So for someone wanting to invest wisely, what do you recommend. Should they keep a Bitcoin only portfolio or should they diversify a little portion of funds for altcoins too...

Well your money you choice, let me help you do the math. Let's say Bitcoin can touch $1M in next 10year so your PNL will be 10x . While this investment is safer than any other investment you can take a nap while investing on bitcoin. Let's assume you picked some alts on the early stage, always choose fundamentally strong project with good team and backers You invested $1k there in Altcoin 10x is pretty common. Your project could heat $200M Mcap to $2B mcap in no time if there are strong enough.

Let's you alt hit the target within a year z now you can diversify that amount in other alts or bitcoin also. There's a risk on this, also high rewarding. So choose wisely if you wants to proceed or wants to keep safe side. Cause watching you portfolio getting in negative day by day, belive me this one is so much painful. Not everyone can hold .

From what we can see currently happening in the crypto market, gone are the days when we can say diversify your portfolio, but it's now very clear that holding Bitcoin still remains the best option for you, no altcoin can be trusted like Bitcoin seeing how they rug-pull, crash and go thin air, whereas some coins price are being manipulated by the dev's. I strongely recommend holding only Bitcoin, this way you will be at peace with your investment because Bitcoin is the only decentralized crypto out there very hard to manipulate its price.

For now I'm with Bitcoin and I tried to diversified my investment on gold. I'm slowly accumulating both assets because I think this two would bring good return in future.

That's a good plan, while many doesn't own gold yet here but I'm also thinking of getting there soon. I'm also trying to accumulate other assets more with real estate but that's a different plan.

But continue with this plan and this is a better diversification than going with altcoins.

Going with other alts never cross in my mind yet since I think all of them is so risky to hold for long term.

While it has crossed my mind but I have found it truly risky. If Bitcoin is quite the risky asset like they are, I'd go with them. But many still doesn't understand how securing it is to stick with Bitcoin.

I too was strong believer that we must diversify our crypto portfolio. This might be true in markets like equity where there are many good companies of same profile but in crypto I have learned the lesson that success is only in Bitcoin. There are people who try their luck by doing day trading but I have also figured out that we need to hold out Bitcoin for at least 4 years. People do invest in Alt coins but they are risky and don't show price increase like Bitcoin. The risk involved in Bitcoin is way less if investors are willing to invest for long term.

I think it depends on how long it has been for the person in the market. If it's someone who is a complete newbie and has no idea about altcoins or trading in general, they shouldn't get themselves into altcoins because altcoins need careful consideration due to their higher volatility.

So it's better for someone like this to only stick to buying and holding Bitcoin until they spend some time in the market, and learn everything, and then they can start adding more cryptocurrencies into their portfolio. Because this way, you will find time to understand the total life cycle of an altcoin, yeah most altcoins are short living so not rushing into them for long term plans may be not advanceable.

I don’t always encourage people to invest in altcoins because of the risk involved in it, if some people decide to invest in altcoins, they will end up investing in new projects which have no use case, some of them are owned by scammers. If you are investing, then it’s just better you invest in bitcoin, i know it’s good to diversify, but I do encourage people to have investment outside the crypto space.

If you are the type that wants to invest in altcoins, then it’s better you go for coins that have been in crypto space for some time, avoid new coins because if you invest in them, things might not really end well.

I believe you know that Bitcoin is the most secure cryptocurrency in a long term and also the most tested and trusted coin, if you are already accumulating Bitcoin i don't see need diversifying into Altcoins or shitcoins as they can pump and dump to a lower price but if you want to diversify you can only use 10% of your discretionary income to buy. There are other good asset you can diversify to the Real Eastate investment or gold.
Diversifying should be when you have accumulated more Bitcoin and hodl for long or you good with your portfolio or has reached your over accumulation point.

But if you invest like you are still learning the process, the risk of losing is still high. Your question is a subjective, and we have different allocations to everything since we all have different strategies, plans and targets. Some here prefer to go all-in on Bitcoin maybe because they're a maxi. Some here (like me) puts majority of their money on Bitcoin, but a portion of their money is being put into altcoins. Some here goes 50-50 on Bitcoin and altcoins, and so on, and so forth.

As somebody that's investing on both on Bitcoin and altcoins, I will just give 2 structures where you can just copy it or you can adjust based on your preferences.
1. 80% Bitcoin, 15% on higher market cap altcoins, 5% on mid market cap altcoins.
2. 85% Bitcoin, 15% on higher market cap altcoins.

Like what I said, it's up to you OP. You can invest on meme coins if you want as well, but I didn't add it because this allocation is a bit beginner-friendly, and it's a bit diversified. For me, I don't want to focus on Bitcoin only because altcoins are more volatile hence, more profit, but higher risk as well. I hope that you find your allocation percentage already OP. Good luck.

Most people on this forum probably have the greatest hope for Bitcoin, as we see this asset as being far more promising and possessing a different level of strength than other assets. In my opinion, no other asset is as good as Bitcoin so far.
However, some people may try to approach coins like ETH or BNB as a diversification measure, but each individual should have a clearer plan regarding their involvement with such concepts, as most people are simply trying to trade, not invest long-term.

For long-term investment, I tend to favor Bitcoin, as there are many reasons that might make it a much better choice than other coins.

As much as Bitcoin will always be the majority of my coins, nothing will stop me from adding a few other top cryptos to it.

Those who did it 3 years ago are in immense wealth today, and the largest returns come from other coins. That's the beauty of diversification.

You can add other cryptocurrencies to your portfolio from top coins to non top coins and even shit coins but the biggest part of your portfolio needs to be in bitcoin, not in altcoins. Altcoins and shitcoins can make people greed but they are weak, even scam so you will have high chance of losing money if most of your portfolio is in altcoins.

Top coins can not save your portfolios as any top coins failed or died. You can explore market history snapshots and see how top coins were weak.

That really shows that people have different opinion on this. Some may like diversification and other like to focus on Bitcoin since they are fine to became  a maximalist. There's nothing wrong with that choices as long as they know what they are doing. Also we cannot deny that lots of its holders earn good profit on Bitcoin. So same goes with other alts if you think this is profitable.

The problem from diversification is choosing the alts you are going to invest since there are lots of shitcoins in altcoin market and one wrong pick can possible destroy their portfolio so if they are going to diversify with other alts they should choose the top and not those meme coin scams.
