Hearn is one of those devs you hear a lot about along with Gavin, Maxwell etc.

Hearn is like the JaMarcus Russell of bitcoin. Great things expected, followed by great disappointment and shame. A rookie phenom that completely flopped.... and is on his way out the door.

Narrow code-warring aside, Garzik is not ideologically aligned Team Cypherpunk.  He's retweeting hand-waving "Why won't Someone do Something" posts in favor of grabbing guns.

Not a True Libertarian confirmed.   Tongue

While I'm also "not a true Libertarian" myself, Jeff is obviously a little bit confused about which country he lives in and it's culture. Other gun cultures do not have the same problems that the USA has, and so their problem isn't as simple as adding further firearms controls; other countries with fewer controls have less (indeed, zero) mass shooting incidents.

So Hearn got banned
Haven't been paying much attention to the dev stuff guess I have no opinion other than dev unity seems low.

Hearn is barely a BTC dev.  His important contributions are miniscule, as he mostly focused on SPV schemes to destroy trustlessness.

Actual dev unity is very high, especially after all the team building fun at the #ScalingBitcoin confab.

Gmax might complain about social strokes, but throwing Hearn (and Garzik?) under the bus had the desired salubrious clarifying effects.

It's just name recognition
Hearn is one of those devs you hear a lot about along with Gavin, Maxwell etc.
I'll believe you though Ice on unity.

Believe github. He's not contributed much to the Bitcoin codebase, and the other devs complain that they had to tidy up his bugs after him.

justified.  looks like nothing but combative ranting instead of technical discussion.  reason hearn should listen to:

18:27   jgarzik   hearn, and that has nothing to do with list admin
18:27   wumpus   anyhow, please get a room for the meta-level discussion, it is off-topic here. This channel is about bitcoin core development and nothing more.

...

18:28   jgarzik   hearn, list admins were going to be me, btcdrak, and a couple others, don't recall who. the idea is __not__ the same set of bitcoin.git commiters but mix it up.

...

18:29   jgarzik   sipa is lead developer Smiley
18:29   wumpus   then take the hint, and take this away from here
18:29   jgarzik   wumpus is lead merger Smiley

...

18:31   wumpus   and stop this personal talk about me.

...

18:37   wumpus   he's welcome back if he just starts talking about development, instead of questioning the project all the time

Other gun cultures do not have the same problems that the USA has, and so their problem isn't as simple as adding further firearms controls; other countries with fewer controls have less (indeed, zero) mass shooting incidents.

Almost as bad as the hostility to liberty in Garzik's retweet was its atrocious misuse of statistics.  It seems he shares the congenital predilection of Gavinistas for misleading the public.

The USA is an enormous multicultural society, with vastly differing levels of appreciation for cultural innovations like impulse control and delayed gratification.  My extended family has always had and always will have beaucoup guns, but (outside of game warden, etc. LEO duties) never used them against anything larger than water moccasins.  Somehow, despite near-constant fussing and fighting, we manage to not shoot each other.   I think teaching our kids 'stick-and-stones' instead of 'physically attack if offended' may have something to do with that.  Cheesy

It takes an especially hypocritical kind of coward to demand/imply such guns should be taken, but that Someone Else do it (and Faster, Please!)

There is a parallel to XT here.  Everyone expected everyone else to go first, so nothing happened.  It's easy to suggest Someone Else incur the risks of being the first to defect from Core/grab guns.  Actually doing so is another matter entirely, as Galvin and Heam have recently discovered.

I think Hearn has contributed a lot in the past and the Lighthouse stuff is interesting but at some point he started acting as if he had an agenda to stabilize core and get his own hard fork as the main Bitcoin only because he would be pissed off at his BIPs not being passed.

Good, the sooner we can sweep this XT rubbish under the carpet the sooner we can move forward.
Hearn will be fine, he can continue with his disruptive altcoin rubbish away from us.

So, what really happens if Mike doesn't (H)earn?

Well, if you've been paying attention to those disc covers I linked to in the post earlier and the ones just recently in my post above, you will begin seeing the big picture!

It turns out that "dj (B)A-BACK" and "Lightning (Networks err...) Records" (records is what networks are dealing with anyways) might wanna take the lead and save the "Blue Planet". Now, I didn't know that Adam was a dj (I mean, who could of guessed), but considering his CEO position, he may as well be fairly suitable for this role.

I guess, we should all rally behind Adam's Back! Cheesy
