Being an excited noob about the world of bitcoin I typically encounter the same reaction when talking to people unfamiliar with the movement

"sounds like its just used for buying drugs"

Slightly defeated on the inside at their brushing off of what I consider to be a brilliant alternative to the fiat currencies that rule today's markets, I'm curious as to what will bring BTC into legitimacy? Retailers have started accepting them, but even if that trend continues I feel as though there will need to be a big change to shake the drug stigma. Thoughts?

How many drug dealer have been caught using bitcoins verses caught using dollars? Did we ban dollars?

When the Internet was invented, politicians wanted to ban it because a few people did illegal porn.

When MP3 was created the music industry wanted to ban it because a few people did illegal copying.

When video tape recorders were created the movie industry wanted to ban them.

Cars are used to commit drug crimes all the time should we ban them too?

They're just tools. You can use almost any tool to commit a crime.

That stigma is wearing off after the collapse of SR and the move towards legitimate options by retailers and individuals

Once drugs become legal, hopefully, this won't be that big of a stigma.  Wink

Marijuana looks like it's finally going see full legalization in the States eventually.

I definitely think it is the future for payments for retailers.  Many retailers today are getting screwed over by the Credit Card companies and processors for the fees that are incurred, sometimes up to 5% of a transaction for certain Visa Cards.

I think we can see that retailers, especially small merchants, having been moving away from this and moving to newer technologies like Square and iZettle where they can process the transactions at very little fees.

Being able to process BTC transactions with virtually no fees is a huge win for retailers.  I expect more and more of them to start accepting BTCs and hope this trend can continue.

It is interesting from where this image if drug-currency come from?
I think payment system in which you can trace all the payments are not very useful for drug-traders.
How people unfamiliar with the BTC movement can think that BTC just used for buying drugs if they don't know nothing about BTC?
I think it is black PR.
