My USB erupter isn't working right.

Two of my USB erupters isn't working properly. In cgminer I get the message "USB:AMU1 read1 buffering 4 extra bytes" Another one of my USB erupters is always having the green light on and I get like 200 something hw errors in a couple of seconds so I think that one is completely broken.  I think it was because my fan cooling them broke so I'm guess one of them is broken and the other damaged.

Also I don't seem to be getting any work when raspberry pi w/minepeon  but when I have it connected my windows desktop I'm am getting work.

Have you tried not using a USB hub? Try direct plugging? Bad quality USB hubs can cause a number of errors.

Hmm I guess it is the hub, I just connected the one I thought was broken directly to my computer and it was working. So whats causing my raspberry to not receive work. Four of them were receiving work when connected to my windows desktop.  When connected to my raspberry pi it doesn't get any work when its receiving jobs from  btcguild and one erupter gets work when its receiving jobs from slush's pool. Is that still the hubs fault?

Usually its the USB hub problem, the way USB hub was design is assuming you are not using all of it at full load.

Its amazing what a good USB hub can do. When I upgraded from this generic usb hub > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303833.msg3251989#msg3251989 to the Anker 10 port. Suddenly all of my problems (ie: the buggy behavior, hardware errors, etc etc) disapeared. I hypothesized that the generic hub was not giving enough power to my BE's but even running 2 BE's they were showing the same behavior. Good luck!

RPi is picky w/ USB hubs, so make sure it's a supported hub (ie has a supported USB controller chipset).  You'll have to look elsewhere for this info, I don't ahve a RPi.

On a side note, most USB hubs will work fine as long as there is enough power.  Many USB hubs will NOT supply adequate power for more than 1 or 2 USB erupters.  The only thing I've found expensive USB hubs do better is supply adequate power.  Cheap 10-port $8 ebay hubs work fine, as long as you use 18ga wiring and connect it to a stable 5v power supply.

Hmmm the one I picked wasn't a generic cheapo one on ebay. I even made sure to pick one the one raspberry pi compatibility page and buy it from Amazon. This probably only started recently and I haven't had problems for 4 months with my current hub, but if it solves my problems I'll get another one.

the best hub so far for mining on all platforms looks like the dlink 7 hub, good price and works with the pi as most miners are switiching to these hub as they can run 5-6 block erupters

dam it... I bought a 10 port usb hub and its not working only 3 erupters are working on my windows 7 and one on my RPi... Okay its dlink 7 hub it now.

I dont want to state the obvious but Ive noticed with the cheap china ebay hubs that their solder points are crap. some port are soldered better then others. I contribute this to the high hardware error rates Ive gotten on these. Its like the 3A power adapters are worth more then the hubs them selves.

Sweet, not sure if you were trying to say I should change my power adapter, but once I changed the adapter all my erupters on my rpi are working. Thanks mobile.

Wow, this is great news! I was not directly stating that changing the power adapter but cheap hubs as a whole being troublesome. Interesting to hear this solved your problem. I guess it was not suprise me. A bad power adapter would be feeding "dirt power" to your hub. I mean we can get technical with it as power supplies can dictate the Sine wave, etc etc or better stated need to produce a specific Sine wave of electricity. Cheers!

Agreed the D-Links work great and have suitable power, don't' use the cheap knockoffs, they will fail.

It's not uncommon for these usb power supplies to fail to put out the rated amperage.  I had a 2.5 amp D-Link only put out 1.5a, it would run 3 asic's but not 4.  I bought a 10 amp import ps that ran 10 sticks for a week then dropped back to 6. 

I now have 8 of the Rosewill rhb-520's, they come with a 4 amp psu and can run 8 sticks and a arctic fan, I like to run 1 less stick to give the hub some head room.  25 sticks in 4 rosewill hubs gives me a full 333mh/s per stick.  Bfgminer has had good up times, 3 days or more before I'm screwing with it and end up restarting the miner.  2 Pi's running Minepeon 2.4 and bfgm, pool reports 16.7gh/s.  Rejects under 0.3% and HW errors under 0.7%.

I'm hoping to get my modified atx psu to out put it's rated 5v 36 amps so I can power all my hubs and run 8 sticks in each, 32 total sticks times 2 mines, I'll need 32 amps.  That may be pushing the psu a bit.
