Don't you think the forum is much better now? I don't think theymos have enough time to think about all these things and make more changes to the current script. It has been modified hundreds of times, and most people are fine with it now. It's not like they didn't hear what the community suggested. We were hearing about the Epochtalk forum for a long time, which could have been the newer version of this forum.

theymos had many plans for it and spent a lot of money on it. Unfortunately, he had to stop because of the developers. I think that was just a waste of money. Let's be happy with the current system and move on. We will never be happy enough; we will always need more features.

unfortunately people will never be satisfied with anything, as long as there is no clear statement that no more changes should be applied many more suggestions on how to run the forum will always come up, it’s not either bad nor does it not make sense but to an extent, Bitcointalk is a free speech platform so all suggestions are carried as if the admin finds it interesting and accurate he will do something about it but now I think it’s time for us to give up a little bit on stressing him out with personal requests and suggestions.

I don't understand why people keep up trying to find ways to "improve" the forum, no offence to the OP, this isn't personal nor is it directed only to him, with so-called improvements? We currently have a merit system that has weed-out all time-wasters, posting gibberish or in bounty campaigns who would otherwise be Hero or Legendary now, with zero commitment. The current merit system has also discouraged account farming with the intent to sell. In the past, you could create numerous accounts, make a few posts from each one and eventually, you'd rank up. Merit is already a "prestige" system, those with higher scores are usually older, more respected and helpful members, without it, you wouldn't be able to distinguish it.

This is a good idea and i hope some may consider it, but as for me, i don't think its of a need to keep transcending form one rank to another, since the merit system does the justification on itself, when you rank up to a legendary member rank, then you continue to have merits by posting meaning thoughts, not that you decide to restart all over to earn a badge and continue in ranking, if many see this new idea come in place, they will always know their way out and many will as well be running after the newly introduced badge to earn after the legendary rank, but with the use of merit system, it has already created a long solution to these, bitcointalk is not by how far, but how well.

It takes a while to get to leggy even if you are exceptional in earning merits due to activity required so user should be able to get only handful of prestigious badges in one's lifetime which will make badges prestigious by itself.

Well, being a newbie often comes with some restrictions, not having to send PMs to ranked users, having a default posting time where, you don’t get to make several posts in minutes, not having to post pictures, no signature space, no avatar space  and more.

Would these be the case of those that are able to revert if this was possible?

If it is the case, a lot of people wouldn’t want to be a newbie no more and there is no being a newbie without these and that makes the idea not so ideal.

Exactly, if I remember correctly, when there were half a dozen mixers advertising on the forum, the campaign managers used to offer a special rate for users with more than 3000 merits. I think Royse was the manager who had such criteria in some of his campaigns. Still, there are campaign managers who hire people and pay special rates. For example, LM decided who was genuine and reputable, and he invited those people to join his signature campaign, and he paid them a special rate. I think a lot of you know about that. I am sure people like LoyceV would always get a better pay rate than most legendary members. He has most merits for a reason. So yep, Merit is already a prestige system.

I will add DT eligibility with feedback (positive) to determine a user's prestige too. At-least that's what I saw a lot of members are doing and done successfully to build their reputation. A lot of these reputations are fake and built up between members of the close circle.

I think you ought to try not writing like your posts are texts or that you're on some gaming forum, because when I saw 'cod' I immediately thought of the fish and didn't know what the hell you were talking about.  Doubtful I'm the only one who's an old, non-gaming curmudgeon.

As to your idea, meh.  That's my long answer, because even if I had a very strong opinion on going back to square one it doesn't really matter--Theymos is the one who'd have to approve it, and there have been so many other ideas in the past that he's turned a deaf ear to that it's not likely he'd even consider this one.  Not that anyone knows what he thinks, since he rarely telegraphs his thoughts to the community, but just from experience this doesn't sound like something he'd get behind.

Yeah well, I don't really care whether this gets implemented or not — I get an idea, I make a post, because why not? I really don't know worth of ideas I get, so I like to post 'em and read the discussions.

The prestige concept is definitely fresh and as a gamer, I get the logic behind it. If implemented, it'll Legendary members a new ladder to climb. But I think the big question is does Bitcointalk actually need another layer of ranking? Some people like the simplicity of the current system where Legendary is the peak and anything beyond that is just about personal contribution, not status.

If a prestige mode were ever considered, it should probably be optional so those who enjoy the gamification can opt in while those who prefer things as they are don’t feel forced into it. At the end, I doubt that Theymos will subscribe to this idea of yours.
