worth about $24 each. You want $208,000 for a two year old car. I can go out and buy a new one, same model, from the dealership for less than that.
25  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Arrested for feeding the homeless on: June 13, 2011, 03:39:15 AM
As much as I hate rich greedy old men like Atlas, I have no sympathy whatsoever for homeless adult men. They are ultimately the reason for a lot of the poverty in our society. Since they'd rather drink, do drugs, and enjoy themselves than take care of the children they ultimately sire.

Ultimately, the laissez-faire system people like Atlas propose is fair. People who work should not be forced to support those who refuse to do so and are detriment to society. Except in the case of impoverished children. People have no control of what circumstances they are born into. Children born into poverty and abusive homes do not deserve their plight at all. They can't possibly support or defend themselves.

In the case of children and young people (it takes a long time for someone to fully mature in this society) I feel complete government support is justified. The thing is, if the government stopped giving handouts and healthcare to useless old men, there'd be a lot more available for the children they've been abusing and forcing into poverty. We don't really need more taxes but better management of what's collected now.

If you were my son and demanded anything from me, I'd probably slap you silly.

If you were my father I'd either put something poisonous in your food or stab you to death while you slept. Better yet, I have a gun now. If my dad ever comes anywhere near me, I'll shoot him dead.

That's just the way it is.

But don't you believe them!

With the amount of spamming and trolling I've been seeing, I think people should only be able to post outside of the newbies section if they have a post count of over 9000.

Cool. Looking at that chart, if I bought 5 ATI 6990x3s, I'd get over 9000 MH/s!  Grin
34  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do pools ensure participants return their successful hashes? on: June 12, 2011, 08:07:38 AM
Thanks!

Is this because the pool's address is already included in the block of data for which a hash is being generated?

I'm not familiar with the internals, but the solution you find will only work for the pool, yes.
#

Thats the exact reason, right.

The calculated Hash hashes also the transaction to the pool address. If you change the pool address, the Hash will change.

Well, what if you generate a hash that meets the difficulty criteria but by that time the pool's closed? Does that mean the coins go to a dead address and are lost forever?

We're not censoring you. Everybody can still see your posts; they're just easier to avoid.

I'm John Kerry and I approve this message.

I've heard it performs very well for Folding@Home. Does anyone know how it measures up for SHA256?

What effect do posts here have on the price of Bitcoin? I for one have bitcoins and I've "lost" over $1000 in this recent drop (that is to say if I sold at $30 and bought back now), but I'm not worried. It'll go up again and I bought in for much less than what it is now anyway.
39  Other / Beginners & Help / How do pools ensure participants return their successful hashes? on: June 12, 2011, 07:53:12 AM
My understanding is that pools pay participants based on the number of "near misses" they submit while the pool itself is only able to post a successful block if one of the participants submits a hash that meets the current difficulty level.

What's to stop a peer from reporting all of its near misses but keeping the winning hash for itself if it happens to find one? This seems like an ideal strategy since the peer is guaranteed a payout from the pool for all the blocks it doesn't get based on its share, but will also get the full payout for the few blocks it does happen to get.

Thirty seven!

you dick, clearly you are just trying to get up to 50!

Can't a brother get a little peace?

It's war on the streets and war in the Middle East.

Instead of a war on poverty they got a war on drugs so that the police can bother me!

And I ain't never done a crime I ain't have to do.
