And we have seen horror stories of kids being abandoned inside a car in a casino parking lot just for the parents to gamble. So that is not acceptable as a parent. But this individuals judgement are clouded because what they thinking is that they should be gambling regardless if they left their children. That is the worst that a parent can do to their children. If not then they are going to be a bad influence to their kids when you see them always gambling when we are growing up and we could adapt that as well when we became adults. Every gambler has a quite story to tell whether you are an addict or not, the truth is that no amount of story that we will hear or amount of video that we will watch that will change the mindset of most gambling addicts. there is this saying 'that women die during childbirth will not make other women stop from giving birth' which invariably implies that no matter the circumstances that surrounds the stories people must be addicts. The most painful and detrimental effect of gambling addiction is not just financial loss, you lose precious relationships, respect, time and opportunities. Gambling addiction has led so many people to unimaginable loses which only a few recover from, most addicts never repent from their bad characters and such ones are doomed.

I have understood one thing that gambling actually causes not only financial loss in people's lives but also destroys all kinds of mental peace. Gambling hits an important place in people's relationships in addition to financial ruin.  Spending time on gambling alienates family members, forcing them to move away from the relationships that exist between family members. If the father in a family becomes addicted to gambling, then that father cannot give time to the children in the family or even to the wife.  As a result, his relationship with his wife and children suffers a lot, thus the peace and order in a family is destroyed.  Even people gradually lose interest in family and even choose the path of suicide due to mental breakdown. Someone who is addicted to gambling will certainly experience many bad things, such as the person in the video who admitted that they not only lost money but also their relationship was affected and lost a relationship that was previously fine. This is as a result of lack of understanding and greed which some gamblers always think they can always win, and not having understanding that gambling is unpredictable.  Because of the confidence that some gamblers have concerning gambling it has made them to be addicted to gambling, even if they lose they are not bothered. I think at some point, we have friends who really fall for being addicted on gambling, and we have seen what they've been with. It's very hard and we can also imagine what's inside of their minds if they think back on how much money they have lost in gambling and what happens to their lives after that. In your example, it's good that you didn't pressure him to pay you as for for sure he has been paying others as well, in which he prioritized because you as a friend could understand it.

You are correct, relationships are destroyed, worse is divorced if you are married, and then there are a lot of people or institutions going after the gambler because he has a lot of lots to pay, and if he can't worse is that he will take his life.

As what others says, relationships with your families and your friends and then your reputation already damage. And as much as we try to help this kind of people, it's not going to be enough, there could be at least some professional help or betting be going into rehab like one friend that I know and he is totally clean in the last couple of years.
