Antminer S5 Hashes for 60 seconds and then stops...

Hello all,

I have a Bitmain Antminer S5 that hashes properly for 1-2 minutes. Once it reaches it's maximum hash rate it stops hashing and begins beeping. There is plenty of power and a fan is connected to the PCB controller board and shows 1,680rpm. Temperatures are in the mid-60's. It has a constant internet connection and I can see the 1-2 minutes of mining in the pool.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this before? Any recommendations?

Hmm. Mid 60 is a bit high, its probably unlikely but it would do that if it was overheating, but it should probably resume later on.

I'd try with a different PSU to be sure its not the PSU failing.

Then i would run it one board at a time to see if its a board or the controller. Assuming its not the PSU.

Drop freq to 250 if it works a long time your psu may be the issue

If it goes to 65 temp and shuts down quickly I would think you have a bad board.

I tested each of the boards individually and the beeping continued to happen. However, I changed the fan with an extra PWM I had lying around and the beeping has now stopped.

Not sure why the original fan would cause that, however everything seems to be working well now. Thanks!

The S5 has protection if it cannot read the RPM it stop the miner from mining for protection. But its something you usually notice when you monitor the temps and RPM.

But it looks at the "FAN 1" connector only. If you have a single fan if you plug it into "FAN-2" and leave "FAN-1" with nothing connected it will go into safety mode after so many seconds. Just tried it on my S5 and that's what it did on mine don't hold me to anyone elses.

Just make sure there is a fan connected to FAN-1.

I always use two fans but I make sure the fan closest to the controller board is plugged into fan 1.

Yes that is correct, but that is not what the OP was experiencing, since the miner would hash for a while. If no fan is connected it go strait into beep mode after it finish booting up and read the Fan Speed.

But its possible that the Fan has a defective circuit. Which is kinda odd that it would fail after 60-120 seconds.

He should try another fan plugged into FAN-1 Just to rule out a fan problem, Then he should try using a STATIC IP in the network settings on his miner just to make sure that his router is not changing his IP to one that makes his connection drop out and start beeping this way it will rule that possibility out as well. Just a thought.
