This is a Roach Motel. You can put bitcoins in, but can't get them out.

if you consider all the trouble you have to go through- the risks to your money, the fees, the volatility, and the authorities watching your every move... is it worth it?

For a low balance tipping wallet yes, for all else...no.  This will allow the general public to wade into bitcoin waters.

I think this is pretty nice from Facebook.
They will make bitcoin more mainstream by doing this.
Think of all that facebook people who maybe never heard of bitcoin or are gonna try it now because of Facebook.
Remember they have so much users, really good news I would say.

There's no affiliation with Facebook whatsoever as far as I know. Just built on top of FB platform?

I'm interested in their security and fee's.

i.e would it be cheaper for me just to send my mates BTC via Electrum?

Would definitely need to find out more regarding privacy and insurance against hacks if was to load account up with xBTC.

that's what I thought, is it a genuine bitcoin app? that can be downloaded in the facebook browser, is this what all the facebook

money transfer license's where all about is my initial reaction, they pretended to make it sound like a money transfer service so

they could buy in on bitcoin before the price increased substantially, that's insider trading, deceitful at least, I guess now

we are supposed to believe this company is in no way associated with facebook

is anyone using the wallet yet? is it a facebook type app?

Not sure this is a fantastic idea.  Might be okay if they're careful about security, but facebook isn't without issues of its own.  I often see people get "click-jacked" on facebook, where they click on something and it automatically creates a post on their wall liking/sharing it without them noticing.  Next it'll be "bit-jacked" where they click on something and it deducts a few bits from their wallet.  So combined with the usual post about third party services controlling the private keys, this also adds a nice public arena for everyone to watch while people's wallets get hacked and then it spreads around social media like wildfire with the notion that Bitcoin isn't safe to use because some third party provider did a bad job with security.

Might be an opportunity, but it's fraught with potential pitfalls.

This is a very real threat ("bit jacking"). It's also worth noting that most people that use FB don't know even the basics about Internet security and won't know what's happening. All they will know is that they had money and then didn't have it, and it can create a very negative view for Bitcoin. Considering how fast news spreads on FB, that could be a huge issue.

Its seems to be unassociated with FB yet they are using the Facebook Header in the application

even if they have asked for permission to share your friends list they would have to have an agreement with

facebook to already do so, which means that their is an affiliation of some sorts, otherwise they are

just hacking your friends list plain and simple without your authority and without any agreed to terms and conditions

those on the website are not a sufficient place for terms and conditions and must be embedded within

the program installation phase, also any connection with facebook would need to be expressly

implied from the onset or its acting in a fraudulent way.

This is some amateur stuff coming from San Fransisco to say the least, its almost a compliment  Cheesy

LOL another privacy policy is inside the dashboard once they have already accessed your friends list ,

two privacy policies both in the wrong position maybe they need to add a third one on their

facebook page, again it would be in the wrong place!

Buckle UP buttercup?
It appears your thread title is about a book?

I'm glad to see a new Facebook app for Bitcoin. Good news is coming so often lately, it's hard to remember all the current developments.
The security concerns are not that vital since this is for small amounts and first time gifts.
It is vital to somehow teach new people about security even if they start with convenient little apps.
