actually nothing is missing, etherscan has the ability to read all ERC20 based coin as well as myetherwallet, but on MEW you have to add new altcoin description like contract addres, decimal etc. the difference is that MEW can do anything like sending coins, while etherscan can only see, such as transaction results and a list of other activities from your wallet, thank you
Agreed. This is a simple and thorough explanation that I agree with. MEW is a wallet that stores all your tokens while Etherscan scans your wallet and displays your token balances. I prefer ethplorer over etherscan though. We have all encountered situations where tokens are displayed in Etherscan or Ethplorer while they seem to be missing in our wallet which is why you need to manually input the details related to the token in order to make it appear.
