Never checked on the 7950, it wasn't listed in the hardware guide I was lookin at when I got the 7970.

Well, I'm off to Linux land. Can't buy Win7 and I'm not gonna buy win8.

Installed 3 different distros of Linux on usb drive, hopefully I'll find one I can handle.

For crypto mining the slot bandwidth is not important.  Even a 1x slot is fine for a 7970 on extender.

Great, thx.

I might have to pick up another 7970 somewhere, looks like I bought the wrong card(XFX). Supposedly it is locked, guess I'll have to wait and see what the hash rate is. The good thing is I won't be able to fry it! Any good threads on ppl smokin their GPUs lol.

Hopefully the 7970 will do OK with Litecoin too, haven't looked into that yet.

If I get another one I might try the Sapphire.

It's starting to make some sense now.

I = intensity 1-9 with d being the default of(~4-5).

Can't wait to get my card, will be a long weekend tweakin it.

The other PCIe slot on my MB is only x 4, if I bought another 7970 would I get the same performance in that slot?

Thx c789:

What exactly does the -I arg do?  I can't find a good explanation anywhere, just examples.

Can you explain the difference between "-I d,9,9,9" and "-I 9"

My guess:
It looks like the -I 9 will use all GPUs available, and the -I d,9,9,9 will use one GPU for desktop, and all others for mining?

If I only have 2 cards would -I d,9 work? As long as GPU0 was the 6450 and GPU1 was the 7970

Single pool, regular desktop:

cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password

Single pool, dedicated miner:

cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password -I 9

Single pool, first card regular desktop, 3 other dedicated cards:

cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password -I d,9,9,9

Multiple pool, dedicated miner:

cgminer -o http://pool1:port -u pool1username -p pool1password -o http://pool2:port -u pool2usernmae -p pool2password -I 9

What is the purpose of the multiple pool option? Will it switch if one goes down or something like that?

You should use 64-bit windows, i've run into memory issues running 32-bit windows for LTC mining (only 3 GB available). With 64-bit you can use >4GB in the future.

I've been thinking about linux and the Centos option looks good, just not sure if it will work with my cards. Will probably go with Win7 or 8(runnin XP 32 now), card wont be here till Friday so I have a cpl days to figure it out.

That old PSU is gonna bug the **** outta me.

I should just bite the bullet and get a new one, save this for a backup.

PS bitminter.com  is the eseayest pool/miner

I'll have to check it out, haven't been there yet.

I've never run 2 graphics cards at the same time.

Stupid question coming up!

Is there a way to tell the 7970 that I only want to use it for mining, while I only want the 6450 for browsing etc..?
87  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Casual Miner Setup Question on: April 09, 2013, 11:30:12 PM

I just ordered a 7970 and currently have a 6450. My motherboard is kinda old ... Asus Crosshair am2. It has 2 PCI slots, I was wondering if I could install both cards and hook up the 6450 to the monitor for browsing etc while the 7970 is dedicated to mining only? Should I get a null plug for the 7970 or just connect it to my monitor(Dual input monitor).

7970 Card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1823334

Lol, shows out of stock now, must have got the last one this morning!

MB Asus Crosshair am2

CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor

4G Ram

750W Thermaltake Toughpower PSU - about 6 or 7 years old lol.

Gonna finally have to upgrade to win7 64 bit from XP 32 bit if I can. I don't wanna go to Win 8.

I was wondering if I should run the 64 bit Win7 or just go with the 32? Old MB and CPU???

Anyone have any suggestions or see potential problems with this set-up?

Well, I'm just tired of Windows. Once I get familiar with linux again I'll never spend another penny on an operating system. Probably won't work out though, I'd probably be switching back and forth between the 2 and end up going to win7 anyway. Twice the headaches lol.

I just created a thumb drive Ubuntu bootable, gonna at least give it a try.

GUI MINER SCRIPT says Windows Vista, 7 or 8 !

It can't be that cause I don't want that to be the problem!

I'm so tired of windows, but haven't used linux(actually hp-ux) in almost 20 yrs. Not sure I remember how.
Any suggestion which linux version to install? I need to use this is as my everyday computer also. I'm not going to win7 or 8.

I even tried 50Miner and I get the error no open CL drivers. I un-installed all AMD stuff and re-installed and still having the same problems. I might even try using the Diamond drivers just to try it.

I'M waiting for a confirmation to my post on that subject.

Any updates on this?
90  Bitcoin / Mining support / Miner does not use GPU - only CPU - 3KH/s! on: April 08, 2013, 03:54:42 PM

Just trying to get started and my Litecoin rate is about 3KH/s lol.

I think the problem is that it is only using my CPU and not my GPU.

I have a HD6450, don't laugh, running on winXP 32.

When I start guiminer it says no open cl devices found and just minimizes to the tray, can't get to any settings.

When I use Litecoin and go to the mining tab I can get that to run at  at 3KH/s to 7KH/s but I don't think it is using my GPU at all.

I've installed the SDK App Rev 13.1. Do I need a previous version?

What am I missing?

OK, forgot about the fees.

How bout 4 x .02 .... hat should leave a little change left after the fees?
93  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First Transaction on: April 05, 2013, 07:01:29 PM

Yep, I'm using QT.

So I could actually send this to someone else without all 6 confirmations. Well, I'm willing to give it a try. Are there any newbs out there who would like me to forward the .01 ... OK ... just noticed it was .1 and not .01!

I'm gonna try to break this up into 10 .01 and send them to any newbs that want to test out their first transaction. Post an address below!

94  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First Transaction on: April 05, 2013, 06:44:04 PM

Wow, that was fast. It shows up in my wallet as a balance. I thought it took like a few days to get confirmed, validated or whatever.

OK, I see it has 1 of 6 confirmations and status is unconfirmed. Seems like it shouldn't show up as a balance in the wallet until after all 6 confirmations.

Really appreciate it CFB, thx again.

I see there is no address from the person you received coin from. If there is I don't see it.

Pretty cool stuff so far!
95  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First Transaction on: April 05, 2013, 06:35:07 PM

Thx CFB

Here's the address: 1qZqYkL6EbT1bK8aMcJr3xmAGstNFjhbT

I used the same one to the other place above for the 2uBTC. I think I read it's ok to use the same address, but if you use different ones then it's easier to track?

How will I send it back, will your address automatically show up?

96  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First Transaction on: April 05, 2013, 06:28:01 PM

Thx for the tip holy_cow.

Found a site and I guess they will send me 2uBTC sometime in the near future? I thought the min was .01?

Your request has been saved. You will receive 2 uBTC for this BitHit when we have enough BitHits to send the next batch. You are visitor #2938 to complete a BitHit today!

Just wondering if this will automatically show up in my wallet if I just leave the program running, or do I need to do something else.

97  Other / Beginners & Help / First Transaction on: April 05, 2013, 05:42:55 PM

OK, I finally got synced and I'm staring at a blank Bitcoin wallet.

I've done some reading and there is quite a bit to learn so to get things started I'd like to do a transaction but am a bit leary about buying at this point.

Is there anyone out there willing to send me the minimum bitcoin transaction, I think it is .01, and I will send it back once received. Would there be a transaction cost? I thought I read somewhere there is a way to do it without transaction fees but it takes longer.

Before I get a bunch of comments saying I'm trying to pull a quick one and get a bunch of ppl to send me coin, that is not the case at all. If someone is willing to do this please post here that you have done it so that no-one else does.

I think all I would need to do is include an address from my wallet but I won't post an address until I get some feedback.

Just wondering if this is commonly done as a way for newbs to get their feet wet.
