Does this https://cablesaurus.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=21&zenid=586d1fca4c32c89a336471627aa1df35 mean that I can take my P4 Dell or AMD (whatever) and stick a 5870 inside?

I believe so. You might want to do some research on PCI revisions, and voltages supplied to the PCI slots, etc. If your boards PCI specs match those of the newer ones, I believe you should be fine. I'm out of the loop on old hardware though.

See the thread below. It may work, but you will need to add a molex connector to get more power to the GPU. Also, the adapter from cablesaurus is overpriced

It's all about the game, and how you play it

You also will need to take into considerating the older power supply, many of them do not provide sufficent amperage on the 12 volt line for the more powerful pci express cards because they conform to the older atx standards even if they're rated for xxx watts, any good power supply will have it's load capacites labled clearly on the side of it in a fashion similar to this

Due to inefficies of the netburst arcitecture, and dells usage of propriatairy power supplies in some models i would generally advise p4 at all and p4 dell especially

"If we don't hang together, by Heavens we shall hang separately." - Benjamin Franklin

If you found that funny or something i said useful i always appreciate spare change
