1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 2.0 on: April 13, 2013, 10:04:17 PM
Well, if you guys don't thing the market was manipulated then let's agree to disagree on that.

If there is no stability in the value of a bitcoin how can you expect it to be adopted? If you sell me something today and I pay you with bitcoins on what basis are you calculating how much coins I should pay you? Do you just pick a number out of thin air? No, you peg it to a Fiat currency and if those bitcoins are worth a 1/4 of their value a day later wouldn't you be a bit pissed? How can bitcoin be widely adopted in that kind of environment?

I have to disagree to peg it to a fiat currency. Never has in history the world over involved massively in all fiat currency and now much countries are debasing their currency in a mutually exclusive suicidal attempt to increase their countries respective exports. There are serious consequences to debasing one countries currency.  The Federal Reserve Note since 1913 has lost 96%+ of its value as its debt has increased 5,000 times.  Hows the hope and change thing working out now? Peg it to a basket of hard assets and by God do not let the CFTC regulate it; like they do to the price of Gold/Oil.  Starve the beast...
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC-E.com - Not Able to login! WARNING - They are not helping me! on: April 13, 2013, 06:27:49 PM
I had full access the night before.
I know my password, username and email, as I've been using them for a couple weeks now.

However ever since the night of April 11th, i haven't been able to log in, and the system tell me my email does not exist.

I have emailed support, no response now for nearly two days.

I'm concerned my account was hacked.

You were hacked... I'm sorry to have to inform you, but yes this is exactly what has happened to the rest of us here

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=173354.0

I had even more than 10k USD in my account, they have no intention of making good on what is completely their fault.

To the last person posting above, it looks like you have a windows virus or something else going on there... For all of us in the thread I linked above, most of us use Linux and have only had issues with btc-e and NOT mtgox.

What a terrible thing for the community to have to go through... All of this DDOS and hacks are making the general public want to stay away for the time being.

Maybe that's the plan...

5  Economy / Goods / Modern Chinese Coins on: April 13, 2013, 03:29:35 PM
Be very careful purchasing Chinese high value coins, there are factories producing fakes by the thousand.
And YEP i know Ebay provides protection.... but just how would you detect a 'wrapped' coin without the correct equipment?

Very true.

Only purchase if you know what you are purchasing. I do not expect any random person to purchase any of these.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I completely endorse it.

Shibaji is a highly esteemed member of the Chinese Coin Forum, the #1 North American Chinese Coin Forum in terms of members.  Buying Chinese NGC or PCGS slab coins guarantees authenticity (one can look up s/n online).  Just for Chinese coins to mature up to American coins market, it would have to rise no less than 10,000% as the Chinese Coin Market is just maturing. Currently, the hottest grossing ethnic art pieces goes for record braking prices and its not EU, US, Australia--its the Chinese Art Market. These rare mintage coins will one day surpass PM prices by a wide margin IMHO.  Tiny supply= huge demand for these coins.

CNBC is doesn't really bash bitcoins like other channels, but heck, they sure find the most amazing guests to talk about them

LOL, WTH??  Everyday the bought and paid for lame stream media is getting more and more irrelevant...

7  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [OPEN TO NEW CLIENTS ON 04/09] Bitcoins Direct - Private off exchange sales on: April 12, 2013, 10:28:32 PM
I did all that, even practiced by encrypting a message to myself and decrypting it successfully before I imported your key and encrypted one that I emailed to you. Did you get it ok?

Probably our inbox is packed.  We are not accepting new PO "yet".  Hopefully sometime today.  If the markets can delivery timely quotes and volatility is less than 30% an hour we will start accepting POs.  I will get funding instruction to all new clients (like yourself) in the next couple hours.

What is PO?  Thanks in advance...
8  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: EPiSKiNG-'s COINS!! BUYING / SELLING BTC - USA on: April 12, 2013, 04:53:00 PM
$100 spread / BTC ? Awesome!  Grin You certainly need some competition.

Totally agreed.  Also, to whoever is dumb enough to pay his asking price for btc will definitely win the next lifetime 10 year Darwins award, lol!

His prices seem pretty fair to me. If you use Bitinstant you will pay a 4% fee on whatever amount you purchase plus the $3.95 charge.

Yes, it is fair now, after he modified OP, earlier it was $270 per btc, when btc was less than 200. Anyway, I am glad that it is fair now, and my sentiment no longer apply.

Same here. Sentiment has definitely changed based on current offerings. I love the free market of BTC.  I currently see ALOT of fear int he market.  When people see fear I see opportunities, cheers.

here is a map of BOA locations, looks like there are a number of states without them.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/15/Bank_of_America_footprint.png/800px-Bank_of_America_footprint.png

You may have to setup state specific accounts with smaller banks, which might be more hospitable to your business.

