Hi everybody,

I'm considering getting me an s7 as they're really cheap now, but with my high electricity rate I'd be operating at a loss.

Isn't there anyway to underclock it to get a better effisciency? Has anyone tried that?

Cheers

you could underclock it to a point. but you get to a point where hw errors will prevent you from going any lower. leaving a blade unplugged might save more power vs underclocking.

Have you tested this?
Could you obtain a better effisciency this way?

no one has demonstrated what you ask.

My batch 2 miner is a really good one.   I can get it to do .239 to .243 watts per gh with underclock to freq 550 using a titanium evga 1600 t2 psu

A batch  8-14 will do .3 watts at freq 700   my guess is if you drop it to freq 550 lower fan speed to 2500- 3000 rpm  you will approach .26 or .27 watts a gh.

As to true under volt under clock    say volts of 11.5 and freq of 500 not sure what will happen.

How bad is your power cost ?   15 cents  (USA cents)  a kwatt or higher  is not worth doing.

it's worse than that, it's floating between .20 to .30usd...

I run an s5 for fun but the s7 would cost me 250usd a month to run (in loss)

I guess I have to wait for he BF chips, if they ever make it to the open market

I'm going to simplify your concerns. You can't make it cost effective. The end.

You could try using a PSU that would feed undervolted wattage. Underclocking would not increase efficiency. Undervolting would, but there's not much information at all on how low we're able to bring the S7 down to.

Even if you could do it nicely, it would not be cost effective for the hash AND even if you brought down the S7 magically to .2, you would still not be able to profit.

Your only hope to profit would be hosted solution at 0.05$/kWh or less, right now with the poor profitability of S7s.
