41  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 3 x 7970s - CGminer tweak advice on: April 24, 2013, 05:11:56 AM

I just spent another day trying to get more out of my 7970 XFX DD.

The best I can do is:

LTC: 525kH/s

BTC: 660MH/s

I don't know how some people get in the 700s, I can't even get close.
42  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Question about the output screen -- CGMiner on: April 23, 2013, 09:43:47 AM

Here's my output from CGMiner, what does the Diff 1/1 mean?
Is it related to: Connected to stratum.btcguild.com diff 1 with stratum

Is there a way to raise it, and is there any benefit to doing that?
I've noticed on other screen shots that the numbers are higher than mine.

43  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / New rig with old hardware? on: April 22, 2013, 06:34:14 PM
Just a couple of questions before I start putting a rig together.

Building a rig from some old hardware, do you see any problems with this set-up?
I'd like to be able to run 3 cards(hopefully 7970s) in the rig.

MB: Asus Crosshair - 2x16 PCIe and 1x4 PCIe - Should be able to run 3 cards??
I'll have to run at least one card on a riser, can't get to the x4 PCIe slot.

Processor: AMD 6400+ AM2 - 2.2Ghz
Ram: 2GB

Power supply 1000W or 1250W?

Do I need dummy plugs for each card running Xubuntu 12.04?

Run on USB Drive or should I get a hard drive?

Or should I just use a new motherboard that can accept 4 cards ... do you think building a rig that can run only 3 cards is a waste of money?

Edit: I'm planning on using this for Litecoin as well as bitcoin. I've read that Litecoin uses more ram but I'm currently running one card mining Litecoin and as far as I can tell there is no ram usage to speak of. Maybe I have something configured wrong?

Tomorrow I think I'll try the 12.8 drivers. I'm using the 13.1. Maybe I can get a little bit more:)

Another thing that doesn't work is when I put the engine and mem clock settings in the script it crashes. I have to start cgminer with the default settings then go in and tweak the engine/mem. Anyone else have this problem?

Here's what I'm using in my start-up scripts:

BTC Start up: cgminer -o http://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -u ... -p ... --device 1 --intensity 9 --auto-fan --temp-target 65 --temp-overheat 75 --temp-cutoff 80

LTC Start up: cgminer --scrypt -o http://pool.give-me-ltc.com:8080 -u... -p ... --device 1 --intensity 13 --auto-fan --temp-target 65 --temp-overheat 75 --temp-cutoff 80

I can't remember if I reformatted or not, I know I deleted the existing partitions and made it one large drive.
47  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Installed linux over windows drive with my wallet.dat on: April 21, 2013, 05:53:27 AM

Nope, nothing that important.....would be nice to get the files back tho:)

There's a ton of recovery software for windows, just need to find one that will work for Linux.

Any suggestions?
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Installed linux over windows drive with my wallet.dat on: April 21, 2013, 05:47:10 AM

No I didn't let it finish, I was looking for a file recovery program, I need more than the wallet file.

Couldn't find one that I could get to work.

49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Installed linux over windows drive with my wallet.dat on: April 21, 2013, 03:53:00 AM

Is there a good recovery program for Linux?

I'm gonna try TestDisk, anyone know of anything better?

I've got (5) 7970's running at 690Mh/s each.  Stock voltage with 1150/475 settings. Intensity is set at 13.

I've got 2 on one mobo, and 3 on another.  They are all in an open chassis setup with good forced air ventilation, and the hottest card never goes over 80C.

Which vendor .... XFX?

BTC: I can get to 635Mh/s, with engine clock @ 1100, when I try to lower the Mem clock the card crashes.
LTC: 645Kh/s with Mem at 1700 and engine at 1075

How long will this take to run on a 160GB drive?

Fixed the path .... /dev/sda ... it's doin something lol

I must have somehing wrong ... says can't find device.

root@xubuntu:/home/xubuntu/Downloads/pywallet-master# ./pywallet.py --recover --recov_device=/sda1 --recov_size=160Gio --recov_outputdir=~/.bitcoin
Can't open /sda1, check the path or try as root
root@xubuntu:/home/xubuntu/Downloads/pywallet-master#

I've tried sda and sda1

Gonna try it .... thx
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Installed linux over windows drive with my wallet.dat on: April 21, 2013, 01:35:31 AM

Here's what happened.

I was running Winxp on my hard drive, partitioned as C and D. The C drive had the operating system/program files. The D drive was used for my files only.

I created another partition to install Ubuntu and had it working for a while. I was going to back up my files on the D drive of course, but ..... I figured I'd do it later lol. To make a long story short, at a certain point neither system would boot, so I installed Ubuntu onto the drive wiping out all partitions. I can't seem to find any utility that will allow me to even try to recover files on that drive. Yep .... wallet is on there, along with some other stuff I'd like to get back.

Any ideas?
57  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Looking For Advice On Tweaking 7970 on: April 19, 2013, 04:50:18 PM

I think I was running right around 600Mh/s on BTC, without any mem or clock adjustments.

I'm trying LTC now and can get max 520Kh/s with upping the clock and mem to max settings, runs stable there with no HW errors. LTC temps are 69C, with one card in the box(and 4 fans...not maxed out tho). It's actually pretty quiet. There is a certain speed that the XFX fans make more noise, hope that doesn't get any worse.

58  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: XFX 7970 Power Supply on: April 19, 2013, 10:16:29 AM

Definately send it back, if ya ever wanted to sell it later on it's a bonus if it will actually have an output that works lol.

Yeah, this PSU is pretty old but still workin, I've never had a problem with ThermalTake.
59  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: XFX 7970 Power Supply on: April 18, 2013, 10:52:34 PM

I think some power supplys have a single 12v rail thats capable of delivering xx amps and other supplies have multiple rails, each delivering a fraction of the total current available. Mine only has 2 PCIe outputs, so to put another card in here I need to get another PSU. Unless there's some other way around that.

In other news, that "black edition" XFX 7970 arrived yesterday and was a dud.  On it's way back to NewEgg

That sucks, I thought I'd be doing that today....got lucky I guess...for now.

Got it runnin at ~600mH/s at I=9 and temp ~72C.
