I suggest ETH is still a favorite to buy at the end of this, because ETH is still a belle for lovers of the world of cryptocurrency and prices will stabilize to a higher level later.
Exactly my thoughts, I have a huge stack of ETH and I keep buying on occasion, give it some more time to stabilize and it will become even more interesting for traders.

so the main marketing plus is that only 250 coins exist? but i guess you will allow a fractional amount of a single coin to be traded? then there are really more then 250 units that can be traded, so it wont be rare at all if for example 100.000 people hold just a small sum. imagine BTC would only have 1 "coin", the whole system would still work the exact same way and have the same value, just the conversion would have a smaller factor (0.0000001 vs. 0.01).

I guess you are looking in the wrong places, there are indeed Chinese exchanges for most existing alt-coins. Keep in mind a search on US located Google and others wont reveal most of them, nor will Baidu. The insider markets are hidden in the Tor-network and even I2P, good luck finding them and getting a login. Keep digging around, if you really need access, but i would not spend too much money in a marked that could die any day. Guess only the very low transaction costs would be a reason to go there.

I am just waiting for the day the Chinese force a hardfork, i think its a very possible scenario (unattached to the real reason for a fork). But with a unlimited blocksize things will only get worse I guess...

Only Poloniex!
"only" poloniex is risky. The past should have told us, that it is never good, when an exchange gets too big and holds too many coins. See MtGox, see cryptsy. The problem is, until something happens, it's best to be on these exchanges for the reasons mentioned: Best liquidity, generally good service, not riddled with shitcoins and fake pumps, stuff like that. my thoughts exactly.. never bet on a single horse. MtGox, never forget...

what would be the benefit of a fast(er) wallet<->wallet transaction? there is a good reason every transaction needs be be confirmed and there is no guarantee that will happen in a specific time. but as xhomerx10 said, the fastest average block confirmation time is the indicated value you should be looking for.

Fancy name. Fancy website. Fancy whitepaper. Fancy team with fancy pictures.
What could go wrong?
A little bit too fancy i guess, if the would spend less time on marketing and more on support and actual service it could be a thing. But as i see it now its nothing special, just one out of many in the big sea.

For me still the best altcoin in 2016 is Litecoin(LTC), Ethereum(ETH), it is because these two altcoins they both established big community in bitcoin world/cryptoworld and many of the investors also believe in these two that's they continue to buy and used it.
A big community is alright, but nearly all of them will flee like rats when the ship sinks, there is simply no real countervalue behind it all, especially LTC is doomed when the first little bug is found or some high-roller starts playing around with the market.

What about IOTA? for me it seems like only a single guy is coding everything, but then again the system is so complex i doubt it would be possible as a one-man-show... Anyone knows how much people are actually involved in the developing process of IOTA?

No, actually you are wise not to invest your bitcoins. It will can be suicidal for an emerging trader.
Agree, this coin is so hyped, why would anybody buy at such a high price...

dumb but obvious question, as quantum computing doesn't exist yet, how does anyone know that their chosen encryption is immune to it?
Check out the IBM Quantum Experience, even private user can already use it via cloud services.

it also smell like a scam to me. the way the reward worth, is only instigating a big pump at the beginning and a big dump after, but there is a good thing about this coin, it let many miner form the other coin to mine it, this will decrease the overall difficulty and make all the other coin profitable again
I dont think the overall difficulty will be affected by this in a noticeable way. The difficulty would have to drop a lot to make it profitable again
