Being resistant to censorship, how will you treat any information that is false / Fake? Will there be any validation to add content to the network?

https://github.com/Novusphere/improvements/blob/master/informal/judges-and-bounties.md

If this doesn't clear things up, let me know.

Sounds promising and I'm interested, but I really don't like cryptopia, so do you plan to listing it in another exchange?
We were recently listed on https://deltadex.io/trade/novusphereio-ATMOS and you try joining Discord to see if someone is willing to do an OTC trade. Dabs is in our Discord so could ask him to be an escrow.

I have a question.

"This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic".

"Novusphere provides an immutable liability-free blockchain based database which developers can use to build censorship resistant platforms.
We believe that freedom of speech and expression as well as other rights are gradually being eroded and seek to address these issues".

Seems to me that these two actions are mutually exclusive.

How do you explain your decision to moderate this home thread while concurrently building a protocol that stops these types of censorship

MZ

Moderation is not censorship if it is neither abused, nor forced. You are not forced to discuss Novusphere in this thread you can make an unmoderated thread and it's practically the same. If I could just "hide spam" instead of deleting it all together from the thread that would be preferred Smiley

At https://eos-forum.org moderation is completely opt in. You can either add us as a delegated moderator on there, or use our moderated endpoint https://forum.novusphere.io

Related to this, I had a thought - most possibly I am far from being the first one having it... Smiley
The best option for having both moderation (to keep content clean), and the freedom of speech, on any forum or media, is to have an ability to see the discussion in both moderated form, and is freespeech form, just by toggling a switch on GUI, like applying a "moderation" filter, if you want it. That could allow to both keep the content for those who like to see everything (even if it means reading through boatload of shit), and have a clean version for those who want the on-topic content only.

Well, I know this is off-topic... Though, from the other hand, as far as I know, this project is going to do something like that - every gateway portal (not sure I use the right term) will decide itself which content to filter out, but the content itself will remain there, for the most curious ones Smiley

Setting up your own forum is optional, you can be a moderator without running your own forum proxy.
Forum proxys (what you called a gateway) are allowed to redefine some of the default settings of the forum, i.e. https://forum.novusphere.io redefines the default subs. Another default it redefines is the delegated moderators defaults (none) to add "Novusphere/eos-forum-mod" by default.

If you want to view the unmoderated content, you can go to Settings - Delegated Moderator and ensure you have no set delegated moderators.
If you want to opt-in to moderated content, appoint some delegated moderators (same tab).

Anyone knows who controls this wallet: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/atms/address.dws?17539.htm ?

It looks like the swap wallet, but it stakes like crazy. I still can understand the need for the swap wallet to stake - to ensure the chain is moving well during the swap.
But! If swapped coins are not burnt, but are accessible to the dev team, then who can guarantee they do not end up being dumped to the open market (as the markets are still on the old chain)?

Even if we trust the main dev... by some reason (well, to some extent), this is a huge security risk for the project, as other parties can (might) get unauthorized access to the wallet. Things happen, I have already seen such situation on different project.

Isn't it better to burn the swapped coins, and allow only a smallish amount to stake forever (like 1000-5000 coins). Even 1000 coins can perfectly ensure the chain is moving, when diff is adjusted.

It's not the swap wallet, or wallet related to the team. Only about 1% of ATMOS has swapped so far and I suspect it'll remain very low until nearing the swap deadline. Our plan for handling the swap is very similar to what you described, as more ATMOS comes in and we become the majority of the staking power on the network we'll begin burning off surplus.

Hi, all

For a general summary of pros/cons, please see our previous blog post and consider listening to recordings of the meetup discussions.

That's quite interesting. I read this:
https://medium.com/@thenovusphere/considering-eos-for-novusphere-vote-guide-500dfb5261ef and this:
https://medium.com/@thenovusphere/considering-eos-as-novuspheres-blockchain-layer-247cd744127,

understood I can vote for using EOS as blockchain layer, or against that, however didn't find the answer to a simple question - what is the suggested alternative?

So if not building over EOS, which way the project is supposed to go - using own blockchain (as was initially planned), or building over Ethereum, or building over NEO, or building over XXXX...?
I.e. if I am voting against, what I am voting for?

Voting against is a vote for the status quo plan which was to build out own blockchain tailored specifically to our needs. This is very much still possible and doable, however it means there needs to be a much longer "testing" phase, specifically a testnet even after everything is done to properly ensure the security of the over all platforms. Using an existing blockchain can piggy back off the existing security model and the fact that said chain's code has already been audited/well tested.

