1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: April 30, 2013, 12:55:17 AM
Hello I'm curious about something...

And I'm also encoruaged to hear of the growth of Bitfinex by addiing the additional trading platforms, I'm curious to know if and or how that is a benefit to lenders as well?

Will these additional platforms assist in the case of forced liquidations or so called black swans?

Any thoughts on these improvements from the lender side would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

partially filled at 524.99994% (0.0000000049)

How on earth does anyone need to borrow $0.0000000049?

It might be that your offer was used to supply the tiny remainder of some new trade position, which was mostly filled by using other lending offers? The engine combines available offers to allow a trader to open a specific position size.

Well -- intuitively I'd say, an amount of $0.0000000049 looks very much like a carry-over from some numerical imprecision accumulated in a previous calculation. (Such can typically happen when you subtract two numbers which are very close)

I'm ok with it, I guess.  I just hope they keep it until it is a full $1.00.  Smiley

Hello all...

I just saw this on my screen and wondered how is it possible:

partially filled at 524.99994% (0.0000000049)

How on earth does anyone need to borrow $0.0000000049?

Hello...

I just thought of something as a feature request that I'd like to share. I don't really need notification email, I'd prefer a text message!  Also, if there was an option that we could set that would send us a notification when I've had $XXX.00 sitting waiting to be used after YY:ZZ hrs:minutes that would be awesome.

So in example, I would be able to set an option that would send me a text message when $500.00 or more was sitting unused for more than 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Hello all...

I'd like to know what the traders consider crazy or outrageous interest rates.  I'm new to Bitfinex and the lending feature is what I've done the most for the past 17 days.  Over that time, I've received interest rates ranging from 50% to 2400%.

I'm curious to know what the consensus is regarding interest rates among the traders.  And if you do choose to respond, please indicate what time zone you're in.  I've a theory that geolocation plays into this decision and I think it would make for interesting information.

Considering the number of offers for lending and the minuscule amount of requests to borrow, has anybody actually succeeded in getting his RECENT offer borrowed?

Yes, I've had a few 1200% loans out for a few hours over the past two days. All of my VIR funds seem to stay out right now.  I've adopted the policy of waiting 36 hours before changing the terms of my offer to see if it be taken. Usually this will allow two US morning sessions to run their course and usually during US timezones morning sessions the VIR money runs out and then other offers have a fighting chance.

It is my belief that those that are borrowing my funds that at offered over VIR are trading the intraday volatility and that those on VIR are those with many small (low btc quantity) positions and are waiting with a pending stop loss order around $100 and a limit order around $140 to $150.

Therefore over the past week, the only time my "new" money / interest is used seems to be in direct proportion to intraday volatility. On "calm" days, like today, it sits and sits and I impatiently wait for my notify email to come in. And then around 5 pm Pacific, I start checking my history tab to see how much is credited today.

You know if I may request a feature, I would also enjoy an email of the amount interest credited that day.

Quick feature request that I'd really appreciate if possible.   Could we get an "always notify" toggle (even a global option in the user settings)?   That way the lending process would be 100% automated if preferred (autolend and auto notify).

Thanks!

Please, please, please... Yes, please!

In the same spirit with which there will be an option for lenders to opt to have insured loans or not, thus causing a fee to the lender, might I propose that there also be an option to allow lenders to choose whether or not their funds are subject to a pre-payment penalty?

I'm sure there are at list of unintended consequences to it, however, I can only imagine this idea is at least worth exploring.

Is there a historical Bitfinex VIR interest rate chart?  I'd really like to see that chart overlayed against historical Bitcoin price.  Anyone know of any such tool?

If you are going with insured and non-insured loans - be sure to give advance notice and let people transition their existing loans to one of the two formats.  Thanks.

What is an insured loan in this case?  Does it increase my return?  If so, at what cost?   Anyone, got a link for a newbie that can help me understand this please?

Thanks.

If traders can switch their loans... can lenders re-lend loans too in the future?
E.g. I see a very cheap loan on the market, borrow the money and put it out there for a higher interest rate. I would be more than able to pay the lower interest for the loan anyways...

It's ironic that you mention this.  I was just thinking that it would be neat if the borrower's could request an extension on a particular loan without closing their position.  Possibly for a 1% one time fee to the lender?

Hi all,
I created a Greasemonkey script to fix a number of issues and add a few nice features to Bitfinex.
Head here: https://community.bitfinex.com/showthread.php/277-Bitfinex-Greasemonkey-Cloudflareflare!-Fast-order-books!-Less-typing!-Less-calcs!

As of right now it has these features:
– instant page updates: the orderbook on the exchange/trade page will load as soon as the page does (instead of 30 seconds later) and update slightly faster
– USD value order editing: want to convert all the USD in a wallet into BTC without taking the calculator? Type your price and USD amount and the BTC amount will auto calculate
– Cloudflareflare Cloudflare mitigation: exasperated by your orders getting eaten by Cloudflare and being unable to trade for ~45 seconds every time? Here comes the rescue. Orders will submit in a hidden iframe. If the Cloudflare page is detected, the BUY and SELL buttons will flash "Cloudflared!" until the Cloudflare page clears. Then just resubmit when the buttons come back to normal. BONUS: submitting an order will not reload the entire page, losing the order book for 30 seconds!
– Confirmation for orders in transit: buy/sell button is replaced by a loading animation when the order is in transit.
– Click to copy price/volume: click on orderbook prices and volumes to autotype order. Want to snag that order at the bottom of the order book? Click on the price or volume and it will auto type it on the appropriate buy or sell side of the order form. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS LOOK AT THE ORDER YOU ARE SUBMITTING.
- Deposit interest information: yearly interest rate and interest per day data in deposit view.

