hi,

i'm trying to get some help setting up bitcoin on my home wlan.

i'm a bitcoin confused <see what i did there?  Cool  about the architecture and so-forth. perhaps you can point me to the resources i need to get up to speed.

otherwise i am looking to run bitcoind on a debian server facing the internet using the example here...

http://bealers.com/2012/01/installing-bitcoin-on-debian-squeeze/

which i think came off your board. i have installed the backport package just as he did which is why i chose to use this example.

specifically the issue i am having trouble with is the line "CHUID=user:group". i am not sure what i should change this to. i presume that i should create a bitcoin group, then replace <group> with the name of the bitcoin group and then add my user account to that group. and this is where i run into the trouble. i have never created groups or managed them before.

and then after i get this issue with setting up the groups resolved? i should run a client on some other machine?

please advise.

thank you.

Please don't use that version. It is ridiculously out of date and doesn't even support encrypted wallets. Uninstall it, and either install it from sid (not squeeze-backports), or from the tarball at bitcoin.org.
