As everyone had known, China shut down mining in the middle of 2021. Hashnest stopped paying by there. They promised to buy back hashrate, but only a few types. And today when I checked they closed their site. Gone with people hashrate. The investors lost their money including me, I'm seeking help. Hashnest was formed by Bitmain but they sold them. Is there any way to force them to pay back the money they took from us?

For the first time I heard about them if my memory is correct. It seems to me a cloud mining platform, am I wrong? If someone is really into mining then just buy hardware and assemble them. These days we do not hear about many cloud mining platforms but few years ago those scammers were very active.

Anyway, whatever it is, how much did you lose?

Everything has a price. Consider this as the experience you bought.

Yes it is a cloud mining service. I lost around 0.5 BTC. I can see people yelling on their Twitter/Facebook, I trusted them because they WERE owned by Bitmain. And later I realized Bitmain was no longer affiliate with Hashnest. Such a terrible moment

Hashnest was formed by Bitmain but they sold them.
This should have been an immediate red flag, but I am sure even after realising this investors could do nothing to salvage the rest of the assets spent on mining contracts there.

Cloud mining sites are always going to scam its investors, this is a fact and this should be understood by every user here. Whether someone supports them or not, is a personal choice, does not mean that the project is going to turn legit.

If the people behind the scam can be identified. But let me remind you that this is not the first cloud mining scam and very few have actually been caught in real after extensive legal work.

Be careful of fake people trying to collect money in the name of legal proceedings for this scam - they might themselves be scamming you. Only do this if the group is known to you in real life. This type of "scamming the scammed person" scam has also been common among the victims of cloud mining scams.

Such a huge amount to "invest" on to a cloud mining site even if it were legit. I doubt if you would make that much returns while risking all that amount. A better way would have been buying some good GPUs and then mine some Ethereum or other profitable coins during that time.I am sure you woulkd have made a kill.

Is there any proof or article to show that hashnet was sold off by Bitmain? I don't seem to see any information

Considering the price of BTC this is a good amount you lost.
I have seen many fake websites to use the name of Bitmain and later they were caught as scammers. Not really sure what happen in your case that if indeed they were owned by Bitmain. I am wondering why would Bitmain would need a cloud mining business at all?

Is 0.5 BTC that you invested with them or is the profits that I got? If profits are impossible to obtain with cloud mining, which means that you have been scammed, but if you had invested in them, this money was enough for you to buy some mining hardware at the present time.

Anyway they have a long scam reports here ---> https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.hashnest.com so it seems a legitimate company in the past that turned into scammers

This is a very serious issue. I Don't know why Scammers used different approach and methods to Target their victims and they (victims) fall well anytime when Scammers lunch a site.

There is always a way to force them pay you back but just that process is cumbersome which might lose money the more again. There are procedures to follow.
1. Economic and Financial Crime Commission. Meet this agency in your country or State or Province and give the complain. Although Countries are differs, they might collect money from you to start the tracking. And you have to give this agency every Necessary information about the site.
2. If you know their physical office, you can go there with police and make some arrest.
I am really sorry for what happened. Scamming now has come to stay with us in the society, so it is our duty to be careful and vigilant to the kind of site we invest our money. That is why I always ask questions now before investing.

That is big capital you lost there. 0.5 btc is over $20,000 at the current price and it is not funny losing that kind of money. When I read that people invest that big online i feel they are taking unnecessary risks because that amount can be easily lost and that is what we have seen here too.

There is always a way to force them pay you back but just that process is cumbersome which might lose money the more again.

That is the problem and that makes it look like victims do not want to go on chasing those who scam them. They do not want to waste money or be scammed again by those who will promise to help them catch the scammers but in true sense of it are only after their money too.

I took research about Bimain/Hashnest before investing. And it was the most trusted cloud mining existing, but sad thing turned into a bad way

From what I could find on the web, HashNest was founded in 2013 by Bitmain, and they were probably one of the few legit cloud mining platforms. Otherwise, I doubt they would have survived so long in the market. It is unfortunate that their government has decided to ban mining in China, but I do not think it is HashNest's fault.

According to their announcements, termination of agreements and redemptions have been open since August last year.
https://support.hashnest.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404299214105-Announcement-183-Termination-of-Agreements-and-Redemption-Open-

OP, why have you waited so long? You should have sold your shares by now.

I am not disputing the fact that Bitmain owned hashnet cloud mining platform. I know it is true as there is a lot of overwhelming evidence showing the connection between the two. What I was looking for is the news to prove that Bitmain sold off Hashnet at some point, as you stated in the OP.

What I was looking for is the news to prove that Bitmain sold off Hashnet at some point, as you stated in the OP.

Someone has asked about it. No proof was provided but I don't think they would lie about this since they were one of hashnest's victims.

I have already written to bitmain repeatedly and they deny they have relationship with hashnest.  They say they have "separated" from hashnest, that they are different entities, that I am complaining with the wrong company and that they can't help me.

Strangely, only one news outlet has mentioned it, which is South China Morning Post

...Hashnest, a cloud-based mining platform, is no longer a Bitmain subsidiary but an external project funded by it.

A month after that, there was an interview from Hashnest CEO where it he implied the parting ways

CAILU: Hashnest was founded in 2013 and is a cloudmining platform under Bitmain. Can you briefly tell us the birth of Hashnest and your plans for it?

ROB: Hashnest was initially known as Snowball.io and was nothing more than an exchange. It was only later it became a cloudmining company. In 2014 I got to know Wu Jihan, and the company was officially bought over by Bitmain in July. We rebranded it to “Hashnest” and swiftly it was launched in September.

It has been over 6 years since the creation of this company. Our users have also been rapidly increasing; we have over 320K users now!

This year, we decided to become independent from Bitmain....

Overall, I believe this should be enough to back OPs claim.

<...>
Thanks, that was the confirmation I was looking for.

I have never used the platform, but I did see they still have an option for someone to register, which I think could mean they still accept users to make payment? (Someone, please help confirm.)

If they still accept funds. Should the Bitmain account that started the thread be flagged/Tagged?

Good find @Potato Chips

If they still accept funds. Should the Bitmain account that started the thread be flagged/Tagged?
I am not sure whey would Bitmain account be tagged. If they are no longer with Bitmain then the are no connection left. As they are independent, any action should go against them only. Or may be I am missing a point from you.

I have never used the platform, but I did see they still have an option for someone to register, which I think could mean they still accept users to make payment? (Someone, please help confirm.)

Just checked and they do! In fact, there's still a raffle going on... wth

I'm guessing logfiles wanted a more visible warning in the hashnest thread which was unfortunately started by bitmain. But yeahhh tagging bitmain would be unfair to them, I share the same thoughts.

Potato Chips is right, My main aim is to help warn the newbies and guest users who might be looking for a clouding mining site. Given that, Bitmain is a popular mining gear manufacturer. Newbies wouldn't twice to join Hashnet if they came across the ANN because of Bitmain's popularity.

The problem is Bitmain has been inactive here since 2019 and there is no way to get them to delete the ANN or edit it atleast.

They did, but not all kinds of hash rates, there were only a few with a small number of shares every day, then they stopped. My S19 hash rate was never on the buying list. Their last announcement was 6 September anyway