I'm not sure which meeting it was, but I previously went into detail as to why Ethereum isn't a great choice for this -- or any fee based blockchain. It completely ruins the user experience if to add content to the platform you need to pay to do so. Imagine paying everytime you made a facebook post, or a tweet, or shared something that would be useful to other people (content). This goes in turn as to why DEXs feel bad to use because you lose money in fees simply for using them.

The client code for the web wallet being developed is available on git hub, and we're progressively working through testing functionality being added to it. Of course, we want to make sure everything is at a safe and stable point before we consider calling it a "release candidate" fit for general public use. If you're interested in helping test, reach out to me on Discord @asphyxia.

Thanks.

We've begun a FAQ at https://novusphere.io/Home/FAQ in which we've already received some suggestions on what to add and will be continuing to expand upon this over the next few days with some other important questions (i.e. will there be paywalls). If you have any suggestions on what to add to the FAQ, please feel free to post or reach out to us on Discord. The main site has also been updated slightly to point to the FAQ as well as the current main market (Cryptopia) where atmos is traded.

I had mentioned on Discord we would be revising the time line for things. For clarification as someone asked about closed testing, this refers to the team (Novus) doing internalized tests and tweaks. When open testing has begun, those who have requested to be a part of it on Discord will be given a guide on how they can help. With that said, it's important to emphasize on the wording "our estimated current time line" in the previous post as things may change as we run into new problems or decide it's important to add new features before the official release.

The revised timeline is as follows:

  • July 1st: Begin closed testing of spv/web wallet
  • July 14th: Begin open testing of spv/web wallet, bug fixes, feedback
  • July 28th: Revised release candidate, testing of release candidate
  • August 14th: Official (stable) release

This adjusted time line ensures that things aren't as rushed and hopefully if there are unforeseen problems our estimates aren't too far off as there's now some leeway. Given the significance of August the 1st in terms of Bitcoin politics, it's also advantageous in terms of publicity to shift the planned stable release away from this date.

Regarding translations, nearing the time of the stable release we'll be looking to bring a few people on to help with translations (including important posts, website content and the new wallet software). This will also allow us to advance on a PR front as we'll have much more work to show in terms of what has been done so far.

Thanks for your understanding and support!

Hello,

I apologize as due to some miscommunication with our designers, there's been a small delay in updating the main site which was suppose to be published today. Instead, we are now pushing this back to Saturday. With that said, our main website will be soon updated removing irrelevant information and focusing directly on the project in more general terms as the opening post of this thread does. After this weekend, we'll be adding a link to a revised overview document to the main site which will contain the more technical details which you can think of as a pre-whitepaper. As others have mentioned in this thread, the next major update will be the release of the web/spv wallet followed then after by the technical overview document (whitepaper) of Novusphere detailing it's primary uses, features, and how it will function and what problems we're trying to solve.

Our estimated current time line for next month goes as follows:
  • June 24th: Main site updated
  • June 26th: Release revised overview document
  • July 1st: Begin closed testing of spv/web wallet
  • July 8th: Begin open testing of spv/web wallet, bug fixes, feedback
  • July 22nd: Revised release candidate
  • July 22nd -  July 30th: Further testing
  • August 1st: Official (stable) release

As for Bittrex which others have asked about, I'll reach out to them again once we've issued our official stable release giving them an over all update of how the project has progressed and where it's headed. This does not mean that there are any guarantees that we'll be added to their trading platform and for that I'd continue to advise community effort and support to encourage them to do so.

Thanks.

This is great. Roadmap in OP needs work tho

For sure, this will be updated as well fairly soon. Still currently in discussion about a few things until we put one out that will aim to cover the next few months.

Hey everyone,

As some may know, I took a few days off to catch up on my personal life but now it's back to focusing on the project. In my absence, Notorious had updated the OP with our initial draft of our restructuring of the OP. After some internal discussions, we've reworked some of the wording with the intent of making the OP less technical and easier to digest for the every day reader. We're currently looking into doing the same for novusphere.io which has been long over due to an overhaul. In a few days, it will receive an update removing information relating to the crowdfunding and instead show current relevant information to the current Novusphere project as well as make the connection to AFIX easier. We agree with the community that it's equally important to convey information visually as it is to be able to express it in the more technical terms for those interested in specifications.

