Desktop / Gaming GPU vs Workstation GPU in mining

Which is more suitable for mining, Desktop / Gaming GPU or Workstation GPU? Which is a better investment?

Desktop / Gaming GPU: optimized for gaming, good at peak performance, price is cheaper for the same performance but reliability is lower, reliably drops if running at peak rate for extended time.

Workstation GPU: optimized for 3D rendering / CAD / scientific applications, more durable, can run at peak rate for days without error, much more expensive for the same performance, but better reliability.

How about their efficiency in running different crypto algorithms, and in terms of hash rate / power consumption?

GPUs designed for gaming have typically been better at mining as far as hashrate goes. Once you factor in the higher cost of professional GPUs they are not a very attractive option  from a miner's perspective.

Workstation gpu is not more reliable than gaming gpu. They just have different components that favour the type of work needed.

Gaming gpu is generally better than workstation gpu. If you take account the price it's hands down easy to choose the 1080ti.

Well, you can't blame gamers to become mad at miners as they are to be blamed for graphics cards big price increase we are experiencing these days. And not only price increase but shortage, or short supply reportedly due to miners buying-frenzy (mostly in bulk) to build mining rigs.

You must analise the ROI, i guess that gaming gpu is better for mining.
In my country i built my mining rig with 8x AMD RX less than $3000 and my country everything is expensive.
With this rig i can mine 230mh/s(ethhash), 6200h/s(cryptonight) and i didnt fine tune yet.
