I've seen people use gambling as their means to escape problems but it never ended well for them. Now, most of them are buried in debt and still stressed out because of their bad relationship with their families. I think using gambling as an escape is just a bad decision. It can make things worst to the point that everyone might hate us for not absorbing the problem as men and it takes out the respect that we earned from the relatives and friends.
There are better ways to keep our mind busy in case we are in deep problems. Hobbies and sports is a good choice and it will somehow take our mind off our problems.
I believe it is necessary we establish there is a very important difference between using gambling as an "escape" from problems and using gambling as medium to "avoid" problems, escapism is about temporarily forgetting about anything in our daily life which could easily trigger or stress us out, for the sake of a good mental health. We all need to have a space and time not to think about work or responsibilities, but that does not mean we will abandon them all of a sudden.
Those people you talk about, who allowed gambling to displace responsibilities from their life are usually going through some stage of addiction and have failed to realize it yet.
I like to gaming for the sake of temporary escapism, but such escape is not supposed to last entire days or weeks just a couple of hours, before going back to work and being productive.