You may have noticed the atmos section is currently empty. This will receive an update tomorrow as well as the revised roadmap (again what was posted was an initial draft).

The second post of the OP has been removed as it's information has now been compressed into the first. Instead, the second post will contain screenshots of the SFSI's to make it more visually apparent (as well as easier to find!) some of the current use cases of AFIX.

Thanks for your support, feedback and patience!
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 📁 novusphere.io 📁 atmos (ATMS) 📁 Open Development 📁 on: May 21, 2017, 02:51:42 AM
Update on Development

Currently, our primary focus has been on the web wallet. The first steps into this are making a server that can be ran coupled with the full node to provide an additional api on top of it. Like a block explorer, a server associated with a SPV/Web wallet needs to be able to query not only the UTXO set in real time, but also balances and other information very quickly. To do this, they typically index the information in a relational database. Development on the server aspect has been going well, I'll be looking to publish the work on it to open source fairly soon and then continue development by pushing updates to GitHub. As of right now, there hasn't been much of a reason to open source it without a graphical interface to go with it (after all very few would be able to make use or any sense of a command line application intended to only be used for testing).

As for the interface of the web wallet, we've been going over revisions and few changes. Here's a preview of one of the older mock ups (we're aware of the typo). Keep in mind this is one of the mock ups with on going changes as we've started developing the production version of the client side design, but it's not at a state where it's very presentable screenshot wise.

https://i.imgur.com/gEG0wGI.jpg

The pending changes to this particular versus the actual design that's currently being worked on is changing the color scheme to fit inline with that of the rest of Novus's SFSIs (this is because we'll be looking to integrate those directly into the web wallet itself). Below the balances (where currently it shows BTC rather it will show ATMS or the ticker of the coin related to the server your'e connected to) it will show an estimate in BTC and USD (fiat settings will be changeable).

From the screenshot, you can infer that coupled with the wallet will be a basic block explorer for convenience. I say basic, because we're not going out of our way in terms of developing the server for the web wallet to do things such as taint analysis to guesstimate wallets like how Chainz does.  You'll be able to look up transactions, blocks and addresses related to the coin of the server you're connected to (pretty standard).

Promotional / Design Updates

In the coming days, we'll be making a graphical oriented change to the OP and our most up to date road map. Coupled with this, there will be a few updates to the site to reflect where we are currently at in the project and making current information more accessible to users (i.e. relation between afix.io and its sfsi's and novusphere.io).

Thanks for your patience and continued support as always.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 📁 novusphere.io 📁 atmos (ATMS) 📁 Open Development 📁 on: May 08, 2017, 07:10:31 AM
We've now made available the image sfsi where you can upload images. As you can see, currently we've made the home page the uploader itself rather than a content browser. It occurred to us just before our release that we will need to make some parts of browsing opt-in as there is a risk of NSFW content appearing and we would like to avoid this from explicitly showing without the users consent (*cough* Wolf). Due to this, we've disabled some of the browsing features until we've finished these tweaks.

It's important to highlight that like the Video SFSI, functionality of this will be improved over time but its important to pick and choose where we currently focus our resources as several things are being developed in parallel. An easy example of improvement you can shortly expect is being able to select multiple images at once. We hope however that with the launch of the Image SFSI it's now easier for someone new coming in to grasp that this isn't simply about videos, movies, etc.

This week, I'll be creating a repository and committing some work done for the web wallet and continuing development as open source. If there's any "special" functionality you would like to see available within the web wallets interface, please feel free to either post, discuss it on discord in #ideas or DM me directly. As mentioned before, one thing you can expect is native integration of the two factor schema we've already introduced so users can make use of it without going through entering all the tedious console commands.

Thanks.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 📁 novusphere.io 📁 atmos (ATMS) 📁 Open Development 📁 on: May 05, 2017, 12:08:20 AM
Overview and Expectations for this May, 2017

This weekend we'll be publishing what we've been working on for the Image SFSI. Consequentially, since for the image SFSI we allow users to upload content (images) for us to host it's fairly easy to modify this to allow for any content to be uploaded to us for a fee. I say this with a word of caution because for obvious reasons if the content is in violation of laws and we're requested to pull it from our servers, we will. It's worth noting as well that while we could charge atmos for such a system there's no doubt that it's far cheaper in retrospect for a person to either buy a cheap HDD and/or rent a storage server. In other words, if the community wishes for such a service it can be easily created but we feel it makes little to no sense to prioritize such a system in contrast to one where the file/content is not only held by our servers, but rather many users/servers have an incentive to seed it making it so it's not a single point failure system.

