1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Whattomine - profitability website with basic json. on: August 17, 2019, 03:40:25 PM
Myriadcoin (XMY); which uses SHA256d, Scrypt, Groestl ("Myriad-Groestl"), Yescrypt, and Argon2d algos; just had its regular halving, which you noted by reducing the block reward by half, as is usual. If you're getting that from your node, please update the node from https://github.com/myriadteam/myriadcoin/releases  The block reward is still 250 xmy. The economic halving was done by leaving reward as it was and doubling the block time. That saves on the non-useful chainindex growth. As currently set, the next two "halvings" (still at nominally two-year intervals) will be done the same way.

New figures:  250.0 block reward and a two-minute overall target blocktime, meaning a ten-minute nominal block time for each algo.

We'll get that propagated over the next few days. Thank you very much for mentioning it.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / MYRIACOIN'S (XMY) YESCRYPT ALGO MINING WILL ***NOT*** BE DISABLED!!!!! on: March 24, 2019, 05:12:55 PM
MPH, why are you disabling Myriadcoin's yescrypt algo? I think skein is getting dropped.
https://www.reddit.com/r/myriadcoin/comments/asv1ph/myriadcoin_01640/

Yes, you must have seen our notification. // - Myriadcoin will hardfork soon. Myriadcoin's yescrypt algo mining will be disabled after the hardfork.

Please say where you got this misinformation.
Myriadcoin's Skein mining will be disabled after consensus lock-in, and Argon2d-4096 added. Yescrypt remains.
Read the release notice https://github.com/myriadteam/myriadcoin/releases

If MPH wants to disable its Myriad yescrypt pool, that's your business. But please remove the incorrect announcement from your site. We're answering this question four times a day now.

Argon2d-4096 is Argon2d with 1 iteration, 4MB memory cost, 1 thread, 2 lanes. Like UIS and ARG; not like DYN.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMY] Myriad | Multi-Algo, Fair, Secure on: March 07, 2019, 12:00:22 AM
Myriadcoin 0.16.4.0 has been released (required update):

https://www.reddit.com/r/myriadcoin/comments/asv1ph/myriadcoin_01640/

Is there a date set yet for the Hardfork?  It is going to Argon2d, correct?  Just asking because I want to do a how to video/hardfork update on the project.  Thanks.

To be clear, skein will be deactivated and argon2d added. Sha256d, scrypt, myr-groestl, and yescrypt will remain.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Algo change discussion on Reddit on: January 03, 2019, 03:18:34 AM
AMD will require improved mining software to be competitive; we hope to encourage development of that.
I hope that the team and community will make final improvements for AMDs in order to increase both stability and mining profitability for miners.

Promotion towards that is being set up, even before any algo change is finalized. https://www.reddit.com/r/myriadcoin/comments/abzrhx/bounty_for_improved_opensource_yescrypt_amd_gpu/
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Algo change discussion on Reddit on: December 23, 2018, 03:12:02 AM
The yescrypt we have is now a fairly strong algo for somewhat recent Nvidia GPU's. AMD will require improved mining software to be competitive; we hope to encourage development of that. Presently, there's some agreement about bringing in Argon2d4096 (as in UIS and ARG) for CPU, and deactivating skein.

The discussion continues on the subreddit, and more participation is encouraged.

Any discussion of the change here on bitcointalk probably won't be as well followed.

What is Myriad?

Myriad is the first Multi-Algo coin. Correct implementation of Multi-Algo leads to
higher security and prevents centralisation of mining power.

The algorithms of Myriad have been selected to allow securing the blockchain with
a diverse set of hardware. We embrace ASICs, GPUs and CPUs.

Decentralisation of mining power is important to keep control of a coin democratic.
Other coins have had their mining power become more and more centralised which
have already caused problems for bitcoin. The prevention of this is one of Myriads
main strengths and innovations.

Myriad is also utilizing merged mining (AuxPOW) for Scrypt and SHA256D, which
means miners of Bitcoin and Litecoin can help secure Myriads blockchain with no
extra cost for them or for Myriad. Myriad gains tremendous in security from this.

A further measure have also been taken to secure the coin. A single algo can only
mine six consecutive blocks. This together with an advanced difficulty calculation
prevents the so called time warp attacks.

All of this means that Myriads Multi-Algo POW is more secure than other coins and
offers exceptional 51% resistance.

