Add information on historic changes of Forum Security Bounty and its rewards from initially in troy of ounce, converted to bitcoin; then in $ converted to Bitcoin since 2021.

Security Bounty

• Security bounties (announcement) on October 12, 2013 by theymos. Initially, all information is in that thread.

• Rewards changed from troy ounces of gold (XAU), converted to Bitcoin. Since 2021, it is $, converted to Bitcoin.

Thats a great amount of work done tranthidung, interesting reading what I have done so far.
There is a lot there which I wasnt aware of and I guess many more were not aware of.

IMO the two biggest changes or the changes which impacted the community the most for
better, worse or from the amount of discussion surrounding them were:

1.] The Merit System - big changes to the ranking system which still has people divided
and still generates a lot of discussion. There is generally a Love/Hate relationship with Merit.

2.] Mixer Ban - this was a massive announcement recently which stirred up a lot of discussion
on the removal of Mixer service adverts and the restriction of posting links to services etc.

and still generates a lot of discussion. There is generally a Love/Hate relationship with Merit.

Merit system changed the forum a lot, by its design and purpose, to help the forum better in quality. There are some changes in merit system since its kick-off too.

2.] Mixer Ban - this was a massive announcement recently which stirred up a lot of discussion
on the removal of Mixer service adverts and the restriction of posting links to services etc.

There is still grey area in the ban but if theymos sees it, he will ban anything that he considers as risk for the forum and himself because of existing or potential regulation in the USA. It's hard to say it is right or wrong but with his position, I understand why he decided to do that even in many years, theymos supports freedom.

As fast as all these were implemented, several months ago, it's already beginning to seem like we've gone through several years without them...maybe for the fact that i have read enough of the stories over and over again and ^{[nothing else has been made to revoke the situation]}

It's hard to say it is right or wrong but with his position, I understand why he decided to do that even in many years, theymos supports freedom.

Theymos doesn't have any potential to override the forum privately - out of the government's spectacle.. So if we all still wanna wake up and find our way back in here, ehhh, he needs to work by the rules he's been given..

It's nearly one year and the thread is like a dead one, but it's time for bumping it.

I learned that signatures with marquee text was disabled in 2011 and it's time to update this thread with this small information.

I updated OP and put it in Miscellaneous.

I just disabled marquee board-wide. I don't see any use for it.

Update!

One update is on username change policy, I knew it for years but completely forgot adding it here, I am sorry about this missing.

Another update is about Epochtalk, which is a long time anticipated new forum software. In early 2025, two events made forum members twisted around, in January, a live-data demo sheds some hope that time for transition between SMF forum and Epochtalk forum softwares will be done soon, and we will have a new forum software to use after years of wating. Unfortunately in February, theymos announced a shock news, development on the Epochtalk forum software stopped.
