It means nothing other than the coin's developers filled out the necessary paperwork and submitted a PR on GitHub. Any coin can be added to Azure and Azure will add any coin. It can be useful for developers who use Azure, but isn't anything like partnering with Microsoft as some coins have disingenuously claimed:

Is it so easy to get a new coin listed in Azure. I thought MS is a little bit more picky that that.
At least you need have some originality, can not simply copy paste exiting coin and then change its name.
The first coin got list in Azure was exciting, but when more and more coins added, people are numb to this news now.

Regarding the both posts before mine, I agrre to both. Adding to azure means nothing for the coin, but it is not so easy to get listed on azure as beleived.

A t the moment, adding to azure does only mean to make profit, because most likely all added coins wil be pumped for short.

Dude, I wonder what you would think of SEC guidelines if this is your idea of not easy--

"[–]fluffyponyzaXMR Core Team 11 points 1 day ago

None of the above.

We contacted them, they told us what we needed to do. It basically consisted of signing a Contributor License Agreement, submitting a PR to the Azure templates Github repo, and sending them a write-up. Took us like 3 or 4 hours:)

All the altcoins saying that Microsoft is "partnering" with them are being disingenuous - you are a partner inasmuch as you have a BizSpark account and signed a CLA.

The upshot of this, however, is that developers that are already using Azure can build applications on top of the Monero blockchain, and are able to spin nodes up quickly and easily."

That means nothing. By opting in on Azure now they have some easy to deploy development platform templates. So if someone want to develop something for these coins they can have a node on Azure in minutes what will surely work. If someone want to run a node there that's also possible.

The short and sweet answer is that it means next to nothing. It is mainly used as a tool for pumping to create a spike of 100-500% and take some profits (value can remain higher after it), other than that there isn't really a need for it.

It's usually used for one reason..
So the people behind a scammy coin can say --MICROSOFT IS USING OUR COIN--

And since people are stupid it actually works!

It's called being scammy in a creative way LOL
I give them props for making up that deception hahahah

And don't believe me?
Then go search Polonibox with keyword Microsoft..

http://www.polonibox.com/?messageText=Microsoft

By the way i predicted on Poloniex chat and on IRC man many many months before..
That once the scammy *angle* worked on idiots with ETH it would spread like a plague to other coins.
I have both of my predictions saved and logged far in advance because i know everything Wink

Enjoy some Poloniex chat comment examples..
Enjoy the verbal diarrhea from these deceitful scammy losers preying on the stupid LOL
And these are a random sampling off the many comments.. you think this is lots? you ain't seen nothing!

So i have been looking for my own comments on this but i am still on the 3rd month of 2016 on the Polonibox log
page 25 and i made my comments months ago prob end of 2015'ish some time..
get it ?
I would be surfing another 100 full pages of lying scammy little assholes running their mouth.
Just so i can show you all the 1 scammy little asshole prick who started it all.

Wow, Thank you guys all for sharing your opinions:

Well if  Azure cloud computing platform will be used to blockchains many services can be added in the future, however  some questions could be answered yet.

According information dated of Feb 9 2016:

Microsoft's director of technology strategy of Microsoft:

"We want, and frankly our customers want, access to every blockchain. It could be two guys in a garage that forked bitcoin and had this genius idea and people want to try that out. We don’t want to have any barriers. We’re open to all. We help even the smallest of players onboard."

"We don’t want to have any barriers."

Agreed & neither do we.. the more scammy IPO coins the better!

http://www.coindesk.com/need-altcoins-can-get/

Hey a vague endorsement with a fleeting half ass bullshit reason to compromise your reputation and integrity all in the name of a buck $ ?
Sounds like MS is REALLY getting on-board with the spirit of Altcoins LOOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Is MS vetting any projects or checking them to see if they are a scam?
FUCK NO.
All they give a shit about is bringing in more monthly Azure HOSTING service fee's.. oh Microsoft how "Crypto" of you  Cheesy

Hey i counted 7,000+ coins already.. clearly this is nowhere near enough according to Microsoft IBM Coindesk etc.
What we REALLY need is 14,000 !!!!!

TAKE MY GOD DAMN FUCKING MONEY NOW !!!!

sorry correction.. Bitcoin

What have we learned?
If exchanges are on-board pushing IPO shitcoins then Microsoft wants a piece of the action too.

Luckily for Microsoft i had already lost 100% of any shred of respect i had for that gay shit hole dead company.
They have not done anything useful relevant interesting or even vaguely good in a decade.
These are the douche bags that made Windows 10 ..nuff said.

Azure is a hosting service.. confused still?

I think the game is up now, Azure bounces will be much smaller and more controlled.
Really the first few were the big ones, or very small coins being added.

The next moves will be banks ro big companies testing out blockchains, that should help Ether or other smart contract basis coins

Smiley  I think that this description is better:

Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform and infrastructure created by Microsoft for building, deploying, and managing applications and services through a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters.

It provides both PaaS and IaaS services and supports many different programming languages, tools and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.

Azure was announced in October 2008 and released on 1 February 2010 as Windows Azure, before being renamed to Microsoft Azure on 25 March 2014.[1] Along with Amazon Web Services, Azure is considered a leader in the IaaS field

NEM devs actually pulled their application to be listed on Azure as it involves giving up global rights

http://blog.nem.io/status-on-the-azure-project/

Interesting especially this part:

NEM would like to announce that it has no intention to get itself listed in Azure for free like the rest of the other projects, unless MS waives that agreement, for which if they are sincere, they should. Instead NEM will investigate a paid addition to Azure, achieving the same goal for a cost but keeping our full rights.
