I have recently tried some softwares for mining, i found some, but none of them worked me out when tried to configure with stratum protocol to connect it to a pool, I am behind a proxy, which i dont control, i guess that is the reason. But reading here some posts i have seen few comments that software mining is not worth it, i was trying to do it on my laptop(my baby girl) and I read that could decrease the time of life of my laptop. So i wanted to know if it is worth it or not.

Don't waste time trying to mine Bitcoin (or any other coin using the SHA256 algorythm) on a computer.

Even a high-end machine is SO FAR BEHIND on efficiency compared to the ASIC available as to be definitve money-losers.

Trying to mine on a laptop is a very good way to destroy that laptop quickly, in almost all cases - Laptops are NOT designed to operate at high load factors 24/7 as mining imposes on machines.

Using the Laptop as a USB host controller for something like  theAntminer U2 or Gridseed "Orb" / "Blade" type units where the actual MINING is done on the ASIC is a different story - that puts a very low load on the computer running the control software.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

no it is not worth it
sha 256 mining is done by high speed ASICS-specially constructed, usually stand alone, machines that don't require a PC connected to operate
altcoin mining can still be done with GPU cards, although it is almost unprofitable at the moment
but if you plan to mine with your laptop, simply forget about it- electricity cost and wear of your laptop will cost much more than the coins you will be able to mine

This question comes up frequently and it has been adequately answered so I'm locking this thread.
