copumpkin's last post should be informative enough.

I found that I wasted time here that I could better spend pushing my mining capacity and otherwise pursuing commercial interests.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: satoshi=david chaum? on: December 04, 2012, 05:06:05 PM
David Chaum is American, which wouldn't explain Satoshi's use of British spellings. For example, glancing over his last posts in the forums I've found one (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1790.msg28715#msg28715) where he writes "modernised" and another one (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1850.msg22952#msg22952) where he uses "formalised". It'd be very unusual for an American to use these "-ise" spellings that appear in Satoshi's writings. Add to that the fact that he inserted a quote about British bank bailouts from The Times in the genesis block, and it looks like Satoshi is probably British or must have had a closer connection with the UK than with America.

Close but not quite.

Nope.  Easier to see than that.
4  Other / Meta / Re: Incompetent tag? on: October 20, 2012, 04:25:05 PM
As an asshole who does not fit that lame-ass description of asshole, I find your political incorrectness and cultural insensitivity offensive.

Besides, that tag would probably get the entire site blocked by most corporate content filters, not that most posts won't.

Plus, fuck you, that's why.

In fact I would like to nominate my home town, which I had to leave after we had some severe earthquakes that destroyed the city.

http://christchurchappealtrust.org.nz/
This charity was set up by the New Zealand Prime Minister.

Much of the CBD buildings lost there frontages. My home was fine, my parents lost theirs and had to live with me for 3 months. FEEL MY PAIN! Wink

There is a US-NZ tax free way to donate through the US.

PurposeDonation amount
AFOC: Hardship & Relief
Reference: 010
$100.00 USD

I specified that it was donated on behalf of scary-eyed batman, so if they don't thank you, punch them in the nuts.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think that there is something funny about BFL's new ASIC on: October 10, 2012, 03:11:28 PM
I think thats been photoshopped. I can tell by the pixels cause i have seen a lot of photoshops in my time.

Just admit that your team is using the parallel processing of the 6502s in the 1541s as hashers and are working on eliminating the thunks before shipping them as SC Singles.

Pixels, or beatific aura?Huh
7  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: theymos ; bitcoin.me ; others unknown at this time. on: October 09, 2012, 09:25:05 AM
That, or commit to moving to the first forum that has the features that are outlined here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50617.0

If the forum is dependent on features and not content, then it is not worthwhile.  You might as well go to Iggy Planet and set up shop there.

If you make excuses not to improve your life, you will always make the safe choice, and that path leads down to stagnation.

There is a bitcoin stackexchange beta, and as mentioned, /r/bitcoin.  The advantage of these over SMF is that you can smash people's arguments into invisibility by voting them down.
8  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: theymos ; bitcoin.me ; others unknown at this time. on: October 09, 2012, 04:51:48 AM
Well fuck me, I agree with LG... for once! Hats off to you sir. This whole thing is compromised. Where do we congregate next BTC community?

One should examine what is broken about this one before repeating the same mistakes.

Is it this forum, is it the leadership of this forum, is it a personality type, is it ...because bitcoin?

Again, I am a big fan of federated autonomous units.  With PGP auth, one can have the same account on multiple forum sites.  No need for SSO, OAuth, OpenID, etc.

If you're fans of Ted Nelson's ideas with Xanadu, you'll understand where I'm coming from.  I'd be happy to host sites on "fuck you, that's why," hardware innovation (although I think the per-vendor sites are a smart move), compliance (tax and legal), ideology and propaganda, and meta-forum-platform development, but I don't want to touch buying and selling, "exchanges," "securities," and all that other mess.  I'm sure someone who is interested in those topics and willing to accept the risks would pick those up.

And I'm not saying,"these belong to me," with that list.  I'm hoping that several people with both development (whether product management, execution, testing, design) ability and hosting capability will be able to step up and contribute to their area(s) of interest.

Think stackexchange, with a more suitable structure, and not owned by the same entity.  But bitcoin.

Let a million fora boom.
9  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: theymos ; bitcoin.me ; others unknown at this time. on: October 09, 2012, 02:11:18 AM
Every asset creator and every shareholder has complete grounds to bring claims against theymos, nefario and all other "owners" of GLBSE jointly and severally for all the on-going damage and losses they are causing by their refusal to take action, for their irresponsible communications that lead to near-failure of the market before the no-notice shutdown, and for the criminal retention of all sums sent to be used in the market where the exchange THEY OWN took those funds in trust for the trading activities of the various entities involved

Nefario registered the glbse domain and servers using his credit card so in the eyes of the legal system no other "owners" exist and how would you work out "damages" in either case ?