Just loaded this, and I'm not seeing anything different.  I'm primarily looking in the lending section so if you've got a screen shot of the differences that would really help a tons.  Thanks.

I have an idea and just in case it hasn't been mentioned before, I wanted to state it:

In the same way that the margin traders can see the amount they have to pay for the borrowing consistently increase as time passes, I would really enjoy something similar on the lending side.

That's it and thanks for all you're doing...

Hello...

Is there priority on rationale on whose money gets used first inside the VIR bucket??

Hello...

As a general rule of thumb, how long will you allow your funds to sit before making a change to your term, interest rate, amount, or just turning on VIR and auto-lend?

Currently going on 9 consecutive hours without earning interest,

Hi MrJMassey, welcome to this user community Wink

I'll try to answer some of your questions...

I'm curious to know historically was is norm for the VIR or rate you base any of your projections on?

The idea was (if I understood it correct), that VIR somehow reflects the "weight center" of the currently active loans. This would make VIR attractive both for lenders not interested in actively managing their loans all the time, and for traders not willing to get ther loans manually for each trade.

In the more modest times before the last round of madness started, VIR rates were often around 120%, which is 1/3 per day. But then the Bitfinex users started to discover that you really can offer loans for 888888888.88%. At some incident, such loans were really picked up, this way "poisoning" the VIR rates. What followed were several attempts by the Bitfinex staff to improve the formula of VIR calculation. Meanwhile, they seem to have settled by a combination of damping factors and limits which works quite well. Bottom line is that we don't have any practical experiences how this new VIR formula works in more modest times.

Also, note that by default the system prefers VIR rates for opening a position (unless the trader explicitly disables using VIR). Thus, in the situation when there is a huge block of VIR offers (say $60000), then you need to offer a fixed rate below VIR explicitly, to get into business. This has also the effect of pushing down VIR over time, which is the intended behaviour (it regulates itself this way).

I'm finding it a challenge because I don't know exactly when it was taken and closed.  And this becomes especially difficult when loans are opened and closed quickly.

Indeed, the lending section is not yet as transparent than the trading section. It seems that it's a feature quite high on the wish list of most lenders: getting a more detailed reporting here. As far as I have understood, Bitfinex staff has already acknowledged that some improvements are desirable here.

While probably most of us agree that Bitfinex as a whole has way more important features in the pipeline, like adding a second exchange, getting the business and paperwork settled, also for insured loans and so on. Scaling up a development team also creates a huge overhead initially, to get new team members up to speed. And this way, there is the real danger that the Bitfinex team suffers a burn-out with all that feature wishes and development possibilities popping in.

You indeed understood my questioning regarding the VIR correctly.  I only wish my perspective wasn't already spoiled.  I should be overjoyed at the possibility of 100% annual returns, but have seeing a few days of 2 - 3% per day returns, it seems disappointing.   Anyway, you mentioned lenders managing their loans.  Can you explain further what you mean by this?  Right now, I just know that I get excited around 5 pm Pacific time daily because that's when the interest shows up.  I'm sure your "management" process includes more than what I just stated.

Hello all...

I am relatively new here and new to Bitcoin in general.  However, I've tried the exchange rate trading, margin trading, and now I'm completely intrigued at the lending aspect provided by Bitfinex.  I'm curious to know any best practices for keeping ones funds out there being used (i.e. best terms, rates, & amount combinations you've had success with).

Unfortunately for me, when I started lending it seems quite easy to keep my money in play at 1200% and so, watching the VIR drop to a "mere" 100% seems a little depressing, however, in the real world be completely acceptable.  I'm curious to know historically was is norm for the VIR or rate you base any of your projections on?

And then, what are you using for trying to keep tracking of your loans?  I'm finding it a challenge because I don't know exactly when it was taken and closed.  And this becomes especially difficult when loans are opened and closed quickly.

Lastly, thanks for taking the time to read this (and hopefully answer).  I'm sure some of these things are relatively newbie, however, for now this is the first place I've found to attempt getting the detailed answer I'm looking for.

Thanks...

Thanks again for replying. As of this moment, in reviewing, each companies website neither of them mention an opportunity to be the lender of USD to those looking to trade on margin and only CoinSetter mentions being able to earn interest on btc.

Does anyone know if either of these companies will allow us common folk to lend the USD or btc?  Or is that window about to close because these guys are entering the space?

Hello all..

I couldn't find where else to place this so if it gets moved I understand.  I'm wondering if Bitfinex has a competitor that also offers the service of margin trading / going short and the lending associated with either of those.

Thanks...
