Raffle: 180Gh/s Avalon... backed by Kluge's Escrow, really low ticket price !

Ok, so first let me start by saying that Kluge and his Escrow service have agreed to back this and here's how it works.

This is going to be a raffle to win my 180Gh/s Avalon machine. It's going to consist of 50 tickets at just 0.03 BTC each, so if you wanted to say enter twice then you would buy 2 "tickets" at the total cost of 0.06 BTC. So with just one entrance fee from you at just 0.03 BTC you have the chance for an amount that's a lil north or south depending on current pricing of a $20 investment to win a $1k+ machine.

Anyway more to the mechanics, basically how this will work is this...

Assuming you want one ticket at 0.03, you would send your funds to an Escrow address provided by Kluge to which I have a master control list of (addresses already provided to me by Kluge). Upon your completed payment you would be entered in to the list below which I will do a mockup of. Once all tickets have been sold I will use a random number generator to choose the winner, I'll get to how that works in a minute after the mockup.

Ok, so above you see the mockup of how the list will work. So upon all 50 tickets being sold I will use a random number generator that will choose a number between 1 & 50. So if say 6 comes up, then the good Doc would be our winner since 6 was one of his numbers.

Now some of you may also be asking, well, what happens if this doesn't pan out or you (me) decide to back out because the machine broke or something. Well the answer to that is very simple, you would all be refunded and Kluge would still be compensated by me for his time in handling all this which includes refunds if applicable.

So ya, that's pretty much it and if any of you have any questions I invite you to please ask them here and I will respond inside of 12-24hrs.

Lastly, if you want to keep the TX id's private that's fine but I will still need it to keep locally here on my desktop. If you want to keep your username / identity private, that's a different matter. That can still be done it would just mean keeping a separate list in my inbox that I would share with Kluge so we both always have the same accurate info. You would just show up in the main list here as "Protected". Upon the winner being chosen though, I will need your full name, address and telephone to coordinate shipping but that will all be handled via PM.

Oh and before I forget, upon a winner being chosen, you will have 72hrs to get back to me after I contact you about winning. Should you not reply after the 72hr mark. Your entrance fee will be considered forfeited and I will go back to the random number generator to choose a new winner. So only bid / buy a ticket if you accept those terms.

Two problems here:

You won't find 50 mugs stupid enough to go through with this so what happens if you only get 10. How long will it be till they get their Bitcoins back.

You say you are going to use a random number generator, that isn't good enough because your mate could be one of the participants and you could rig it for him to win. Why not use the blockchain to generate your random number?

It wont close before 30 - 35 tickets are sold. At least I'm using Escrow and not coming in as a newb trying to run a raffle. FWIW, you wouldn't say it was stupid if say theymos was running it... but then again you might so who knows.

Also, how is it stupid that I'm running a raffle with tickets at 0.2 ? It's a more than fair ticket price, even kluge agreed with that... not like I'm asking 0.5 BTC a ticket which would be nucking futs.

Well the expected cost is 0.2*50 = 10BTC and I can buy a brand new 200GH/s miner for about 1.8BTC so the maths doesn't add up.

Simply use the block hash of the block in which the last participants transaction is contained. Take this hash and pass it through a modulo 50 function and add 1. This will give a random value between 1 and 50.

Well, as I said in the original post, I know it adds up to a lot and some may bark at that but it's about what I need for a project.

The matter of fact is that it still comes down to this...

With just one ticket purchase at 0.2, anyone has a chance to win a machine that hashes solidly at a constant if not better 180Gh/s that's currently valued around / slightly north of two grand and with BTC prices slightly dropping. Depending on where prices are at the time of someones bid it's will cost them 0.2 BTC obviously but in real world value, what, $80 - $120 ?

So again, it still works out to a fair deal... I suppose after some time if nothing pans out I may drop the ticket price some but if I do then it would hold steady at not ending before all 50 tickets have been purchased.

As for the hash thing, the modulo thing is geek speak to me but I'll definitely check it out and more than likely use it as a fair means of choosing the winner. FWIW though, say we get to 35 tickets and I decide to call the raffle winner at that time, what would one do to draw a number between 1 and 35 since what you pointed out before would draw a number between 1 & 50 ?

Ok, so the value adds up and yes I sort of went over that in the original post, but even at 0.2 at current BTC value. Thats an entrance fee of about $120 to win a machine with great value.

Times like this I wish I made it self moderated, if you don't see the value of a $60 ticket to win an item worth two grand let alone keep your lude comments to yourself then go see a shrink.

As for the hashing figure, I'm being real about it and not trying to blow smoke up your ass. Just about every machine on the market that's around the 200Gh/s mark is advertised as such with a +/- 10%.

I just chose not to title it that way !

Edit: I even lowered the ticket price to 0.085 BTC so it works out to a lil north of $50 per ticket, either way you still can't really argue with that price and the possibility to win a $2k machine with just one ticket at a cost of just over $50 which depending on ones setup is mined in about 3-5 days if not waaaay sooner like someone who might have like 1Th/s or something.
