I usually just do a quick google search for a rough estimate and have around $2.5+- as for margin of errors. Whenever I feel the need for a high accuracy check, I do check the price at coinbase like when I'm going to do a transaction or something.

Strictly out of habit I go to coinbase as it is also a great spot to find the latest news that I would not come across in other areas, unless I look in the press sub forum.
Used to use btc-e for a quick gauge of the price but no longer as they track in American dollars and there is a significant difference with the Canadian dollar right now.