Who Controls Myriad?

Myriad is much like Bitcoin a community driven project full of volunteers. We have
coders, designers and other professionals helping out. But we also have a bunch of
regular people that help out in any way they can and are an active and valuable
part of the Myriad community.

What about large changes to Myriad Core, who decides?

For large changes in Core we use what is called mining consensus. For Myriad this
principle actually works because of Myriads decentralised mining. In 2016 we
successfully replaced the Qubit algo in favor of Yescrypt using mining consensus.

Why Myriad?

In addition to the above: Myriad have a proven track record. It was released in 2014 and
have stood the test of time and have adapted when needed. It also have a more
active community than ever.

Hopefully this will convince you to learn even more about Myriad and become a member
of our community.

  • Each proof of work algorithm has its own independent difficulty.
  • Any algorithm can find the next block.
  • All algorithms use the same difficulty adjustment method.
  • On average, each algorithm has the same chance of finding the next block.
  • Each algorithm aims for a block generation time of 5 minutes.

Your reported block time for Myriad (XMY) has been incorrect since forever, resulting in wildly incorrect calculations. It's a five-algo coin. Either you'll need to get reporting for each algo separately, multiply by five, or use a fixed figure.

Separate reporting would be best; no idea how that would be retrieved. Mutliplying would be inaccurate because of natural block-rate differences, but vastly closer than what you're using now. Close enough, maybe. The fixed figure would be 300 seconds, the per-algo target, five times the overall target.

Note that the previously scheduled reward-halving coming in  ~May has been replaced with a doubling of the target time. Then target will be 600 seconds per algo.

What's happening about replacing Skein with Equihash?  Is that still happening?

Equihash as implemented by ZCash has been ASIC'd, so using Equihash-as-it-is is unlikely. But the ASIC advantage wasn't nearly as drastic as it has been for other algos. Perhaps tweaks of some sort. Needs investigation.

After being inaccessible to this user for some days, the pool is back up.

I rented some more powerful Yescrypt hash and brought it over. Now this being a rented rig, of course it was unprofitable -- knew that going in.

It did show that with just a few more miners on pokemongomongo, my regular units would be more profitable at your pool, hands down. Just have to be patient about the payouts. Far fewer blocks; far greater reward per block. And the first-block payout won't be very good. It's the ones coming after that I want. Way worth it! I'll see if I can get a few friends to join in. Wouldn't take much.

As for Skein, really appreciate you considering it. The picture has changed. Most Skein pools have now upgraded to the new wallet, so that couldn't be a draw for you. All effort on your part, and no reward. Thanks just the same.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [MYR][XMY] New Myriadcoin YEScrypt (CPU) pool, pokemongomongo dot tk on: December 13, 2017, 01:59:26 AM
My mistake. Was mistaking you for another pool. You have upgraded, in fact I think you had already upgraded when I posted the above.

Thanks for being on top of things. I'm bringing you my hash, such as it is  Smiley

Until we get enough miners and pools on board there's a thread on https://reddit.com/r/myriadcoin that's tracking upgrade status of pools. You're already mentioned favorably there, but there'd be no harm in posting your own welcome in a fresh thread.

Again, thanks for your steady support of Myriad.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [MYR][XMY] New Myriadcoin YEScrypt (CPU) pool, pokemongomongo dot tk on: December 08, 2017, 01:51:47 AM
Please upgrade to Myriad core 0.14.2.3 and announce on the Myriad reddit sub that you've done so. Signing your blocks would help you advertise that you've changed, too.

The community is overwhelmingly in favor of SegWit, and the signalling period starts shortly. You'd probably gain some hash.

For the same reason, any chance of the Skein pool returning for a while?
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][COAL] BitCoal - MANDATORY UPDATE - CPU/GPU MINING - CRYPTONIGHT on: July 20, 2017, 07:36:38 PM
nicehash attack is an issue. Do you guys see potential hard fork to difficulty calculation change as good option? Karnowanec use tested it first and nicehash has far less power to do such damage. Write your opinions here. The hardfork is trivial and probably most other forknote based coins will do it

An improvement in the short term would be good, but can you give just a little more info on just how the difficulty calculations would change? Me, I'm not looking for anything detailed, just a quick gloss.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][COAL] BitCoal - MANDATORY UPDATE - CPU/GPU MINING - CRYPTONIGHT on: July 19, 2017, 08:56:53 PM
Is anyone else not seeing payments from Democats in their wallet? On my system this started around 6 hours ago; last transfer I see is 2017-07-19 12:17:47. There should have been a dozen or two since then. Block height in my wallet is correct.

