Always be honest even if it hurts, lies are hard to keep track of and you can get easily tangled up in shit.. I'm waiting for owlcatz to confirm this and hopefully he will get the full payment for the coin. It is weird that you trusted a newbie with over $2,000. This is literally the opposite behavior that I would expect of any experienced trader. I don't like it when someone fails to honor their obligations, even when they are scamming someone who is part of an extortion conspiracy, but you have to use a little bit of common sense to protect yourself.
