BTW, I'm total newbie on Ethereum privacy/anonymity and the following statement may be utterly clueless, but some years ago I read somewhere that your IP could be linked to some ETH transactions. Is this true? because some of you are talking about KYC like this IP idea wasn't even on the table.
I can't determine whether it is correct on the underlying technicalities level but I think it is still likely so. On another hand, in the application layer in where users interact with dApps or use a light client like Metamask, I believe any IP can be traced to any eth transaction. Also, if you are using Etherscan, it will also leaks your IP into a specific transaction. There's a lot of multi-variate things to deanonymize a transaction, especially because Ethereum isn't built with its privacy in mind and there are a ton of third-party dApps, expect that Eth transaction can easily be traceable.

This makes a lot of sense to me. In fact, I think that when I read about it years ago, the author was talking about Etherscan. In my case, my ETH hodlings are totally legal so I haven't bothered about this until now, but this thread has aroused my curiosity again.

When we talk about cryptos the majority of the people still think that you're completely anonymous when you do your transactions, this is only partially true, because transactions are anonymous but traceable too, and even an unskilled ""hacker"" could track you down and expose your identity.

So, having said that, does anybody know how to transfer ETH anonymously?...maybe someone could suggest a program, platform that could allow that?
tornado.cash has already been mentioned, but this service has a limit on certain amounts of 0.1 /1/10/100 ETH, which is not always convenient.
I recommend the handy mixer. I'm not ready to talk about maximum security, but this service helps to hide your payments from observers.

^ This is good advice and I used this before the two tumblers or ETH mixers. Even Tornado cash is good enough either I don't have a problem with both of these mixers if you really want to care about your privacy. Eth-mixer.com has also a thread here but they are an inactive long time ago. Here is the thread, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2930843.0.
However, we can use a decentralized platform for ETH transactions, as long as the ETH address is not linked to your personal identity you can still hide your identity.

Tonardo cash was used by IDO scammers in moving investors funds via the ethereum network to avoid been traced. I doubt good guys really need all that, they can just use privacy coin to be anonymous.
Please, let's drop this narrative on mixers. How do you propose these good guys try to convert their existing Ethereum to privacy coins such as Monero? I've encountered some anonymous/private P2P platforms that helps you hop from one blockchain to another but using mixers is probably still the most convenient way.

So let’s look at this way: if you’re making use of non-custodial wallet and you received your cryptocurrency through a peer-to-peer trading, and when you want to sell it, you also sold it through peer-to-peer exchange, then you’re likely going to stay anonymous.

Even though your address will be visible on the blockchain and the amount of transactions being done, no one would actually know your identity. I think it’s only possible to get your true identity when you’re registered on a centralized exchange where you have done a KYC, that way you will be traced to the exchange and your identity exposed. And I believe that there are Ethereum mixers that can help to hide your identity while using ETH.

Looks easy when you try using transaction qith privacy or anonymous like using metamask or trustwallet, when sending fund there not one know with your identity and where you come from, I think is the best way how criminal cases washing their money without detected by any one else, when transaction without use exchange market and their identity keep safety.

Actually this goes back to each individual, I think, because as far as I know it also depends on the market.
if you make or transact through an exchange that has KYC then it is not anonymity, different if there is no kyc verification then you are still one of the anonymizers that will not be detected
I believe it is more specific to wallet-to-wallet transactions. not from an exchange like you mean. Indeed, there is a possibility that our data will be known by hackers, but the system on the exchange platform where we usually trade, I think, is safe enough. or even very safe.
if you want to do a completely anonymous transaction, I guess can use it with 3rd party like a platform mixer. it will put you on anonymity. of course it will provide a greater fee than the usual transaction.
I don't want to say it's very safe when I'm here because indeed this is the most unsafe place I know Cheesy
On the other hand, talking about fees, I really won't discuss this too much because I just want confidentiality to remain with me according to what Satoshi applies, namely anonymity and don't need to know each other to transact here, this is what makes me like this

The age of anonymous transfers in crypto would soon be over .. watch this space and you would know the different world governments, especially the US are tracking the supposedly anonymous users. This has a double edged sword on the future of crypto and blockchain

I think you can manage to minimize your tracks with Ethereum transactions if you are careful every time you make one. But if you are doing things just as they are, simply sending and receiving from your main Ethereum wallet regardless of the transaction, you might have left a lot of footprints. So you either stay away from Ethereum and shift to Monero or other privacy coins or you would have to resort to the use of Ethereum mixers.