Network difficulty approaches 8M, and total network hashrate is close to 100 KH/s. Democats' share of nethash is very approximately 1/8th; when whatever the overly capable rig is visited Democats a bit ago, that share was very much higher for a short while.

Don't know what hardware you're using, but is it possible that accumulating the minimum send of half a Bitcoal is way more challenge than it's worth?

"Mining for the Masses"? Anymore, I think not.

Nice try, though. Worth revision if enough people have the energy to improve it beyond what a Bitcoin or CryptoNote basis can accomplish.

Was there a fork at 215439?

Hello ,

Seed... my wallet no sync/

First, be sure you are using at least version 2.0.4 from the Forknote repo.
    https://github.com/forknote/forknote
2.0.6 is probably a better idea, but I haven't made the switch myself yet so I can't say.
After posting this, slb replied with the below, and has a great deal of knowledge about Forknote, while I have practically none. So I've edited.

In your bitcoal data directory, delete the file p2pstate.bin. The file will be replaced with a fresh copy when you restart forknote.

If you've started sync at all, your config file is probably ok as it is. If you want a fresh one, get it from
    https://github.com/forknote/configs
The two seed nodes there should get you on your way, maybe after deleting p2pstate.bin again.

If you still think you have need of further seed nodes, you can try adding these to your bitcoal.conf
Code:
seed-node=136.243.69.10:7700
seed-node=192.121.166.182:7700

Leave the two already there in place.

Last commit on Github Nov 2016? ?? Huh?

If you'll scroll up a very few posts, you'll see that you should be looking at ZoinPro/zoin, and you're not.

Zoin team:
Is editing of this ANN's OP still available to you? If not, you may be forced to think about a new thread.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ZOI] Zoin - Zerocoin based privacy - CPU - No founder's reward - 0.8.7.4 on: June 22, 2017, 02:44:01 AM
Hi, torig.

There's a pull request on the repo (both of them) that I think will fix your initial build problem. I don't care to publish the repo the pull request is from, mainly because I don't think I'll be maintaining it. But you're quite welcome to locate it (easy to do) and try the fix.

Zoin team:

Which is the active repo?
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][COAL] BitCoal - MANDATORY UPDATE - CPU/GPU MINING - CRYPTONIGHT on: June 12, 2017, 12:11:36 AM
COAL is trading again on Cryptopia.

Awesome news indeed!

I'm on my fourth sync from scratch, and still haven't gotten a full sync. This one's stuck at 147126, the highest yet, and will budge no more.

Built from latest forknote sources. No wallet involved; I'll add that after (if) the chain syncs.

Any suggestions?

The daemon has some ram issues on sync which makes it stuck. Just restart the daemon and it will be fine

Didn't work in my case, but after trying it daily or so, it "mysteriously" picked up with sync continuation only today. Special case here, probably; double whammy with ISP glitches and my own connection problems. I'll build 2.0.4 and run that next time I restart.

@slb: Add my thanks to others'. Please consider posting a personal or project donation address that uses other than Bitcoin. Btc transfers have gotten too expensive for frequent use or small sums, and somewhat irregular. Since Cryptopia wallets will be open again, I figure that in the case of Bitcoal, we could send pretty much any other currency you find handy.
I added a DSH donation address. All the donated funds will be used for Forknote bounties:
Quote
D6WLtrV1SBWV8HWQzQv8uuYuGy3uwZ8ah5iT5HovSqhTKMauquoTsKP8RBJzVqVesX87poYWQgkGWB4

Rather than syncing a Dash blockchain, I'd like to withdraw from Cryptopia straight to the donation address. Cryptopia insists on having a payment ID to do so. Do you care to post one, slb?
Cryptopia does not require a payment ID for Cryptonote/Forknote withdrawals, but space for one is provided if the reciever wants it. My problem was a mistyped, thus invalid, address. Withdrew bitcoal to my own wallet without payment ID successfully. Both times an invalid address was used for the DSH, the funds were returned after a wait approaching a day, which I think is appropriate.

Retried mypool.name today. Still a no-go. I like Democats just fine, but agree with slb about decentralization. Are there other publicly-available pools running?
