They're making a sad story out of this, rambling how he suffered and how inhumane the execution was. I guess it wasn't painless for his victim. The guy should be happy he wasn't burned at stake, impaled, or given up to that girl's family. Hi might've ended like that:

I personally don't even believe using the death penalty is just. Yes, the guy was a sad excuse for a human being, but killing him or making him suffer like that won't change anything: she will still be dead, and others will still do the same thing. We should focus on how we can prevent this from happening again.

Prison officials gave intravenous doses of two drugs, the sedative midazolam and the painkiller hydromorphone, to put McGuire to death for the 1989 rape and fatal stabbing of a pregnant newlywed, Joy Stewart. Sounds like a luxurious way to die. I wish I could be so lucky, but I haven't raped or murdered anyone.

Why would you americans pay for his food and lodging for all these years, just to kill him now? Once a person has been found guilty and there is zero chance of error (like DNA matching), I say put the person to death within the week. Don't spend any money on him. Only then does the killing of a person make sense.

The problem is with the death sentence that Americans refuse to understand is that killing someone could end up being one of the worst mistakes of your life, think about how many corrupted cases we've had where we've had actually innocent people thrown in jail only to get a half-assed apology afterwards and no compensation for all the time they took away from that persons life? We've seen the way filesharers get treated for instance, these guys just uploaded a file to the internet and they're getting far more jail time than murderers and rapists ever do, what if suddenly they expanded all crime to have a potential death sentence attached? You may think it's awesome at first but just wait until it happens to somebody you know or even you get put in jail and you're potentially on death row.
I've seen some particularly shitty judgements about people on this board and even just on this thread where people are jumping to conclusions left and right and think that the time should be shortened before you execute somebody. I think I'd gladly be called a criminal in such a society because whenever the Americans in particular get together on something and decide that somebody has to die it's always based on flimsy logic and guess work rather than solid facts.
You only need to look at Iraq and Afghanistan to know I'm right because it's the exact same thing when it comes to declaring wars and commanding the military.

Hopefully such an era is coming to an end with the cheap and readily available DNA matching. Killing someone in the name of justice only makes sense if you are 100% sure.

There are fates worse than death, with fMRI and DNA evidence, toss them in arctic/desert labor camps where they have no chance of escaping and returning to society alive.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

I appreciate your sentiment, but in this case the accused offered up a myriad of knowledge about the case that NOBODY else in the public was aware, ergo admitting to the crime. Instead of killing him, they could have put he inside one of these things for life, serving him spaghetti daily on a fixed plate attached to a scale. As the plate gets lighter, the carnival rides starts moving, reaching full speed for a two minute duration once the plate is emptied. Yes, I'm aware that at some point the spag would fly off the plate, thus he better eat fast. BTW, it should be filmed for a reality show.

To be honest, I'm all for creative punishments that make people think twice without simply just killing them, I for instance don't have too much against convict labour, the only trouble is when you have corrupt officials and police taking advantage of that and using it as an excuse to arrest everybody rather than people who commit crimes.
Better to have them go and work and make stuff rather than waste tax payer money, which realistically is all they do if you just shove them in a prison all day.

Well, I suppose if he's dead he won't be able to murder again.. but I'm with you, it won't bring the victim to life but neither will a couple of years in prison.
