I’ve never tried to attend any meetup because i don’t want more people to know that I’m using bitcoin. But I experience to attend seminar about cryptocurrency and I think its quiet normal and nothing special to expect for. If its a meetup then expect yourself to introduct into many cryptousers as well.

I am sure that in any country, there is a meet up the crypto community with each other. But unfortunately, many of them are not published their meet up so we cannot know which country that has a big community. I think if we can gather some meet up with other people who get involved in the cryptocurrency, and we publish it in here or another website, cryptocurrency will become popular in our city.

I've had my first ever Blockchain meetup in the magical city Mumbai in 2018 where I met a lot of Bitcoin enthusiasts and even entrepreneurs who were looking to learn more about this technology and few of the Big Business Representatives were also looking for an experienced expert to work with them and help them understand this subject even better and they also wanted to know how they can merge blockchain with their businesses to get out of their current hassles. All in all, it was a great learning experience where they didn't specifically focus on a single thing but included every aspect of Blockchain and cryptocurrencies well presented chapter-wise (I mean topic-by-topic) to make everything easier to be understood by those available there.

If the crypto meet-up ended up a crypto mining-focused meet-up, that is already a good one. If you are in my country and you are invited for a crypto meet-up, you should never go. It is most probably a scam meet-up, wherein guests are asked to invest a good amount of money for a certain coin shittier than the shittiest of all shitcoins, not even listed on the crappiest ranking site. Or worse, you are going to end up in a ponzi scheme meet-up.

What i like about Blockchain meetup is about how the networking provide you so much opportunities ... I mean you'll get a lot of new contacts , get you a business opportunity, connect you with potential business partners and gather your ideas into a real working project.

When Investors, traders, programmers/developers, businessman gather around at the same place/forum with the same vision... a real product invented easily rather than keeping your idea by yourself , do everything by yourself... it won't work.

I have attended several blockchain meetup since 2014 ago , besides level up your knowledge... you'll be know as an early adopter and everyone around you start recognized you as a blockchain guru lol , I still on my way leveling up and yet dumb about how the technical stuff works.

Well, you should definitely expect more of the same. This guy is going to pitch his products for sure(it doesn't matter if it's mining hardware or something else). The main purpose of those meetups is direct marketing and there's nothing wrong with that, unless they promote some scam.
I'm willing to go on more education related crypto meetups, but there aren't any in the country where I live.

Your meet-up simply for this reason was a success, I've had several meet-ups, but they all were on one specific branch of the blockchain technology, it wasn't spread across all the branches of the blockchain technology as well as didn't simplifying everything for bitcoin starters, it's better if the discussions move form the general to the specific.

I'm planning on attending more meet-ups in the coming years, but I must be sure it's one that'll be attended by real bitcoin pros, experts and noobs,so it'll be enlightening and educative. It's usually fun meeting different people who share the same ideology with you.

Meetups can be a lot of fun, don't get discouraged if you don't like your first one though!

It took me a bunch of meetups and conferences until I finally started really enjoying them. You need to be able to quickly filter out the people you definitely don't want to talk to, and focus on the ones that actually add value.

Yes, that's good mate..and that's the one perfect decision to make your own through the road of you're journey. Coz' If we are not try and to test our own strength to face our own incoming future..well it so sad..We must need to put in our own mind that trying is the best key to make our own success in life through the help of bitcoin.

Meetups are the case when quantity goes into quality. The more you visit them, the higher the likelihood of meeting people you need, acquiring useful knowledge. In the end, this is a great pastime. Write further about your meetups, we are very interested!

So after tonight I will hopefully have attended my first Bitcoin meetup, well all crypto likely. It's in nearest large city about 2 hours away and it's taken me nearly 2 years to make it in for 1.

I made a decision about 4 months ago to go to a different groups meetup and that was a mistake. It was more mining focused but they cancelled, left the event advertised, and wasted a good deal of my time lol.

I don't reallly know what to expect, the organizer is actually the guy who sold me my first hardware, always had a good chat with him. So i'm hoping for more or the same.

