Though, more regulation could eventually lead to a decrease of volume and number of bettors, as people will have to go through a more extended process in order to deposit and risk money, not all bettors will be willing to go through it for the sake of fun. In general, people like to bet in a straight forward manner, with little limitations, that is why so many bookies and casinos do not ask for KYC documents when comes to signing up to their platforms but they ask for it when we try to get money out to our personal wallets.

Of course I think sports betting has more staying power than other sports because people can analyze sports betting with their knowledge and ensure their win there whereas all other casino games are played completely depending on luck which many like and many don't. Answer to your question is that you might as well ask that if sports here to stay. But it's not just about sports. It's about predicting outcomes of anything competitive, where result is easy to measure, so that result isn't a matter of opinion if someone deserved the win or not. There are some sports, where result is based on style and skill, and jury decides who wins. Imho these games will never be as popular as basic sports, where everyone can see the result.