One can spread the risk around but an USD currency collapse will ensure one will get wiped out in their business account, if one cannot manage systemic international business risk. Besides FDIC can only service insurance for maybe 5% of the US deposits, if lucky.  Total US bank deposits are sitting at around USD 10 Trillion currently.  Call FDIC, they will tell you. They have USD 33B to cover the loss plus another maybe 100B from the not so federal reserve, with no real reserves.  This is a very real and present danger to our nation and the world over. Currently the BRICS nations are no longer accepting USD for world trade.  USD=Petrol dollar.  No cheap petrol= scarcity in clean water and food.

Word from the TOP Officer of the current most powerful military in the world.  This guy didnt get this position by being dumb.  Just saying...

“I think the biggest threat we have to our national security is our debt,” said Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during a “Tribute to the Troops” breakfast in Washington last month."

If a great majority do not accept USD's in the future do you think the value will go down or up? Great for BTC (BTW IMHO among others)  Just saying...one needs to manage risk in this dynamic/acute business climate or risk going insolvent.

Crypto Current LLC--Hit me up if you got any questions for systemic international business risk management. I could give you a free initial consultation as a public service for your business and possibly save your business from insolvency so after the storm passes your company will emerge as the top in your class pending any black swan events. A little about me...Military (No I will not disclose what branch publicly) working with various alphabet soup agencies.  Basically I have extensive MI (Military Intel) contacts which works closely with ALOT of different agencies and various people in the world financial industry from NY to HK.

Anyhow, just wired the money over to you guys.  Now the waiting starts but I have no doubt you guys will come through based upon past customer satisfaction and the awesome services rendered, cheers.

13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Businesses and Developers, Let's Get Started! on: April 08, 2013, 03:49:42 PM
I'm founder and owner of a distributed software development company providing elastic teams for our customers across the US and Europe.  Since we were somewhat hit but Cyprus fuckup, now I'm actively researching alternative ways I can collect payment for our services and pay out to my developers.  The economically opressive regime in my country (Ukraine) just pushes us more.

Most likely we'll soon be engaged in some btc-related project or start one.

And yes, we accept BTC for our service :-)

Ukraine?  Nice, always wanted to visit there as you guys have some of the most naturally beautiful women in the EU.  Anyhow, hows the black market there?  By chance do you know the spread of the USD compared to the Ukraine currency?  It very telling...
14  Other / Archival / Re: I sold everything at $158/159 this morning on: April 08, 2013, 03:47:20 PM
Is the OP even still here?

Man you should have sold 50% and kept 50%

Never know it could be a good thing as whenever there's a parabolic rise in the underlying security there's room to correction.  I believe we are in a cyclical bull market for btc barring any "black swan" event like a major hack.  Its generally agreed hacking btc is difficult if not impossible but I learned in life--never say never and forever is a long time, cheers.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are the best ways to get bitcoins. on: April 08, 2013, 03:43:50 PM
I currently use Bitinstant to my MTGOX account, but I am looking for a reputable service on here that I could find BTC from.
What are peoples favorites?

Its subjective as if one wants to remain anon they will pay more and it initially takes time to set up.  If you dont care about your privacy then verify with one of the exchanges.  Also, read some good stuff about a direct exchange service like the otc board BUT you have to be careful who you trust and cant rely just on feedback score since those can be manipulated.  If your like me a US citizen the other option is to get rid of it.  Its a personal decision and for me really personal as my family has been in the military for generations.  I read its much easier to get btc if your not subject to FACTA.

18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Isn't bitcoin too SLOW to be called "instantaneous"? on: April 08, 2013, 03:04:34 PM
The first selling point of bitcoin at bitcoin.org is:

"Instant peer to peer transactions"

But "1hour" to get at least 6 confirmations doesn't seem instantaneous to me, does it?

VISA-like transactions, that is 5-15 seconds, is what people regard as "instantaneous".

I don't get it. So please explain.

Imagine bitcoin gets popular:

1) You go to the supermarket or the bakery and pay with bitcoins...

2) You wait 1hour before you can go home???!!
Conclusion, will you never be able to use bitcoins on physical shops or when payment needs to be REALLY instantaneous?

---
Another thing that is terribly slow is opening your wallet to take a look at it. If your wallet is on your pc, and you power it down every night at least, it takes 5-10minutes "to look what is inside your wallet".

That is TOO slow and also consumes too much disk space to be used on mobile phones!