I highlighted the magic phrase for you.  Each of you is responsible for full recompense.  You can either pay it all yourself and rest easy, or hope that people pay according to their share.  At the end of the day, n things must be distributed, and if  < n have actually been distributed, everyone gets their asses handed to them.

Since it's multi jurisdictional, the weight falls heaviest on those local to the plaintiff.

When a thread like this gets to be 14 pages long (or more), does anyone actually read EVERY post or do people just read the last few and feel the need to chime in?

Basically the thread title and the last page.  Hardly ever even the OP.
11  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MPEx registration fee bumped to 30 BTC. on: October 05, 2012, 09:38:10 PM
build something better, or charge less.  it's that simple.

Bloomberg terminals are not easy to use, are ugly, and expensive as hell.

Why do they dominate the market?

Let me tell you. :-)

1) They are easy to use once you get to know how to use them.  Much like any computer application.  They are for power users, not people who expect F1 to be the DWIM key.

2) Expensive is relative.  The cost to the average user is not major compared to the ROI.  There are less expensive options for day traders and other consumer-level traders, but they don't have the full featureset (which you may not need).

3) They are *nuts* about innovation.  They keep the interface pretty static (which makes sense) and continually test and improve the backend.

4) Per #1, the industrial ubiquity means that you can go from terminal to terminal, floor to floor, and while the layout may be different, you'll be able to use the system.  Your dad can teach you how to use it, if he's in the industry.  The number of people who can help you (beyond the people coming out from Bloomberg to train you, or at their corp facility) is immense.

I do not think 'diaspora' means what you think it means.
13  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MPEx registration fee bumped to 30 BTC. on: October 05, 2012, 05:11:16 AM
As the title says, the fee for opening a new account on MPEx is 30 BTC, effective immediately. Already existing accounts are unaffected. The fee is projected to keep increasing for the indeterminate future.

How do you justify this ridiculous fee?  where/to whom does this fee go?

That's not how it works.  You have to justify to yourself that it's worth the fee.

If they haven't communicated value, then they've failed at marketing.

Different things.  They don't owe you anything, so they don't have to justify anything.

15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The EFF's damage to Bitcoin continues. on: October 04, 2012, 06:33:37 PM
The legal concerns they express are valid.
What legal concerns? There is nothing illegal about Bitcoins. Stating otherwise is pure FUD. Treat them as any other kind of non-fiat donation. I donate my underwear and even cash anonymously to the Salvation Army, and then take a tax deduction for it, as do millions of other people. Bitcoin donations are no different.

I suspect you're joking about the underwear, but that is non-deductible if used.
16  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BFL's new "highspeed manufacturing" capability? on: October 04, 2012, 06:21:06 PM
Reliable sources say this is where the highspeed manufacturing will take place.

17  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE is offline We will update our users on Saturday. on: October 04, 2012, 06:14:56 PM
Each equity should have its own separate website where users can buy and sell the security.

I think a whitelabel site would be a great idea.  git clone, bootstrap and configure, and go from there.  Account management would be tough unless there was federation, but underwriters could choose with whom they would federate for quick transfers.  If they don't trust or even like you, you don't get to participate in the StarCoin Alliance.

You could rapidly define and ensure a minimum level of security including cold wallets, openid or certificate based auth, a simple accounting backend, etc. by making them out of the box.

Mind starting a thread on features and prioritizing functionality into "can't do without", "important to have", and "wouldn't it be nice?"

That would be super cool and fantastically easier to manage from my point of view...or at least organized a bit better.

I don't have time to do product management on something like this, but could contribute code and advice.

Wow.  A bunch of angry nerds pushing a false dichotomy.  If you don't completely support Bitcoin, you are Bitcoin's enemy.
Yeah, that is the attitude that will encourage the greater public to adopt Bitcoin..  Nice job boys!!

Who of all the assets currently follows GAAP?
Although I am not a CPA, I believe I have followed GAAP for GLBSE:MPOE.ETF and GLBSE:SS
Note however that MPOE.ETF is now winding down.

You're also one of the people about whom no one is worried. :-)  (Correlation?)
