Hi,

I want to dabble in mining other crypto-currencies like light coin etc...ones that are easier to mine and require less expensive hardware.
Just wondering what peoples opinions are on what would be the cheapest noob mining set up - nothing fancy. Pretty much just want a second hand desktop type of thing but need to know specs.

The cost of electricity doesn't really bother me - more just wanting to know about equipment required.
Not too phased about hash rate or whatever that is either...kinda just want a foot in the door - can always upgrade later.

Thank you kindly Smiley

And just mine with 1 card and a 750W PSU instead of 3 cards and a 1250W PSU

Thanks pjviitas that looks perfect! Except I don't have a cheeky $700 (ish) lying around unfortunately Sad
I'm thinking more like a $100 second hand computer off gumtree and putting a good enough graphics card in. I don't mind if it takes me 2 weeks to get a couple of lite coins at this stage just want to have a go.
Is this feasible or will I burn my house down.
Thanks Smiley

best thing you can buy, is a wattmeter (~15USD /10€).
It will show you if mining is worth or not.
In Germany GPU mining is impossible (0 or minus income)

Take a look at this list and get whatever card you can afford that does the most kH/s giving weight to newer lines when possible.  I wouldn't put a 4xxx series card in anything at this point, but some of the 5xxx, 6xxx or 7xxx lines should get you something.  As a hobby it is kind of fun to let a couple coins build up Smiley

best of luck!

i didnt checked it, but keep in mind that everytime the price rises more user came to the game so it is very likly that the difficulty had risen very high. So the profit-ratio should be the same like in the past.

My tip for you is, try first with one card + wattmeter, test out different pools (the winnings have huge differences!!)
and different coins (+ Multicoinpools).

Also see it as riskinvestment, it works only if your current costs equal or less than 0.20€ / 0.27$ per Kilowatt.
When it doesnt work for you it is esier to sell 1 card on ebay, than a dozen :-).

i would also recommend than when you wnat to build a mining gpu rig, by a card where you can buy watercooling.
Watercooling is much more less noisy and you can direct the heat to another place if needed.
it costs 30% more, but it is it worth when you run more than one card.
