Why do people always speak good about the dead?

Not surprising, people who attend to one's funeral are those who care enough and have good memories of one.
Besides of that, I believe that there is also the fact of death being the ultimate unknown and when people attends to a funeral they remind all of it will eventually happen to them as well.

I assume they feel empathy with the dead. That is my theory.