I'll update on how it goes. Figured I would share, let me know if you've ever attended these types if events, what it was like, the good and the bad

When I started getting acquainted with crypto, I went to training meetups and I got a good experience.
I think it will be interesting about your experience, keep us informed

The main purpose is to meet like minded people and if you are able to stuck a cord anything can happen including sharing of ideas and even starting a company which will serve the void if you find any. Other than that it will be a boring encounter if you are an introvert, they will repeat the same things you know if you are in the market for a long time and will have food and disperse Tongue.
Not bad to experience one in your life time.

Just a quick update, Glad to see this did go the route of decent discussion.
So I made it to the meetup, about 10 minutes late. Nothing better than walking into a room of strangers late, a dozen sets of eyes fixed on you. That's where the awkwardness ended, everyone was friendly made some space and carried on business as usual from what I could tell.
Overall just a group of people talking about all manner of projects, they are either interested in or invested in. Found out there was an attempt at hosting a conference in my Province that has been postponed until June of next year. Met a couple more BTC oldtimers, who had some interesting tales to share.

All in all it was a good time. I'll keep trying to get out to some of these but the bi-weekly meetings but could possibly swing one every 6 weeks or so. It is about a 5 hour round trip, but this stretched into a 3 1/2 hour hangout and chat which was nice. It was good to meet up with some like-minded people and hear some of the different perspectives on things.

I'll read through again later and respond to any questions I missed, when I wake up this evening.

Edit:
What do you expect? Unless you have some project crypto related that you would like to promote, or join, I don't see much of a reason to participate in those meetings. Maybe if someone interesting is going there, such as Vitalik or Antonopoulos or whatever..
Honestly me and crypto reminds me of when I was a skater in my teens and moved to the country. No one cared what I kickflipped, dropped or slid. The internet is great for connecting people but lacks the actual connections. Sometimes on the forum I find it difficult to still treat people like a human being, this way I find it helps with the listening and being open to new ideas. Mostly I'm not the kind of guy to cut you off mid sentence and tell you how stupid your idea is. It's easier to listen for a while and discuss then move on.

where do people find ads for meetups? is there a board/website dedicated to this? the bitcointalk meetup board seems pretty dead.

Meetup.com if you live in any mid-to-large city, or facebook, if you have an account there it might pop up into your suggestions somewhere if fb knows enough about you. Although it must be noted that at this point most meetups you're likely to find aren't going to be exclusively about Bitcoin, often it's about 'blockchain', or cryptocurrencies/tokens in general.

Pretty much nailed it. I just googled crypto meetup and the city name. That's how I found this one on meetup.com, as well as the other one lol. So my advice is to message the admin if you can to make sure it's still on.

I don't know about this meet up in your country, but in my country those meet ups are basically to promote ponzi schemes.
Those ponzi/pyramid may be related to tokens, or exchanges, or arbitrage services (that promise absurd returns everyday) and so on.
While in here, what I see are pure ponzi schemes that include cryptocurrency trading, the idea is people will invest money to them and their team will be the one who will make trading in forex, stock and crypto, and their users were paid on monthly basis. Most schemes are like that, though there are some more legit like on binance meetup and some blockchain expo here, but never tried to attend any of them.

I have had the same experience as you with this meet up in a venue and most people that they have invited were their colleagues, friends and relatives. At first it was interesting to listen to them but when they start to talk about HYIP, i lost my interest of joining this kind of gathering. I just warned most of my friends but some of them are already taken the bait.

meetup.com or evenbrite.com they both is so cool. Im always following for meetup and free information. It's very important to have new knowledge.

so you should go more such activites

Its good that in your city there are meetups and you can go and social with other Bitcoin holder and adopters. In Romania , I'm still waiting for a new meeting to be announced and I think it will come in 2020 as our local board is in a continuous growing in users which is nice to see! There were some meetings here to but you had to pay a lot in order to enter and they were NOT organized by the community and by some international guys who came to promote some projects or some ideas. Personally besides this I would love that in the next year to participate in those meetups in Malta <3.

Mircea Popescu organized at least one meetup in Timisoara, you had to pay but it wasn't that much at the time, IIRC. Meetup.com tells me there are some normal-looking Bitcoin meetups there from time to time.

Hmmm I stopped attending meetups in Eastern Europe for several reasons:

- still too technical and mainly attended by developpers
- not much about education and mass adoption
- a lot of quarrels and not much of an added value for the industry
