gonna try a thing here:

so far it's like a ... summary of the logs http://log1.bitcoin-assets.com/

warning about self-moderated threads: they most often contain scams, and the thread-runner deletes any bad feedback

my idea here is not to sell you anything, but to keep the amount of reading required to a minimum
so please do reply, give bad feedback, suggestions, tips and edits, whatever. i'm bound to get lots wrong
i may or may not incorporate them and then delete unwanted posts
if you'd like to discuss the issues raised, i'm probably too new to understand them much myself, so maybe make a thread and link us here?

caveat: unless in italics, the views expressed here aren't mine. i am not affiliated

this is no substitute for reading the full logs and associated links and blogs when it comes to bitcoin education; it may be like a pre-school for bitcoin

correlation does not equal causation

misuse of statistics often distracts from discussions

united states government's claims to be impartial in israeli elections are false

usg bought off votes with unprecedented financial incentives -
bitcoin and pgp holders not affected

sql and databases - discussion

do not flood irc channels with text: use pastebin

dachsund/pitbull mix is cute but scary, or hubristic

learn to search: http://s.b-a.link/  - search function needs more work

the woes of alternative cryptocurrencies

usa is a tar pit the likes of which cannot be imagined by folks unfamiliar with the subject. those without money - cannot afford to make even basic preparations to flee; those with some - e.g., with a profession - know full well that they are not needed or wanted outside of the usg sphere of influence; those with serious money - understand (or sometimes don't) that their 'wealth' is really a creature of usg, and really lives in the treasury all along

"Caldwell was being interviewed as a part of the annual State of the Net Conference in Washington, DC. One minute, she was vilifying encryption; the next, she was sending a message to the country’s citizens and companies that they need to be “more conscious of cybersecurity.” “They need to be assuming they are vulnerable, assuming their data can be taken,” she said"

http://qntra.net/2015/01/barret-brown-the-myth-of-plea-leniency/

in American popular culture there is a carefully groomed myth through all kinds of fictitious media that in criminal proceedings a plea always results in some form of mercy from the courts

The rise of psychiatry parallels the rise of poverty in industrialized societies. The reason you see psychiatry in the U.S. but not in the Sudan isn't because there's no money for it in the Sudan, but because there is not enough money in the US to make some people feel comparatively like they're not in the Sudan. Hence Zoloft.

- The constant openness of this channel, and everyone on it, freightens[sic?] me slightly.
- so it should. we are the eaters of worlds.

poker - blog posts

refining bitcoin 0.5.3.1 for a cheap node - oomkills, orphans, it isn't a memory leak in the traditional sense

in a normal society, the threat is a fundamental tool to hierarchy building. the socialist state does not want a normally functioning society, but instead this stellar configuration where the state is at the center, and every citizen linked to it to the detriment of all else.
the freedom to threaten is not merely my fundamental, unassailable sovereign property, but moreover essential for the construction of effectual instruments to squash the socialists and their golums.

we're upstream. enemy wants to kill bitpay, it can start a forkwar with me. enemy wants to convince people "bitcoin sucks", it can "create plausible scenes"
very easy to squish a cockroach

I am curious, Do female suicide bombers have to be escorted by a male relative?

Diablo 2, and D1

scams - cannot differentiate between fraudulent intent and incompetence

smartphones dumb down the masses, playing with OsmocomBB foss baseband firmware

some teasing re overengineering  - somehow i suspect that if you had to design say a heron, it'd look a lot less like nature's variant and a lot more like an aircraft carrier

http://thelastpsychiatrist.com/2014/05/cyberbll.html - in retrospect this is the best discussion of this ever-returning zombie of "cyberbullying" i ever read:

"...single suggested solution to cyberharassment is to reframe a criminal problem into a civil rights issue using a logic so preposterously adolescent that if you laid this on your Dad when you were 16 he'd backhand slap you right out of the glee club: "it discourages women from writing and earning a living online." Earning a living? From who, Gawker? Most of the women writing on the internet are writing for someone else who pays them next to nothing. None of them control the capital, none of them get paid 1/1000 of what they bring in for the media company. You know what they do get? They get to be valued by work, and in gratitude they are going to the front lines to fight for the media company's right to pay them less."
the mirror-image infantilized 20something bois are idem fighting for paul graham's right to pay them nothing while turning them into a strange sort of pulp fiction's gimp
the funniest thing in all of this isn't exactly the horde of children who don't understand how the fuck they were tricked exactly. the funniest thing is the plethora of articles about how "apple could buy russia"
this, they call progress.

- i can't believe that people want to fuck around with sidechains and altcoins when there's interesting work to be done in improving how the satoshi codebase handles block downloads
- the problem is that people are insulated from reality (least it hurts their feelings) and so they are also insulated from everything interesting, and in the end their own life.
- not only sloth, but avarice, is involved. nobody gets rich from honestly fixing satoshi's bugs. sc4mz0r1ng? promises riches, at least to the foolish

- this "orphans" routine though, i must say i love it. 'tis another dagger in my belt.

- cribbed almost wholesale from evil bitcoind

linus is rich, though, in that ~he can do what he pleases~. so is taleb. so is everyone that DIDN'T join the system. the only poor people are the "rich people" making 500k to 5mn a year to pay for their mortgage and college loans. cf. Modern Chumpatronic Engineering

orphan blocks and orphaned chains

snipping getdata and implementing as a rolling window

for non-usa folks: the 'college racket' does not consist merely of tuition and housing that go up ~10%/yr., but also miscellaneous vampirisms like textbooks that stay almost exactly the same but for the exercise set orderings, at 100-400 usd a pop, moving target every semester

perils of working for vc-backed blockchain.info at all and whether to negotiate for options or high salary at hiring

assurance contracts are coulda shoulda woulda-type dumb

'Every nationalist is haunted by the belief that the past can be altered. He spends part of his time in a fantasy world in which things happen as they should in which, for example, the Spanish Armada was a success or the Russian Revolution was crushed in 1918 and he will transfer fragments of this world to the history books whenever possible. Much of the propagandist writing of our time amounts to plain forgery. Material facts are suppressed, dates altered, quotations removed from their context and doctored so as to change their meaning. Events which it is felt ought not to have happened are left unmentioned and ultimately denied.' (orwell/nationalism)

just as nationalism was the hands-down, no question asked, no doubt possible dominant party and cultural force of the 1930s and was anihilated by 1960. completely gone by 1990. now the socialists are doing the same thing... so what, anihilated by 2020, completely gone by 2050, hopefully we'll be smarter than to do it over.

to anyone not quite seeing the world for what it is : yes we are at war, and yes the year is about 1944, and yes the fucking nazis are running the fucking concentration camps and invaded russia and so on and so forth. you had no idea about it, but similarly you had no idea about it in 1944. the only reason this is being an issue is because the introduction of the bitcoin tank/bomber/submarine is massively turning the tide, and suddenly all sorts of disparate and previously doomed forces are now converging. so no, when i'm talking about hanging each and every us bureaucrat, through a war crimes court, within our lifetime i am not being in any sense and to any degree metaphorical.
