Honestly, we can't blame the Casino or site's, in their ads you will hear them say gamble responsibly but deep down they get majority of their profits from those gamblers whom are addicted. We are held accountable for every of our actions, whether the casino should deliberate on safe gambling or not to their customers no one should be wild enough not to know when to quit, especially in this unfavorable economy where every penny is worth.

There was a recent case in Australia where a man lost his entire life savings of $400,000+ in a 48 hour gambling spree.

The gambler lost $12,000 in a single bet and then tried to chase that initial amount but ended up losing his life savings.

I am a seasoned and experienced gambler and my one piece of advice to people is to only bet what you can afford to lose otherwise you are setting yourself up for failure.

I wish voices can be lend for people to listen and change their mindset about gambling but they wouldn't and that's the problem we face in general in gambling. Why even use your life saving to gamble away $400k like you have another backup? Even if you do have one, losing $400k isn't something worth it to ever try in gambling. Actually you could really be able to feel it out on the moment that you would really be that playing gambling then greed do kicks in, it is really just that a certain individual would really be just that neglecting out

This what we face when we don't apply cautiousness when gambling, it is almost in all gambler whenever they are gambling and see their account balance being emptied it won't even occur to them that is time to stop and exit from gambling site. It will only be down on them when they finally swiped their bank account zero level especially when they have access to their entire life savings it will easily lead to misfortune and setback. Like I always says they should plan their amount to used for gambling it could be 1-5 percent of their weekly/monthly income with this when that amount is exhausted then they don't have alter any other further money from their personal accounts to fund their gambling site, I know lot of us here are hard time gamblers who are trying all means to scale up their earning by gambling consistently.

It is bad advice, no one should use any percentage associated with their main income to bet, it is 0%, the best way to get started in the world of betting is to get funds that you have no problem losing, so that advice It seems extremely stupid to me, I'm sorry, but someone who wants to find justification for betting thinks that way.

I think this is situational. It is a piece of good advice if the person's income is way more than his needs like there is a 10% extra money after savings and budget allocation.  This will be a piece of bad advice if the income of the person isn't sufficient for his monthly expenses. So allocating a certain percentage of the income is not totally a bad advice, how good or how bad it is depends on the ratio of income and expenses.  After all, where can a person find his regular source of funds aside from his regular income?

Allocating a percentage of his free funds from his income, assuming that the person has more than enough funds, is a good move towards gambling moderation.  It is dependent on the amount the gambler is able to lose without endangering his funds for his daily needs.  This is also considered an act of responsible gambling.

What really bad is chasing losses and getting greedy when the losses are recovered just like what happened in the case @OP stated.