---
I think those the problems comes from the block chain design and the mining.

Don't get me wrong, bitcoin chain mining incentives, its security design and all make a lot of sense and its what makes bitcoin appealing; totally decentralized, limited coin supply, etc.

BUT, at the same time it seems the 10minute cycle, which is perfect for mining, is TOO bad for transactions.

Transactions usually are:
- Lightweight.
- Really instantaneous (<20seconds in the worst case)
- Once confirmed, they should not be reversible.

I know that bitcoin claims that transactions are NOT reversible, but that is also a half truth: only when the transaction is "quite" re-confirmed, it can be trusted have actually happened.

Please, let me know what I am missing.
How is bitcoin handling or will handle this issues?
I think these are really important to get right, specially if bitcoin ever grows up to be widely used just like VISA or paypal.

Should bitcoin provide a separate non-mining (not awarded) block chain for instant transactions (probably with bigger fees, although much smaller than traditional paypal or visa ones)?

The idea is that you create bitcoins just as you do now. It is ok to wait some hours or days for a new bitcoin balance to be "assured", but then you can move that balance to an "instant payment account" that will make transactions on a separate block chain designed for instant payments.

That block chain is just like the mining one, but it is just not rewarded with mining, or it is rewarded with just a really small mining prize  with a very easy POW that can be solved in 2-3seconds by the current bitcoin network power. Transactions that go there are confirmed in 12 to18seconds... THAT is instant payments!

What problems do you see in this approach?

Yes, definitely...I also noticed if you want your btc faster there's always more fees involved--not good as our incomes already gets taxed.  Its double taxation and dont even get me started on the rigged stock market! LOL
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Frustrated! Can someone honest help me purchase $1000 to BTC today? on: April 08, 2013, 03:02:22 PM

Thanks for your honest opinion.  Yes, Paypal sucks.  Did you notice eBay has also raised fees?  I hate all these fees.  The fees are too high.

Same. Although, tbh, I factor fees into costs for most things, without thinking about it... you kinda have to. Banks move your money (and make way more than necessary, most agree) and charge for the security and reliability. It'd be a pain to do it any other way (except maybe BTC and the future). I use Amazon like mad. I pay for shipping of course, but as it happens, the total cost with the fees is less than the cost of the items in local stores, typically. Because local stores must pay for many things that Amazon has streamlined out -- clerks when the store is empty, utilities, a marketable location, etc. Amazon can efficiently run one warehouse in who-cares-where, and it is still cheaper.

Soon I expect people will flock to things like Bitcoin for the same reason we shop at Amazon. It just makes more sense; the old way is obsolete. Happily, instead of killing off mom-and-pop shops, we can gladly undercut the banking cartels.

Thanks for the honest answer but I fear if we dont say something the fees will get higher.  I hope the free market comes up with a solution as gov intervention is always bad news for us the consumer.

BTW, where do you get your btc from?  and how?  Im asking you since you seem to know more then me and have experience, thanks in advance...

20  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Frustrated! Can someone honest help me purchase $1000 to BTC today? on: April 08, 2013, 11:25:16 AM
Posting to get out of the newbie forum. However I've been lurking since the dawn of time, so listen if you like.

Like the mechanic's triangle: Anonymity, Speed, and Security are all working against each other here, and generally speaking you can only pick two. Most of us will agree you can't compromise too much on security. Exchanges are already a compromise, see how many have been hacked etc. I'm still pro-Bitfloor but even they have quite a lot of bad blood out there. So let's assume you aren't going for the Paypal for coins thing.

Speed: Yeah, you want it with the price rising, got it.

Anonymity: Sorry, almost everywhere that is fast is not anonymous -- you're flashing an ID somewhere along the line. In the US, the safest fast route with anonymity is something like BitInstant, you could always pay a hobo to pay the CVS clerk if you're paranoid.

Germany rules out a lot of things, but localbitcoins.com etc. is still the best bet for anonymity. Wear a Guy Fawkes mask and find a local dude. Should be able to happen today.

FYI, afaict, Coinbase is at least putting on a good show / genuinely responsible, by limiting transactions. They could make off with a fortune with this predictable-enough rise in value. Pyramid-scheme style, then cut and run. Frustrating yes, but I actually hate Gox alot more for overextending and oversubscribing themselves. Laggy interface, goes down with DDOS and invokes their 85% market share to panic sell... etc etc. Not happy with Gox lately if you can tell... anyway good luck.

Thanks for your honest opinion.  Yes, Paypal sucks.  Did you notice eBay has also raised fees?  I hate all these fees.  The fees are too high.
