Bitcoin and Litecoin. I wouldn't invest in any other coin IMHO.

Realistically, I don't see most of the altcoins ever gaining much ground. People don't want to have to keep up with 100+ different coins. Bitcoin will always be the standard with Litecoin as it's little brother. You might see some of the other coins like NMC and PPC in the future, but I doubt a lot of these other coins will last.

Nothing is worth investing in right now. Though if I had to name something, it'd be Datacoin, but even that is risky.

Quark or Dogecoin right now.

Both are going to raise and Doge is still worth mining.

I would invest in MEC (megacoin).

I also have quark and a couple of others... Mec has had the most stable growth and contrary to what some say it was not pre mined and the ownership is spread out among many.

quark for example has a few people holding vast amounts of coins, I expect that to crash soon. these guys will want their millions.

Mega-coins developer also invented the gravity well which helps a lot if people with large pools try to manipulate price by pulling out after putting loads of power into mining it (from what I understand), this technology has also been adopted by anoncoin.

Though Bitcoin and litecoin are the most popular. You are less likely to see hundreds of % in growth...

check out coinmarketcap.com to keep en eye out on the growth of the top altcoins...

Disclaimer; i am no expert just my observations.

With only $100, go with iXcoin.  iXcoin has been around since early 2011.  For that entire time, it has actually stayed constant relative to BTC.  In otherwords, relative to the USD, it has increased just like Bitcoin.   However, it is only 15 cents, so your $100 can get you over 600 coins!!!

Furthermore, unlike most all other coins, the network is secure since big bitcoin pools also support IXC.

It depends how risky you want to get:
- Bitcoin, if you don't want to lose the 100 bucks and hold for a long time.
- if you want to gamble and massive growth, just buy bitcoin, upload it to Cryptsy, then watch coinmarketcap all day long and when a new coin pops up, buy as fast as you can and sell of with 500% profit 3 days later.   Grin

First I only got Bitcoins. Then I wanted Primecoins, so I got to btc-e. PPC followed (had LTC, too, but sold them all). Then I thought: Hm, the altcoins are rising fast. So I invested in them, too. Megacoin, Worldcoin, Quarkcoin (before the still report).

So to buy Ixcoin and sell them, you have to buy btc anyway. So with Ixcoin you make the same profit minus fee of trading.