Midway through this month we're expecting to have started on atmos integration and web wallet development. As of right now, our designers have already started working on the wallet so we'll be able to offer some screenshots soon. Anything relating to the wallet will be open-source from the get-go and this includes block explorer related development. As this web wallet will initially compatible with the temporary version of atmos, it means that it will also be compatible with other coins with minimal changes. We are looking to introduce a few security features native to the interface such as multisig 2fa. While some are against the idea open source because someone can "steal" code, open source thrives on contribution from the community. We feel by enabling other projects easy accessibly to more secure infrastructure then what's currently available will be a benefit to the entire altcoin scene as a whole. As mentioned before, the underlying mechanisms of the wallet will be later changed when the blockchain is changed but the idea is to familiarize people with the UX early on.

At this time, we will also be looking to expand in terms of promotions. At this time, we're primarily focusing on our crypto-oriented audience and main stream will follow later on. This means for those who have private messaged me about translation bounties, we'll be looking to have a few of these done soon so we can begin appealing to non-English speaking audiences.

Currently, we are in discussion with another developer for a research project we're interested in. All I can say at this time it utilizes AFIX and relates to an application of machine learning and neural network design. Assuming discussions continue to go well and are finalized, we'll be soon introducing this developer in the near future and giving the full details of the scope of the project he'll be working on!

Edit: Dabs has also said that he'll be soon be resubmitting an application to Yobit on behalf of this project. Thank you to those who helped contribute to the fee associated with the listing Smiley

There's still about 9.9% of atmos to be distributed in the crowdfund still sitting in the crowdfund wallet please withdraw your coins if you haven't!

I am behind schedule on this however I have been working on an update which outlines the goals of the project in further detail then what's currently available in the OP/site. Currently, I'm mainly focusing on getting it up to date with our current plans regarding the Web Wallet development and Atmos Integration.

Click here to view the document.

Please give it a read and offer constructive criticism letting me know what you feel needs to be explained further in depth, if you would like me to go into further technical detail about how something will be achieved, etc. This is not a final draft but is intended to offer an update on currently outdated in insufficient information. Certain things are subject to change over time.

For those who have been asking how will Atmos be used since all that's currently in the OP/site are some bullet points, please refer to the document linked. I'm happy to issue bounties (amount TBD based on contribution) to those who help with the revision process.

Once all the information has been updated to the present and fleshed out, we will begin issuing bounties on translations.

Thanks!

Marketing is important, if no one knows about the coin, you wont get as many buyers.  I'll give it 6 weeks if we're still below ico price then i'll probably get out.

This isn't directly at you in particular but encompasses the last few posts of concern in regards to volume and promotions. I said this in Discord but perhaps not on the forums, but promotions will be priority of ours once we've completed some small changes that are soon to be coming for the video sfsi and the release of the image sfsi. There are a few important things we must lay the ground work for before we start promotions:
  • People must be easily to distinguish the platform is not just limited to video/images; At this time many come in and seem to thing videos are the only thing related to this project and throw outlandish claims about how we only care about pirated content or other nonsense like that
  • We need to clean up our image and usability. When a product or site launches, even as beta if you fail to capture your initial audience at their first glance, not many are willing to give you a second chance.

So promotions will be going on around the time we've started working on developing the web wallet.

As for obvious trolls like Jeffery, just hit the "ignore" button on the forums as the problem with these people is they can never decide if they hate the project or love the project. This bipolar attitude likely stems from attempts at dissuading others from entering and others to panic sell so they can continue to accumulate cheaply.

What economic incentives are planned for purchasers of the ATMS cryptocurrency? Will there be a service provided that can only be purchased with ATMS, or...? How is the coin being integrated into the wallet that would benefit Visio token owners? Where is the value here?

Fairly soon when we're ready to start promotions I plan on fleshing out the points in the OP under atmos integration to fully explain how they will work and be implemented in terms of the currently issued coin. For the time being, I'm happy to discuss them informally in #general, send me a message @asphyxia on discord!

Ask a 3rd party developer if what I said is incorrect if for whatever reason you don't believe me, I'm happy to discuss it with someone who is code literate if they believe otherwise. In fact, ask the VTR developer himself Smiley. This isn't a game of you say jump and I say how high. There are more important things to be worked on then improving the wallet of the temporary block chain.
